A Forgotten Jason Statham Movie Hits Netflix Tomorrow

A Forgotten Jason Statham Movie Hits Netflix Tomorrow

Netflix has a load of classic movies coming this February 1st, and among them is one of Jason Statham‘s best films. Just a few weeks after Homefront debuted on the platform, and quickly raced to the top of the charts, the streamer is now adding 2008’s The Bank Job, one of the most well-regarded entries in Statham’s action oeuvre, though it’s one that fans of the Fast & Furious star have mostly overlooked.

The Bank Job is a British heist movie based on a real-life bank robbery that occurred in 1971 in central London. The incident is one of the most famous crimes of the 20th century due to the fact that the stolen money – estimated to be potentially as high as £3 million – was never recovered. What’s also interesting is that the film’s producers claimed to have an inside source – one of the gang members involved in the burglary – who informed them of what really went on.

The Bank Job

Statham plays East London gangster Terry Leather, who’s hired by an ex-model (Saffron Burrows) who now has ties to MI5 to infiltrate a bank branch at Baker Street. Unbeknownst to Terry, though, she’s been tasked with retrieving some compromising photos of a British royal that are hidden away at the bank, which are being used as leverage by vicious crime boss Michael X (Peter de Jersey) to keep the authorities off his back.

Sporting an impressive Certified Fresh rating of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes, The Bank Job is “well cast and crisply directed” by Roger Donaldson, according to RT’s Critics Consensus, and overall is a “thoroughly entertaining British heist thriller.” As a relatively low budget UK release, it didn’t earn much money at the box office, so it’s probably slipped most fans of Jason Statham by. Netflix is the perfect home for it, then, and it’ll no doubt find a lot of love amongst those waiting for Hobbs & Shaw 2

One Of Elliot Page’s Best Movies Hits Netflix Tomorrow

One Of Elliot Page’s Best Movies Hits Netflix Tomorrow

Netflix is adding a load of new movies this Monday, February 1st, and among them is one of the most iconic films of the 2010s. Yes, Inception is being dropped into the streamer’s library as of tomorrow and with Elliot Page being in the news a lot recently, it seems like a good time to revisit one of the actor’s best ever projects.

Page plays the part of Ariadne, who fills a key role within Cobb (DiCaprio)’s literal dream team. An architecture student taught by Cobb’s father-in-law (Michael Caine), her job is to design the labyrinth of the dream that the group is using to infiltrate the mind of Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy), the heir to a business empire that his competitor (Ken Watanabe) has hired Cobb to make sure he dissolves. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy and Marion Cotillard also feature.

Of course, Inception is famous for, among other things, its ambiguous ending, which leaves it up to the viewer to decide whether Cobb has managed to return to the real world or if he’s still lost in his subconscious. Nolan’s always refused to provide a definitive explanation publicly, but Caine actually spilled the beans a couple of years ago and revealed what the director had privately told him was the intention behind the scene.

As for Elliot Page, he made waves by coming out as transgender/non-binary back in November, and this month filed for a divorce from wife Emma Portner. Though they pulled out of upcoming gamer comedy 1Up, to be replaced by Ruby Rose, the star is confirmed to be returning as Vanya Hargreeves for Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy season 3, which may see the character likewise come out as trans, according to recent reports.

Sticking closer to home, though, and be sure to catch Inception on the streaming platform from tomorrow if you’re looking to revisit some of the Juno star’s old work.

Deadpool Will Reportedly Make Fun Of Almost The Entire MCU In Deadpool 3

Deadpool Will Reportedly Make Fun Of Almost The Entire MCU In Deadpool 3

One of the most unique aspects about Fox’s Deadpool movies is that the title hero didn’t care who he was making fun of, with everyone becoming a target. Not only that, but his status as a self-aware and fourth-wall breaking character meant that he was more than happy to take shots at any superhero franchise from any studio.

Over the course of the first two installments, we heard the Merc with a Mouth ask Colossus whether Patrick Stewart or James McAvoy was Professor X, while there was the obligatory Green Lantern jab when Wade Wilson demanded that his superhero suit be neither green nor animated. Hugh Jackman was inevitably the butt of several jokes, too, and the rebooted X-Men cast made a hilarious cameo in Deadpool 2, in which Josh Brolin’s Cable was also referred to as Thanos for good measure.

When it comes to Deadpool, then, nothing is off limits, and we’ve now heard from our sources – the same ones who told us Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker will be returning for Obi-Wan Kenobi, and that Luke Skywalker would appear in The Mandalorian – that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first R-rated outing is going to put most of the franchise’s marquee heroes in the firing line from the second Wade Wilson first shows up and a whole host of familiar Marvel characters (and even actors) will be made fun of throughout the course of the film.

With Kevin Feige confirming Deadpool 3 as official canon, it’ll certainly be interesting to see how the architect of the MCU drops somebody like the Merc with a Mouth into his carefully constructed mythology, which has operated by its own rigid set of rules for thirteen years. Needless to say, the foul-mouthed mercenary is no doubt going to blow into the universe like a force of nature, verbally destroying everyone and everything in his sights once he gets there.

Marvel Reportedly Developing New MCU Movie Starring Openly Gay Hero

Marvel Reportedly Developing New MCU Movie Starring Openly Gay Hero

For all the MCU’s successes, Marvel fans have often criticized the franchise for its lack of LGBTQ+ representation. It took until Avengers: Endgame for the universe to have its first openly gay character – and even then it was a one-scene role played by director Joe Russo in a cameo. Kevin Feige and company are well aware of the issue, though, and are working on this for the future. And before long, they may deliver a major, groundbreaking first.

According to Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is looking to make “the first openly gay superhero movie”. Presumably the scooper, who revealed this rumor that he’s heard on his Patreon page, means that the studio is in the early stages of developing a film featuring an openly gay superhero lead. This would indeed be the first of its kind. Even though the likes of Deadpool 2 and Birds of Prey have featured significant LGBTQ characters, they were not the titular protagonists.

Obviously, what we’re now wondering is: which openly gay hero from the comics would be the star of this rumored movie? There are a bunch of LGBTQ X-Men who could be due a solo flick, like Iceman or Northstar. Could we get a Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff for Moondragon? How about a film for the Young Avengers’ Wiccan and Hulkling? Billy was just introduced alongside his brother Tommy AKA Speed in WandaVision.

Ahead of this purported project, we’ve got a few big strides in this department coming in Phase 4. The Eternals will feature an openly gay character amongst its ensemble – Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos, who’ll be married with a child. Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will likewise be looking for her queen in Thor: Love and Thunder. Plus, there’s hope Carol Danvers will come out as queer in Captain Marvel 2.

The next Marvel movie due out is, of course, Black Widow, which may or may not finally release this May.
