New Photos From The Batman Showcase The Next Dark Knight

New Photos From The Batman Showcase The Next Dark Knight

Matt Reeves’ The Batman comes at an interesting time for the titular hero. Warner Bros’ plan to abandon Zack Snyder and Ben Affleck’s take on the Dark Knight was derailed when Zack Snyder’s Justice League became an unexpected hit and audiences began clamoring for his story to be continued. The chances of the Snyderverse continuing now seem slim, but Affleck will reprise the role in The Flash alongside Michael Keaton’s Burtonverse Batman.

Intense hype for both those appearances has meant that Robert Pattinson’s hot new Batman in town has been somewhat sidelined. Some of that is down to the delays caused by COVID (including Pattinson himself testing positive). Warner Bros. had to pause production on several occasions but, after multiple postponements, it’s now confirmed that the pic will premiere in March 2022.

Now the hype fires are beginning to flicker into life once more, as we have new pictures from EW giving us our best look at Pattinson’s Batman yet. Check them out:

This is far from our first glimpse of Pattinson in the batsuit, but it cements the early reports that the primary inspiration was artist Lee Bermejo, most notably in elements like the hand-stitched leather cowl. It’s also interesting that the logo seems lifted from Rocksteady’s Arkham video games, and there are still theories that it may be constructed from the gun that killed his parents.

Though the release is still some way off, we’re starting to see more material from the movie leak that gives us an idea of what to expect so let’s hope we see more images like this soon. While interest in The Batman has cooled off slightly since that first trailer dropped I reckon it’ll be back with a vengeance in late summer as Warner Bros kicks the marketing campaign into high gear.

The Batman will swoop into theaters on Mach 4, 2022.

Black Widow Stills Show How Nat’s Costume Ties Into Avengers: Infinity War

Black Widow Stills Show How Nat’s Costume Ties Into Avengers: Infinity War

Black Movie is beyond a shadow of a doubt the most highly anticipated production on the horizon after the conclusion of the Infinity Saga in 2019, but interestingly enough, it’s also the first film that takes place in the past and defies the chronological timeline of the MCU.

Indeed, we’ve learned that Natasha Romanoff’s solo outing will take place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, which, at the very least, explains the character’s sudden on-screen resurrection after her demise in Endgame. But going beyond Marvel Studios’ attempt at finally giving Black Widow her own flick, the producers have the benefit of hindsight as a powerful storytelling device for this particular narrative.

To that end, high-quality stills of Scarlett Johansson in costume as the titular protagonist that had recently surfaced online showcase how the superheroine’s apparel evolved into her unique garment in the last two Avengers films.

We wouldn’t be surprised to see Cate Shortland’s pic pay homage to Nat and her journey through the MCU by incorporating solemn scenes that hint at her eventual death. And what better way to do that than visit her old family back in Russia? But besides that, more connections of a subtle nature are also bound to pop up every now and again throughout the film.

As for her suit, back during the Sokovia Accords incident, Natasha was sporting one that was entirely black, geared towards stealth as was her M.O., but in Infinity War, her armor had protective features. Now, in Black Widow, we see that the greyish outlines of the suit actually draw parallels with that final costume, so it’ll be interesting to see how the character gets her hands on it in the film.

Quentin Tarantino Calls Bruce Lee Unprofessional, Tells Critics To Suck A D***

Quentin Tarantino Calls Bruce Lee Unprofessional, Tells Critics To Suck A D***

Quentin Tarantino has never been one to shy away from controversy. In fact, many of his films have proven to be controversial in one way or another. The most recent case was Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which depicted martial arts icon Bruce Lee in a way that Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, said was “irresponsible” and “the way white Hollywood treated [her] father when he was alive.”

On a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Tarantino said that he although understands Shannon Lee’s issues with the way her father was depicted, he has no time for others to criticize the portrayal.

“Where I am coming from is I can understand his daughter having a problem with it. It’s her fucking father. I get that,” Tarantino said, per IndieWire. “But anybody else, oh suck a dick!”

