‘American Psycho’ author names his single biggest issue with modern horror

‘American Psycho’ author names his single biggest issue with modern horror

Bret Easton Ellis of American Psycho fame has come in with his two cents on what consistently goes wrong with modern horror, and it’s hard to disagree with the acclaimed author.

Ellis wrote American Psycho as more of a parody and satire of masculinity, capitalism, and consumerism, but has obvious horror undertones thanks to its main character Patrick Bateman is a sociopathic serial killer who may or may not be imagining everything happening around him.

‘Star Wars’ fans still foolishly trying to find an explanation for sequel trilogy plot holes

Perplexed Star Wars fans are trying to work out the rationale behind some of the glaring inconsistencies in the plot of the sequel trilogy films.

Redditor Morlaak took to the r/StarWars subreddit to express their frustration in a post that begged the question, “Is it ever explained how The First Order, stranded in a barely inhabited and underdeveloped region of space managed to build superweapons several times more powerful than the Death Stars AND a fleet large enough not to be crushed by the New Republic remnant?”

The year’s most controversial blockbuster finally gets streaming date confirmed

2022 saw a resurgence in non-franchise films with new, original-ish films being some of the most spoken about, perhaps none more so than Olivia Wilde’s rollercoaster release which has been embroiled in some of the most bizarre drama of recent cinema history.

Don’t Worry Darling promised audiences an adventure into a dark underbelly beneath an apparent paradise, but instead ended up (ironically) playing host to behind-the-scenes drama of a dark underbelly in Hollywood relationships. Now, the drama-laden film is set for a streaming debut, so get your salads ready.

Fans realize yet again that Obi-Wan Kenobi is the most tragic character in all of ‘Star Wars’

Fans realize yet again that Obi-Wan Kenobi is the most tragic character in all of ‘Star Wars’

Forget about Anakin Skywalker, his fall to the dark side, and his ultimate redemption in Return of the Jedi. Star Wars fans can unanimously agree that the most heartbreakingly tragic character in all of the galaxy far, far away and its extensive history is none other than Obi-Wan Kenobi, the man who lost everything but his faith.

We’re talking about a man who forsook his love out of duty, lost his mentor and father figure, had to witness the love of his life die in front of his eyes because of the same person who killed that mentor, and to top it all off, Obi-Wan watched as what he had fought to preserve for decades went up in flames, with the Jedi all but destroyed and his padawan, friend, and brother lost to the shadow.

Netflix’s breathtaking new war epic torpedoes the Top 10 in 89 countries

The spookiest day on the calendar may be right around the corner, but Netflix subscribers have been checking out an original movie that’s haunting for an entirely different set of reasons, with the latest version of All Quiet on the Western Front bombarding the platform’s most-watched rankings.

Per FlixPatrol, Edward Berger’s worthy successor to the classic 1930 adaptation of the novel of the same name has become a Top 10 smash hit in a colossal 89 countries around the world. It may not have been able to dislodge serial killer thriller The Good Nurse at the summit of the global charts, but it’s already managed to hit number one in 15 countries – so there’s a very high chance it’ll be peering down on the competition by this time tomorrow.

Horror fans wonder when an all-time classic stopped being scary

Horror fans wonder when an all-time classic stopped being scary

Are horror movies of yesterday as scary as they are today? Fans are chiming in. To answer that question, there are many factors from what films were allowed to do years ago compared to what they are capable of doing now.

This conversation started with BatimadosAnos60 on Reddit asking a simple question after watching The Exorcist for the second time. Widely regarded as the scariest movie ever made, is the film outdated or has it stood the test of time? It comes down to the viewer, but there were some very good points from a wide range of horror fans.

Marvel Studios producer offers a huge update on the future of the Eternals

We may have gotten a flash of text reading “Eternals will return” after that tense post-credits scene with Kit Harington, a magic sword, and Mahershala Ali’s voice, but that was before the film managed to nab the unsavory distinction of being the worst-reviewed film to ever come out of Marvel Studios, with the moldy cherry on top being that it’s the only film to be certified “Rotten” by critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Having hit such a low with Eternals, some were skeptical as to whether this would be the end of the line for Sersi and company, especially Druig actor Barry Keoghan, who has on multiple occasions been quite vocal over the lack of news surrounding the MCU’s most obscure team.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ director confronts speculation he’s tackling ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

The fifth and sixth assemblies of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are in development and on the way, but Avengers: The Kang Dynasty already has a significant advantage over Secret Wars, the latter of which was recently delayed by six months.

The former has Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton poised to wield the megaphone, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania scribe Jeff Loveness on screenwriting duties. The latter has Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness veteran Michael Waldron furiously hammering the script into shape as we speak, but the top job remains vacant.

Latest Sci-Fi News: ‘Avatar 2’ will be even longer than we thought possible as a ‘Star Wars’ legend gets uncancelled

We’re taking a look at sci-fi cinema’s past, present, and future today, as we cast our minds back to a cult favorite flick from 30 years ago and gaze ahead to the incoming arrival of what’s got to be the most anticipated science fiction sequel of 2022. Yes, fans have been waiting for Avatar: The Way of Water for a full 13 years now, but remarkably, the James Cameron directorial effort might just end up rivaling that long wait with its mammoth runtime…

Avatar: The Way of Water isn’t even out yet, but it’s already bigger than Avengers: Endgame

With Avatar 2 finally entering cinemas this December, rumors about the film’s runtime have started to hit the internet. And, whether or not it manages to earn as much money as Marvel’s Infinity Saga finale, it might just be bigger than Avengers: Endgame in another way. According to current intel, The Way of Water will have a bladder-busting runtime of 3 hours and 10 minutes. Given that 2009’s movie was around 2 hrs, 45 mins, that number seems highly plausible. Time to invest in some adult diapers, people.

