The MCU takes a lot of criticism for its writing, but some soundbites will stand the test of time

The MCU takes a lot of criticism for its writing, but some soundbites will stand the test of time

While the quality of the storytelling in the MCU post-Avengers: Endgame has been somewhat hit and miss with a fair share of its films and Disney Plus shows falling flat with audiences, it’s most certainly not all bad. While some of the franchise’s properties and dialogue may not end up aging all that well, there’s still a good reason for why Marvel’s live-action efforts became so globally popular – there were some genuinely human moments throughout which managed to enrapture us en masse.

In the spirit of that, folks over on the Marvel Studios subreddit gathered up to share some of the most memorable and impactful quotes from the MCU so far, which they think will stand the test of time. No matter how many cringeworthy product placements (Fortnite, really?) or era-specific social media references which will fall out of vogue within a matter of years, there are some moments which will retain their impact no matter what. The author of the thread, u/FullToragatsu, kicked the discussion off with their pick:

Today’s Google Doodle is hitting ‘Harry Potter’ fans square in the feels

Anyone in need of a quick web surf today should prepare themselves for a tear-jerker, as Google has unveiled a particularly nostalgic celebration of the life and career of the late Alan Rickman as part of its Google Doodle series. While largely known for his scene-stealing portrayal of Severus Snape in the Harry Potter film franchise, Google has remembered the anniversary of a different role performed by the beloved actor: his 1987 Broadway performance of Vicomte de Valmont in the play Les Liaisons Dangereuses

According to Insider, the play — which debuted on this day 36 years ago and ran for 149 shows  — was pivotal in launching Rickman’s career, and was responsible for his later appearance in a slew of blockbusters including Die Hard and Harry Potter. “Over the course of his career, Rickman received numerous acting nominations and awards and even directed three plays and two films,” Google Doodle’s accompanying description reads.

If there is one Star Wars celebrity who won’t sign your merch, that will be Bill Hader. The comedian confessed that he won’t be signing any merch, even if it means disappointing fans. However, he has a valid reason for why he won’t be doing so.

Hader appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused Podcast, where he talked about his experience working on Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a voice consultant for BB-8. The comedian appreciated that his name was credited in the film, which led to people wanting him to sign merch.

The Snyderverse love hits pause with a long list of ‘bad ideas’ as Zack Snyder’s newly unveiled DC plans test loyalties

The Snyderverse love hits pause with a long list of ‘bad ideas’ as Zack Snyder’s newly unveiled DC plans test loyalties

Ever since Zack Snyder bid farewell to the former DCEU and his vision for the franchise never really got its conclusion, Snyderverse fans have been fighting tooth and nail to get his plans a place in the new DCU. While Snyder stans do pat themselves on the back for the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the director openly sharing his rather unhinged scenarios for his version of DC universe is putting steadfast loyalties through the grinder and has even led to the compilation of one long list with multiple contributions highlighting how nothing was ever right with his DCEU, to begin with.

After his exit from DC land, Snyder has shared some very eyebrow-raising and nausea-inducing schemes he had for the franchise, which thankfully never reached fruition, like his desire to make Lois Lane and Bruce Wayne hook up after Superman’s “temporary” death. But while these transgressions were forgiven and fans once again deep-dived into defending his vision, his new revelations have set the fandom on edge.

Mark Hamill confirms a long-held rumor about the making of the ‘Star Wars’ trilogy

Mark Hamill is an icon in the Star Wars universe, taking on the character of Luke Skywalker — the greatest Jedi in any galaxy and a fan-favorite character in the intergalactic realm of stories and films. Hamill isn’t just a legendary actor in Star Wars but across the entertainment realm as a whole, and that is partly due to his dedication and passion for each character he portrays.

It’s that very dedication that led to a fan interaction on Twitter today that confirmed a rumor floating around the galaxy for decades, one that fans could never get enough of. @XDarthThunderX asked Hamill if he could confirm the use of his head vs. a prop head in one of the most monumental scenes in The Empire Strikes Back.

Arnold Schwarzenegger embraces nepotism by gushing over son-in-law Chris Pratt’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’

As a legendary figure in the industry that’s been around the block and back several times over, fans have spent years fantasizing over the possibility of Arnold Schwarzenegger potentially boarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and there might be an opening if he doesn’t need to step on son-in-law Chris Pratt’s toes.

While the long-serving Star-Lord hasn’t confirmed whether or not Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will mark the end of his association with the shared superhero saga, it wouldn’t be a shock were he to join James Gunn, Dave Bautista, and Zoe Saldana in permanently bidding farewell to Kevin Feige’s all-conquering comic book conglomerate.

Latest Sci-Fi News: ‘Doctor Who’s biggest star makes a comeback for season 14 as Kevin Feige bids farewell to MCU’s ‘best’

Doctor Who is embarking on a new golden age with the return of Russell T. Davies and David Tennant, but the duo shouldn’t be the only thing that gets your blood pumping for the upcoming 60th anniversary special and beyond.

