When it comes to speculating the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I think we’re all champing at the bit to know when the X-Men and Fantastic Four will be integrated into the multi-billion dollar film franchise. Though those teams achieved much financial success over at Fox (okay, it was pretty much only the X-Men), both have been adored by the geek community for decades. That said, seeing them interacting with the likes of Thor or Black Panther on the big screen would be pretty cool.
Well, if the latest chatter is to be believed, we’ll be forced to wait even longer than we’d surmised. As a realist, I didn’t think any of these characters would be folded into the MCU immediately following Disney’s acquisition of Fox, but I can’t be alone in hoping it all goes down before flying cars are prevalent in our society.
As usual, we’ll tell you to take this with a grain of salt because the rumor originated via a 4chan leak – that’s now deleted – and resurfaced on Reddit, only to be compiled with other stuff by That Hashtag Show. Still, it’s posted alongside a variety of news bits we’ve seen in numerous places, so that’s why credence is being given.
According to the report, the X-Men and Fantastic Four may not be introduced into the MCU until Phase Five. If so, then I’m hoping we get to the next major marker before long because I want my mutants. Then again, that could just mean a five-year break from the silver screen for them, and that’s something the general public may need after the critical and financial flop that was Dark Phoenix.
If we’re to think this through logically, then that timespan affords Marvel Studios ample time to pump out Black Widow, The Eternals, Shang-Chi, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, Doctor Strange 2 and presumably Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After that, one would assume they’ll let loose the First Family and such.
Tell us, are you fine with waiting considerably longer for new iterations of the X-Men and Fantastic Four? Or do you want them as soon as possible? Sound off in the usual place below!
