Tom Holland is already one of cinema’s most iconic heroes, but the Spider-Man actor has long made it known that he would love to play another that would allow him to use his own English accent. The 23-year-old star has made no secret that he has dreams of playing James Bond in the future. Of course, if he landed the role now, he’d be easily the youngest person to portray the part of the super spy.
And, according to Holland, he’s actually doing just that. While speaking with Extra to promote Spider-Man: Far From Home, the topic of him being linked to 007 came up and the actor took the opportunity to have some fun. Holland joked that he’s already signed up to replace Daniel Craig and is excited to “change the game” of the franchise going forward.
“It’s all true, it’s all true. I would [love it], yeah. I’m so excited that they’ve cast me, it’s really exciting. I’m really gonna change the game, and thanks for bringing that to my attention, I forgot about it. It just slipped my mind. But yeah, I’m Bond. Mr. James Bond.”
Given his age and his commitments to the Marvel universe – a franchise he doesn’t seem to want to leave anytime soon – it’s unlikely that Holland will actually get the coveted gig. Though a selection of his MCU co-stars are also rumored to be in the running, including Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba and Chris Hemsworth.
He might be an outsider for the Bond role, but Holland has already been snapped up to star as another action/adventure hero. He’s been attached to the Uncharted movie as a young Nathan Drake since 2017, and that finally gained a director in 10 Cloverfield Lane‘s Dan Trachtenberg earlier this year. It’s due for release in December 2020.
In the meantime, be sure to catch Holland in his fifth appearance as the webslinger in Spider-Man: Far From Home from July 2nd.