Meanwhile, Kevin Feige is heaping praise on an outgoing MCU star a few days ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘s worldwide premiere, further affirming that this is the end for one of the people in the Benatar crew.

Latest Marvel News: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’s sole flaw boosts DCU as an Emmy nominee soothes major ‘Fantastic Four’ casting misfire

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 just days away, you would presume that all chatter would be about the intergalactic bunch of heroes embarking on their last mission. But nope. When you are in MCU land, you should be braced for debates, arguments, casting news, some tameable and some not-so-tameable misfires setting it on renewed fire out of the blue. And to this eclectic mix, also add DCU’s biggest superhero surprisingly getting side promotion thanks to Vol. 3’s only disappointment.

While the production of Fantastic Four is still months away, casting rumors never really died and have been blessed with a fresh drama, if reports of Mila Kunia being cast as The Thing is any proof. The news riled up an already-on-edge-since-Quantumania fandom as they thrashed the possibility. Is it because they mind the gender-swapping? Evidently not, as they only want the actress they have already chosen to play the part in case Marvel is planning to go down this road.

Latest Fantasy News: New ‘Lord of the Rings’ movie set to debut this summer as ‘Stranger Things’ writer hints at worrying final season inspiration

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Warner Bros. announced they’re partnering up with New Line Cinema and Embracer Group to develop new Lord of the Rings movies, but the first spinoff in their new lineup, The War of the Rohirrim, is already being prepared for a showcase at The Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

In other news, Stranger Things showrunners tease fans with the work that’s still ongoing on the fifth and final season, even possibly hinting at a source of inspiration for the last few scripts.

With May 4 still days away, a fan-favorite trending has scared ‘Star Wars’ hearts assuming the worst

With May 4 still days away, a fan-favorite trending has scared ‘Star Wars’ hearts assuming the worst

Star Wars have been counting down to one of the most iconic days in fandom history, a day each year when Jedis, Stormtroopers, Droids, and Clones all come together to honor the subculture of entertainment that feels like home, even if it is lightyears away. An iconic phrase in the Star Wars fandom is responsible for this honorary day of celebration, and it’s also a greeting you can share with your friends and loved ones.

So when a Star Wars legend began trending on April 29 instead of the upcoming day of commemoration, fans were a bit concerned. James Earl Jones isn’t just a legend in the intergalactic community, he’s an icon in the entertainment realm as a whole, and we weren’t expecting to see the Darth Vader trending until May 4; you know — for May the 4th Be With You, and all.

‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ star hints to expect the unexpected from their change in direction

With Gamora and Peter’s love story getting a second chance, the entire crew fighting one last fight (and possibly dying together), and James Gunn’s bidding farewell to Marvel, how could the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 not turn out to be an absolute wonder? Well, there is a wildcard in the mix — the alternate Gamora who, as explained by Zoe Saldaña, is nothing like the one Star-Lord and the fandom fell in love with.

Going against the MCU’s secret recipe for movies is what Gunn excels in and evidently, breaking his own themes is a part of his procedure (which inadvertently also involves hyping his DCU run with the only flaw in his last Marvel film).

Latest DC News: James Gunn has a lot to say about the DCEU ahead of ‘Guardians’ premier as Gal Gadot is confirmed to be a real life Amazon

If there was anything that those in charge of the DCU got right, it was their stellar casting choices. There’s no denying that Gal Gadot was always the perfect choice for Diana Prince. Beyond her spot-on appearance, the actor has proven herself to be just as tough as her character, managing to flawlessly embody the Amazon just two months after giving birth to her third child.

James Gunn has been making the rounds for Guardians of the Galaxy and the director’s mind is clearly already future-forward. During his frequent interviews he’s dropped several hints about what he sees for the future of DC — and if his contributions to the ‘verse are anything like his consistent success with Guardians — the DCEU is in very good hands. It seems he’s already convinced one of his Guardians actors to jump the Marvel ship and come with him to the DCEU, and we are very much here for the poached talent.

‘Stranger Things’ star Joseph Quinn joins cast of ‘Gladiator 2’

Joseph Quinn of Stranger Things is reportedly in talks to join the cast of the upcoming Gladiator sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor — known best for his portrayal of Eddie Munson in the fourth season of Stranger Things — will play the role of Roman Emperor, Caracalla. The Ridley Scott-directed project will serve as a follow up to the 2000 iteration of Gladiator, which starred Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix as a former general-turned gladiator and emperor of Rome, respectively.

Per Variety, Quinn joins the sequel alongside Gladiator alum Connie Nielsen, who will reportedly reprise her role as Phoenix’s sister, Lucilla. Both actors will star alongside the sequel’s already announced cast of Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Barry Keoghan, the last of whom will reportedly portray Emperor Geta. It is said that Gladiator 2 will centre on Lucilla’s son Lucius (played by Mescal), though details around what role Washington will take on have been kept under wraps.

‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ gets eaten by crocodiles as ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3′ magically fixes one of Disney’s biggest problems

What a week… From suing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to finally giving The Little Mermaid fans a sneak peek at Flounder (spoiler: it did not go over well), it’s safe to say the House of Mouse is in need of a break. While we’d love to toss the entertainment behemoth a block of cheese and call it a day, unfortunately, that’s not how news works; alas, there is more afloat.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania now has its Disney Plus release date, Chris Pine charmed the pants off of us as King Magnifico in the latest Wish trailer, and fans have swum to the surface to defend Flounder’s honor after previously fileting him for looking like a corpse. All good news, yes — but that’s where it ends.

A 20 year-old ‘Lord of the Rings’ detail being finally noticed makes is making grown men cry

If you were looking for a Lord of the Rings meme to spice up your Friday, then you’ve come to the right place. One Middle Earth mainstay took to Reddit to express a fan theory that has been seemingly overlooked for over 20 years. More than that, the darker ramifications of a concept like that have left LoTR fans holding back tears.

If you needed a quick refresher on Peter Jackson’s epic saga: At the end of The Return of the King, after Frodo and Sam have destroyed the ring, Smeagol/Gollum has died, and all hope seems lost for our wayward heroes — the Great Eagles arrive to save the day, and shepherd the little Hobbits away from danger. Except now, the fact that three Eagles showed up makes more sense.

Damon Lindelof says he didn’t leave his struck down ‘Star Wars’ project by choice

There are certainly times in that galaxy far, far away where things don’t go according to plan. Whether it’s a blown up Death Star, chopped off appendage, or droid attack on the Wookiees — there’s no telling how things are going to go when a Star Wars story is set in motion.

In the case of Lost and The Leftovers creator Damon Lindelof, that unexpected nature of Disney’s billion dollar franchise seems to be the exact reason behind his exodus from future projects. In an interview with Esquire, Lindelof briefly shed light on whether or not his time at Lucasfilm had come to an end.

Disney’s reimagining of Peter Pan & Wendy is now available to stream on Disney Plus; however, one glance at the movie’s poster or trailer will tell you this is not like any other Peter Pan movie you’ve seen before.

The movie’s sheer level of deviation from its predecessors has caused a commotion among moviegoers (or just anyone who happens to spot a clip from the trailer) and thus has sparked a debate about whether the film is “woke.”

An R-rated ‘Christopher Robin’ series is on the way, because ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’ wasn’t enough

Did you watch Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and think, “yeah this is fine, but where’s Christopher Robin?” No? Well, it doesn’t matter, because that’s what you’re getting. And not playful Christopher either, we’re getting “quarter-life crisis” Christopher Robin who has animal friends “who live in a drug-induced portal” outside of his “derelict apartment complex.” Doesn’t that sound fun?

The movie will be a live-action/animation hybrid, and will probably look something like the hallucinations Black Noir suffers from in the hit Amazon show The Boys. The movie is being developed by Boat Rocker Studios, per Variety.

The fate of ‘Dune: Part Two’ hangs on Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet convincing us they’re in love

We’ve now officially entered the press cycle for the upcoming Dune: Part Two, and early reports are saying that in order for it to succeed, we need to believe in the love story between Timothée Chalamet‘s Paul Atreides and Zendaya‘s Chani.

In a deep-dive from Vanity Fair, Zendaya, Chalamet, and director Denis Villeneuve broke down what it would take for the movie to work. The crux of the movie, Villeneuve said, is to not only invest the audience in Paul’s quest to avenge his father but also Chani’s desire to make sure her homeworld is protected.

James Gunn discusses ‘the sweetest part of filmmaking’ ahead of ‘Guardians Vol. 3’ L.A. premiere

James Gunn discusses ‘the sweetest part of filmmaking’ ahead of ‘Guardians Vol. 3’ L.A. premiere

James Gunn has a lot to look forward to as the new DCU boss, but saying goodbye to the Guardians of the Galaxy, which essentially kickstarted his superhero career, must be giving him a bit of heartache.

It has been a long journey for Gunn and the Guardians, but it’s all coming to a conclusion in the third movie of the saga. The MCU has also made it no secret that the threequel will bring an end to this trilogy, and though some survivors might continue to appear in future movies — like the two planned Avengers sequels — this is goodbye as far as some of them are concerned, namely Dave Bautista’s Drax the Destroyer and Zoe Saldaña’s Gamora.

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s Disney Plus debut dooms a future MCU project

‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s Disney Plus debut dooms a future MCU project

When Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania opted for a digital release like that of Avatar: The Way of Water, it wasn’t too far-fetched to guess that the ongoing Jonathon Majors controversy was the reason. But even though the date of its release on Disney Plus has been finally unveiled — which is a big victory, as it one-ups an Oscar-winning film in the process — all it does is further highlight the dire state of the MCU and the fact that a future project has way, way too much on its shoulders.

It would be redundant to point out how much the franchise has been struggling to conjure even a sliver of the pre-Endgame trust the fandom had in its projects. The over-inflation of Phase Four, the initiation of mediocre superheroes, cliched plotlines, or debuting disappointing villains didn’t exactly help the Marvel universe, which was already up against itself after the exceptional success that was Phase Three and its conclusion.