Shannon Lee said she disliked how her father was portrayed, even saying that the film depicted him as an “arrogant asshole who was full of hot air.” Tarantino said he did find Bruce Lee to be arrogant in his research, and he subsequently refused to alter Lee’s portrayal, which seemingly led the film to not be released in China. Tarantino also explained Lee’s alleged combative nature with American stuntmen, such as famous stuntman and martial artist Gene LeBell, on Rogan’s podcast:

“Bruce had no respect for American stuntmen, he was always hitting them with his feet,” Tarantino continued. “It’s called tagging when you hit a stuntman for real. He was always tagging them with his feet and his fist and it got to the point where they would refuse to work with Bruce. He had nothing but disrespect for American stuntmen. It was probably just like, ‘Oh they’re just not good enough. They are pussies. I want to make it look real!’ But stuntmen don’t like that. That’s unprofessional.”

Bruce Lee

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and its cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie, received numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.

Quentin Tarantino, 58, has directed many acclaimed films, such as Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, Pulp Fiction, and the Kill Bill movies, but he maintains he will retire following his next film. He said directors do not get better as they age, and he wants to get out while he is at or near the top.

What Are Midi-cholorians In Star Wars?

What Are Midi-cholorians In Star Wars?

In a world full of space ships and laser swords, perhaps nothing is too out there to belong in Star Wars—even magic. For a long time, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the Force, the power wielded by the Jedi Knights and their enemies, the Sith, was gifted upon them in a kind of mystical, magical way. But it turns out that isn’t entirely the case.

In the Phantom Menace, it’s revealed that Anakin has an unusually high count of something they call Midi-chlorians. The count is so high that the Jedi believe he could be the one to bring balance to the force. So what are they?

What are Midi-chlorians?

Midi-hlorians are, intelligent microscopic life-forms that live inside the cells of all living things. Having Midi-chlorians grants users the ability to detect the Force. A normal creature boasts relatively few Midi-chlorians and shows little to no force sensitivity.

Their Midi-chlorian count can be used to judge how much potential a person has within the Force, but there are other factors that could influence that too. Just because a Force user has an unusually high Midi-chlorian count doesn’t mean they have a greater Force ability than other Jedi with lower counts.

The total Midi-chlorians that a Jedi has isn’t the same for all force users. Anakin Skywalker was said to have had the highest count in history, even above Master Yoda own. What makes Anakin’s case unique is that he is believed to have been conceived by Midi-chlorians, hinted at by the fact that Anakin doesn’t have a birth father.

A person’s Midi-chlorian count can be tested through a blood test, as demonstrated by Qui-Gon Jinn in The Phantom Menace. These tests were one of the most common ways that the Jedi Order located Force-sensitive children.

One of the key things that these life-forms work to do is to connect users to the Force, which allows them to sense for disturbances and powerful entities in the distance. On the darker side of the force, as Emporer Palpatine has explained, Midi-chlorians have been used to create life. And in a deleted scene from Revenge of the Sith, he even tells Anakin that he had manipulated the Midi-chlorians in his mother’s womb to birth the perfect apprentice.

How Many Marvel Movies Are There?

How Many Marvel Movies Are There?

Marvel Studios has put together a universe for its characters that has, to some degrees, changed blockbuster cinema forever. Beginning with the first Iron Man in 2008 and eventually culminating in Avengers: Endgame, the Marvel Cinematic Universe eventually came to comprise dozens of movies and several television series. But at the same time, other studios also own the rights to many of Marvel’s best comic-book characters—so it can get confusing when it comes to crossing over characters.

For Marvel fans who want to tick off each movie from their watchlist and make sure they haven’t missed any of the character’s appearances on screen, here’s the complete list of Marvel movies–both MCU and otherwise.

Every Marvel movie with a cinematic release

The MCU

When it comes to Marvel films, most casual moviegoers will be referring to the MCU. This universe includes all the films that were produced by the Disney-owned Marvel Studios themselves.

