Michael B. Jordan Breaks The Silence On Chadwick Boseman’s Death With Powerful Tribute

Almost immediately after Chadwick Boseman tragically passed away last weekend after a private, four-year battle with colon cancer, beautiful tributes began pouring out onto the web. From those who knew him well – like Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Kevin Feige, Brie Larson and Ryan Coogler – to those who never worked with him directly but had much respect and admiration for the man – like Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds – everyone had heartfelt words to share about the beloved actor.

And now, Boseman’s Black Panther co-star Michael B. Jordan, who played Erik Killmonger in the film, has taken to Instagram to share a touching and powerful tribute of his own. Along with some photos of the two of them (which you can see in the gallery down below), Jordan also offered up some kind and emotional words about his dear friend, talking about how much he impacted his life and the legacy he leaves behind.

Here’s his post in full:

I’ve been trying to find the words, but nothing comes close to how I feel. I’ve been reflecting on every moment, every conversation, every laugh, every disagreement, every hug…everything.

I wish we had more time.

One of the last times we spoke, you said we were forever linked , and now the truth of that means more to me than ever. Since nearly the beginning of my career, starting with All My Children when I was 16 years old you paved the way for me. You showed me how to be better, honor purpose, and create legacy. And whether you’ve known it or not…I’ve been watching, learning and constantly motivated by your greatness.

I wish we had more time.

Everything you’ve given the world … the legends and heroes that you’ve shown us we are … will live on forever. But the thing that hurts the most is that I now understand how much of a legend and hero YOU are. Through it all, you never lost sight of what you loved most. You cared about your family , your friends, your craft, your spirit. You cared about the kids, the community, our culture and humanity. You cared about me. You are my big brother, but I never fully got a chance to tell you, or to truly give you your flowers while you were here.

I wish we had more time.

I’m more aware now than ever that time is short with people we love and admire. I’m gonna miss your honesty, your generosity, your sense of humor, and incredible gifts. I’ll miss the gift of sharing space with you in scenes. I’m dedicating the rest of my days to live the way you did. With grace, courage, and no regrets. “Is this your king!?” Yes . he . is! Of course, Jordan’s message echoes what many who knew Boseman well have said and as more and more of these tributes surface, it’s becoming abundantly clear that the actor was very respected and admired by many in the industry, viewed as a role model who inspired tons of people around the world. And the impact of his loss will be felt for a long time to come.

Fans can at least take comfort in the fact that they have a couple more performances from the Black Panther star to look forward to, with the actor said to have completed his roles in Marvel’s animated Disney Plus series What If…? as well as Netflix’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom before his death.

RIP Chadwick Boseman, you will be missed.

Petition To Replace Confederate Statue With Chadwick Boseman Hits 15K Signatures

The world is still in shock over the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman, who passed away at the age of 43 after a private battle with colon cancer. The news came as such a surprise as the actor kept his illness under wraps for years, choosing not to share it with the public and continuing to work on various projects.

Not only did he keep on working, but he brought us one of the best performances of his career and also led one of the most successful and impactful blockbusters of the 21st Century. And this was all while fighting the disease that he would ultimately die of, which speaks volumes about the man’s drive, determination and impressive work ethic.

And now, as the tributes continue to pour in, a petition has sprung up that calls for a monument to be built in his honor. But not just any monument. Instead, it’d be to replace a confederate statue in Anderson, South Carolina.

As the petition explains:

In addition to his illustrious film career, Mr. Boseman made it a mission to give back to his community. Not only with his appearances at his alma mater Howard University but financially as well. Upon the release of his film Black Panther, Mr. Boseman took it upon himself to rent out a theatre in his home town of Anderson, South Carolina to show the film for free. So that young boys and girls could be inspired by the film without the financial barrier. Mr. Boseman is without question an American treasure and his accolades go on and on. It is only fitting that his work is honored in the same place that birthed him.

Earlier this year efforts were made by local residents to remove a Confederate monument located in the town square of downtown Anderson. Unfortunately, this effort gained no traction due to current South Carolina law. It is currently illegal to remove or alter monuments dedicated to confederate war efforts in the state of South Carolina (SECTION 10-1-165). This has made any effort to remove the statue impossible.

Many will agree that Mr. Boseman is without question worthy of such a monument in his home town, but I would like to go a step further. I believe that Mr.Boseman is worthy of the spot that is currently occupied in the town square.

The full thing goes even more in-depth on Anderson and the statue in question, and you can check it out via the link below. But as of now, it’s sitting at about 15,000 signatures and growing pretty rapidly, with tons of people showing their support for the plea.

Of course, whether or not Anderson, South Carolina will do anything here remains to be seen. They may not be able to take down the current statue, but they can still build some sort of monument to Chadwick somewhere in the city, if they so choose. But as we’ve seen countless times already, even the most popular petitions can fail to result in any sort of change, so who knows what’ll happen?

DC Reveals Plans For Batman Day 2020

Always a good opportunity to recognize the many sides of the Dark Knight’s legacy, this year’s Batman Day will be taking place on September 19th. In previous years, we’ve had the Bat-Signal lighting up various cities, as well as multiple tie-ins and other special promotions. For 2020, DC have opted for an all-virtual celebration, due to COVID-19, but have plenty of things planned for those wanting to take part via apps and other digital media.

First up, Waze are running a theme for “Batman and the Riddler” that includes associated Spotify playlists, with the special feature available from August 31st to October 31st. Directions will be given by Kevin Conroy, or through Wally Wingert’s voice as the Riddler, while there’ll also be Batmobile icons and Bat-moods (we’d imagine these’ll lean towards the brooding side).

In addition, BatmanDay.com will feature extensive interactive choices, including DIY tips to create a cape and cowl, with fans also able to join a Virtual 5k/10k run or walk that features branded goods to use after registration. Other highlights include fresh content and gifts for Injustice 2 Mobile and DC Legends, form change trinkets for DC Universe Online, social media mysteries, an as-yet-revealed promotion on the DC UNIVERSE digital subscription service, and localized events around the world.

As has become something of a tradition for Batman Day, DC are also making a free digital comic available, in this case the first chapters of Sean Murphy’s Batman: Curse of the White Knight and Batman Tales: Once Upon a Crime, as well as Batman: The Adventures Continue #1. Furthermore, HBO Max are hosting a Batman takeover from September 18th-19th, while there’ll be plenty of linked material from brands like LEGO, Funko and SpinMaster, discounted comics and graphic novels on apps.
