It sounds ridiculous to think that Avatar: The Way of Water was being labeled as a flop after its first weekend in theaters, because we’ve learned better than to doubt James Cameron, with the filmmaker once again pointing and laughing directly in the face of his doubters.

Not only has the sci-fi sequel been tearing it up at the box office both at home and abroad, but it sailed past the billion-dollar threshold in less than two weeks, becoming one of the fastest movies ever to do so. Not only that, but it’s already surpassed Top Gun: Maverick as 2022’s highest-grossing overseas release, and it ain’t done yet by a long shot.

A cult classic horror that fully deserved the sequel it never got takes a chainsaw to the streaming charts

Any horror franchise that sticks around for a while almost inevitably succumbs to the law of diminishing returns eventually, but we’ll never get to find out if that would have been the case for Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, which shamefully remains a one-and-done effort.

To be fair, that may have had something to do with the fact the widely-acclaimed cult classic flopped at the box office after barely making it past $5 million during its theatrical run, even if it almost instantly went on to become a home video word-of-mouth hit.

The Andrew Tate movie fan casting has begun, with a Marvel star eyed for Greta Thunberg

Perhaps unfairly, Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker is often at the center of criticism about Disney’s sequel trilogy. For many Star Wars fans, she’s emblematic of the project’s flaws: the eventual reveal she’s Palpatine’s granddaughter doesn’t make sense, she’s pilloried as a Mary Sue for being naturally good at everything, and making her the embodiment of “all the Jedi” doesn’t feel earned.

The official ‘Glass Onion’ account continues to bask in the warm glow of universal acclaim

Everyone seems to be loving Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Rian Johnson’s sequel to the similarly successful 2019 movie Knives Out.

After 346 reviews, the 2022 sequel, which sees Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc take on a new murder mystery, is sitting pretty at a 94% rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. The people behind the official Glass Onion account took no time being smug about it.

‘The Flash’ merch hints that Michael Keaton is returning with even more of his wonderful toys

As far as we’ve been led to believe, The Flash is still theoretically coming out next summer. The debut solo film for the Scarlet Speedster has faced a journey through development hell. Originally intended for a 2016 release, it gradually cycled through directors and scripts before finally going before the cameras in 2021. Then came a mountain of terrible press about star Ezra Miller, shortly followed by a creative shakeup at Warner Bros.

As such, many fans have called for The Flash to follow Batgirl and be permanently shelved, but the fact we’re beginning to see merchandise emerge indicates that it’s full steam ahead.

In an interview earlier this week, Johnson attempted to explain how he wanted to make “a movie” rather than simply a piece of intellectual property, saying “I love an ending where you burn the Viking boat into the sea.”

The one ‘Glass Onion’ character we all forgot was in ‘Stranger Things’

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is chock-full of big-name celebrities who’ve starred in some of our favorite movies and TV shows. Among them, is 25-year-old actress Madelyn Cline, a rising star whose role in the Rian Johnson film has catapulted her to the forefront of the conversation. Cline, as it turns out, is no stranger to starring in mega-hit successes, which also includes one of Netflix’s biggest shows of all time, Stranger Things. 

Just 20 years old at the time, Cline played a high school student named Tina in the season two premiere of Stranger Things titled “Chapter One: MADMAX.” Remember Tina? Step aside, Daniel Craig: The real star of ‘Glass Onion’ was snubbed by the Golden Globes, and we demand to know why

Like its predecessor, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is filled to the brim with a star-studded cast. From Daniel Craig and Kate Hudson to Kathryn Hahn and Dave Bautista; from Leslie Odom Jr. and Madelyn Cline to Jessica Henwick and Edward Norton, all the way to the many cameos that flavored the film like a well-seasoned steak: Angela Lansbury, Hugh Grant, Natasha Lyonne, Stephen Sondheim, Ethan Hawke, Kareem Adbul-Jabbar, Yo-Yo Ma, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. 

Nevertheless, after the true killer was revealed and the credits rolled, the name on everybody’s lips was Janelle Monáe. So strong was her performance that her name was the one to watch out for among the list of Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical/Comedy. However, when The Hollywood Foreign Press Association released the nominations, Monáe’s name was nowhere to be found despite the fact that three years prior Ana de Armas received the nomination in the same category for a role akin to Monáe’s in Knives Out. Daniel Craig was nominated for Best Actor both times for Knives Out and Glass Onion.

Review: Noah Baumbach’s ‘White Noise’ adaptation is more of an intellectual oddity than mainstream triumph

White Noise was adapted for the screen by Noah Baumbach from the 1985 book by Don DeLillo — one of America’s greatest living novelists — and hits Netflix Dec. 30.

In a career spanning over fifty years, this post-modernist has dissected cultural pre-occupations through era-defining literature including Libra (1988), which centered on the Kennedy assassination, as well as Underworld (1997) — a Pulitzer Prize finalist for fiction which many consider to be his masterpiece.