  • Iron Man
  • The Incredible Hulk
  • Iron Man 2
  • Thor
  • Captain America: The First Avenger
  • The Avengers
  • Iron Man 3
  • Thor: The Dark World

  • Spider-Man: Homecoming (Co-Produced with Sony)
  • Thor: Ragnarok
  • Black Panther
  • Avengers: Infinity War
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp
  • Captain Marvel
  • Avengers: Endgame
  • Spider-Man: Far from home (Co-Produced with Sony)

Fox

Before Marvel kicked things off with its own universe of characters, Fox had already helped usher in the superhero era in filmmaking thanks to its successful X-Men franchise, which launched in 2000. The studio would continue to make plenty of films starring Marvel characters before being acquired by Disney in 2019.

  • X-Men
  • Daredevil
  • X2
  • Elektra
  • Fantastic Four
  • X-Men: The Last Stand
  • Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

  • X-Men: Apocalypse
  • Logan
  • Deadpool 2
  • X-Men: Dark Pheonix

Sony

Another company that owned the rights to many Marvel characters including the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man himself was Sony. Here are all the films Sony’s studio Columbia Pictures has created using Marvel characters.

  • Spider-Man
  • Spider-Man 2
  • Ghost Rider
  • Spider-Man 3
  • Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
  • The Amazing Spider-Man
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Everything else

While those are the three companies who have handled the majority of Marvel Live-Action films over the years, here are the rest of the films that aired on the big screen starring characters from the Marvel Comics universe.

  • Captain America (1944)
  • Howard the Duck (1986)
  • The Punisher (1989)
  • Captain America (1990)
  • The Fantastic Four (1994)
  • Blade
  • Blade II
  • Hulk
  • The Punisher

Vin Diesel Says The Fourth Riddick Movie Is Ready To Shoot

Vin Diesel Says The Fourth Riddick Movie Is Ready To Shoot

Vin Diesel is a busy man. After producing and starring in the Fast & Furious franchise he’s become one of the world’s highest-grossing actors, in addition to running a production company, a record label, a games development studio, and, of course, voicing Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. But there’s one property that remains particularly close to his heart: Riddick.

Diesel’s breakout role was in 2000’s Pitch Black, which introduced us to badass monster-killing space mercenary Richard B. Riddick. Since then he’s played the character in 2004’s The Chronicles of Riddick and animated short Dark Fury, 2013’s Riddick and well-received video games Escape from Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena. A return to the character has long been mooted in Riddick 4: Furya and now Diesel has given us the best indication yet that it’s still coming.

In an interview with Games Radar, he said:

“David Twohy, he wrote a great script. It’s just a matter of timing when we get that opportunity to shoot that. But I believe we’re shooting that in Australia. And it would be the fourth chapter in that series, which would be awesome.”

Riddick

He went on to say that a new movie could be just one aspect of Riddick’s revival, with further games also planned:

“We did have great success with Escape From Butcher Bay. It feels like an eternity ago now. But, I imagine that we would take advantage of the gaming space and add an extra chapter. But definitely, the [movie’s] script is already written. So it’s safe to say that we are moving towards filming the fourth chapter of Riddick.”

The title Furya points to a focus on Riddick’s home planet, so we should learn more about his origins and potentially his family. Riddick made a choice to suppress most memories of his past in order to become a better warrior, so this is a good hint that some serious beef went down there. Furya is desolate after a Necromonger invasion, though I suspect it may hold hidden secrets in its cursed depths.

Let’s hope for confirmation soon on when the next Riddick movie will shoot, but it doesn’t sound like it’s too far off.

Pierce Brosnan Is Tired Of Being Asked Who Should Be The Next James Bond

Pierce Brosnan Is Tired Of Being Asked Who Should Be The Next James Bond

It doesn’t matter who you are and what you go on to accomplish, any actor to have played a major role in an iconic franchise is going to spend the rest of their career being asked about it ad nauseum, something former James Bond Pierce Brosnan will have resigned himself to a long time ago.