But despite his valiant efforts, it seems some battles just cannot be stopped as Black Adam‘s Dwayne Johnson has inadvertently waged war on Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and a wild new rumor claims that Warner Bros. execs attempted to steal Marvel’s MVP to save their own flailing franchise.

The Rock has got us wondering after sharing The Talk‘s spoof sketch featuring a Teth-Adam and Thor Odinson confrontation and tagging Chris Hemsworth, thereby inciting the fans to get into a fierce debate as they ponder who would emerge victorious from such a deathmatch. Latest Marvel News: Sony webs up yet another Spidey villain movie as an MCU bad guy confirms they’re still alive

Hold back, heroes, it’s the villains’ time to shine. The biggest Marvel news of the day this Friday concerns not the MCU, but its less-loved younger brother who resents their older sibling for inheriting all the good looks and charisma — namely, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which has just added another new movie to its docket. Elsewhere, one of the most effective foes the Avengers ever faced has assured us their character is still alive, even though we never thought they weren’t.

Sony orders another Spider-Verse sequel (and no, don’t worry, it’s not Morbius)

Prepare yourselves, people, Sony is unleashing yet another of its Spidey spinoff movies on an unsuspecting world. In news that shouldn’t come as a shock, the studio is moving forward with Venom 3, with the Tom Hardy-starring franchise yet again changing directors. Andy Serkis, who already replaced Ruben Fleischer on Let There be Carnage, is likewise ducking out in favor of Kelly Marcel (Fifty Shades of Grey) making their directorial debut on the threequel.

It’s been a very busy week for Star Wars. That’s given us a lot to chew on. But today we have a neat interview with Andor‘s Fiona Shaw, a convincing report on when the next big screen adventure will drop, and fans still grumbling over The Last Jedi.

Taylor Swift’s ‘Les Misérables’ screen test was somehow less successful than ‘Cats’

Taylor Swift’s ‘Les Misérables’ screen test was somehow less successful than ‘Cats’

Appearing in 2012’s Les Misérables wouldn’t have necessarily pumped up Taylor Swift‘s reputation in musicals, especially if it was going to be followed up by the disastrous and nightmarish Cats anyway, so her not bagging the role of Cosette or Eponine probably worked out for the best.

Continuing to celebrate the release of Midnights, and breaking several streaming records while at it, Swift recently appeared in a bejeweled frock on the Graham Norton Show alongside a roster of other A-listers including Eddie Redmayne. The two of them pairing up on a talk show is something that no Swiftie would’ve possibly thought worthy of a second look, but as ever, looks can be deceiving.

Film fans ponder which movies would be improved by Nick Fury showing up in a post-credits scene

We all remember that special moment back in 2008, when we got completely caught off guard by the mysterious post-credits scene at the end of the first Iron Man movie, in which Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, sat down with protagonist Tony Stark to talk about the Avengers Initiative. What followed was arguably the largest pop culture phenomenon in the last decade; one that looks primed to continue spilling into the next.

But what if it wasn’t Iron Man that housed that faithful cameo? What if it was Donnie Darko? What if it was The Fifth Element? What if, God forbid, it was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?

Latest Horror News: Fans praise a timeless festive slasher, and an underwhelming supernatural horror hunts down the streaming charts

We’re nearing Halloween weekend, which means that spooky season is officially upon us. Thus, horror movies are dominating the streaming charts in preparation for the scariest, goriest and most enjoyable time of the year. We’re back again for another horror news roundup, and this one’s a scream. Before Mariah Carey and Michael Bublé defrost from their slumber, we’d better cherish every last moment of Halloween before another month passes us by and we’re forced to endure another 365-day hiatus. Thankfully, horror has infinite replay value, so it’s accessible year round.

Speaking of Christmas, a fan-favorite festive classic is making an appearance in today’s roundup along with honorable mentions for a reboot-remake-sequel and supernatural scarefest. The leaves are falling, the air is bitter-cold, and the ghoulish ghosties and creepy-crawlies are out to play. Let’s see what ghastly news the witches are brewing.

Latest ‘Star Wars’ News: Lucasfilm celebrates Saturn Awards wins, and fans love Count Dooku in ‘Tales of the Jedi’

Latest ‘Star Wars’ News: Lucasfilm celebrates Saturn Awards wins, and fans love Count Dooku in ‘Tales of the Jedi’

Yesterday saw one of the biggest drops in Star Wars media in a long time, with a new episode of Andor and the six-part Tales of the Jedi animated show giving fans a lot to digest. Historically, the CG shows have been a little hit-or-miss, though with The Bad Batch they’re now hitting a consistently high quality.

As such, Tales of the Jedi didn’t disappoint. We liked Dave Filoni filling in some blank spots in Ahsoka Tano’s prequel-era story, but the real star of this show was Count Dooku. The Attack of the Clones villain didn’t get the screen time he deserved in that movie. Although he’s a major player in The Clone Wars, this look back on his time with Qui-Gon Jinn and his gradual disillusion with the Senate and Jedi Order was compelling viewing.

However, many MCU fans are hoping her role might be the first bellwether for Fantastic Four villain Dr. Victor von Doom officially entering the chat.

A useless legal thriller that wasted a top-tier cast gets held in contempt by streaming users

It’s arguably a lot more difficult to make a bad movie when there’s enough talent in the cast to elevate even the shakiest of material above mediocrity, but no amount of recognizable names and living legends could manage to polish the cinematic turd that was 2016’s Misconduct.

About as banal and uninteresting as its title, Shintaro Shimosawa’s directorial debut deservedly landed an objectionable seven percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. The user rating may have been over three times as high, but 22 percent is hardly a barometer of quality that you’d expect given the names on display.
