Daisy Ridley Says She’s Not In The New Star Wars Trilogies

Daisy Ridley’s time in the Star Wars saga might be coming to an end soon.

The actress is only a few months away now from welcoming The Rise of Skywalker into theaters, in which she’ll reprise her breakout role (Rey). In a strange twist of fate, it’ll be helmed by J.J. Abrams, who intends on closing out the story he began back in The Force Awakens. And after that?

Well, we know Lucasfilm is working on a brand new trilogy from Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi), which will surely offer up the closest thing to a blank canvas since George Lucas first brought us A New Hope in ’77. Meanwhile, there’s also another new trilogy coming from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. But despite rumors to the contrary, Ridley says she won’t be appearing in either of those.

“I mean, I can say I’m not in the next trilogy,” the actress shared with BuzzFeed when asked if she would be involved. “No. I think, ’cause Rian always said…if it’s the Rian one…or it’s the guys that did Game of Thrones. I’m not sure. Whichever one it was, they always said it was going to be a separate story. So I’m not. No.”

Of course, this flies in the face of something we reported on just this weekend, which is that Lucasfilm was hoping to bring Rey back for whichever trilogy will be set in the modern day – likely Johnson’s. So, what’s going on here?

Well, as is so often the case with these things, we imagine that it’s in Ridley’s contract that she has to deny involvement in future projects until it’s officially announced. Simply put, she can’t reveal that she’ll be showing up in the next trilogy until Lucasfilm makes that news public. So, the name of the game for now is deny everything.

Time will tell what happens, of course, but speaking to our sources, We Got This Covered still has every reason to believe that Ridley will return as Rey even after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th. But again, it’ll probably be a long while before that’s made public and until it is, we expect the actress to continue to deny it.