Several Harry Potter stars have admitted their frustrations that people can’t see past their tenure as part of the Wizarding World even though it ended a decade ago, while Harrison Ford simply tells folks that he doesn’t care about their Star Wars questions. Brosnan seems like an eminently nice chap, though, so he’s always game to answer 007-related lines of inquiry.

Of course, it’s all just part of the job having spent close to a decade under the tux, but you can understand the 68 year-old’s frustrations when he’s out there trying to promote whatever his latest project is and the valuable interview time is being eaten up by a focus on probing him for his opinions on a role that he hasn’t played for almost 20 years.

Naturally, while out on the press circuit for heist comedy The Misfits, Brosnan was once more asked who he’d like to see inherit the mantle after Daniel Craig bows out when No Time to Die is finally released later this year. Admittedly, he named Idris Elba and Tom Hardy as his preferred candidates, but it’s clear he’s getting fed up repeating himself over and over again.

“Sometimes it becomes wearisome. You have to get over that and celebrate it as a member of the audience and as a man who has kind of walked that walk and played that part. Bond will live on here.”

The bad news is that Brosnan has several more movies in the pipeline including low budget horror False Positive, Amazon’s Cinderella, the DCEU’s Black Adam and long-delayed family fantasy The King’s Daughter, so the James Bond questions are only going to keep coming.

Kevin Feige Explains Why The Mandarin Wasn’t In Any Iron Man Movies

Kevin Feige Explains Why The Mandarin Wasn’t In Any Iron Man Movies

When Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings hits theaters in September, it’ll both introduce a brand new superhero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and tie back to the franchise’s two earliest films, with The Incredible Hulk‘s Abomination confirmed to return, and Iron Man‘s archenemy the Mandarin positioned as the big bad.

The Ten Rings were introduced in the MCU’s very first installment, refitted as a terrorist organization responsible for the capture of Tony Stark, and secretly funded by Obadiah Stane all along. From there, the comic book favorite’s ultimate foe was never mentioned again until his third solo outing, which featured a plot twist that’s still debated to this day.

It looked as though Ben Kingsley was the Mandarin, before the divisive reveal that the fearsome terrorist was a ruse concocted by Aldrich Killian, who hired jobbing and substance-dependent actor Trevor Slattery to play the role. But this was then swiftly retconned in One-Shot All the Hail the King, where it’s confirmed the Mandarin is very real, and not best pleased at seeing his identity used for other means.

Tony Leung is technically billed as Wenwu in Shang-Chi, but the Mandarin has been confirmed as one of his many aliases. In a new interview, Kevin Feige explained why the Iron Man franchise neglected to feature a true interpretation of the character’s most famous adversary, and why now was the right time.

“That’s what’s fun about the MCU at this stage. We can do something like Shang-Chi, introducing a brand new hero into the MCU and into the world at large. But that subtitle, The Legend of the Ten Rings, actually connects it back to the very beginning of the MCU, the Ten Rings being the organization that kidnapped Tony Stark at the very beginning of Iron Man one. And that organization was inspired by a character called the Mandarin in the comics.”

And going back to Iron Man 1, we’ve been talking about that when we do bring this character to the screen, we only wanted to do it when we felt we could do it supreme justice and really showcase the complexity of this character, which frankly we couldn’t do in an Iron Man movie because an Iron Man movie is about Iron Man; an Iron Man movie is about Tony Stark. So Shane Black, in his film and his script that he co-wrote, came up with this fun twist that we love to this day, and it turned out to be Trevor Slattery. Just because that version wasn’t real didn’t mean there’s not a leader of the Ten Rings organization, and that is who we meet for the first time in Shang-Chi.”

Of course, another obvious reason is that a straightforward depiction of the Mandarin lifted straight from Marvel Comics wouldn’t play too well with modern audiences, not to mention that the Iron Man series was much more interested in the technological and scientific than mystical and supernatural.
