Elton John Blasts Distributor For Cutting Rocketman’s Homosexual Content

If the 2018 music biopic genre belonged to Rami Malek and the crazy popular Bohemian Rhapsody, then 2019 is without a doubt all about another legendary icon – Sir Elton John.

He’s the focus of the new film Rocketman, in which Taron Egerton, star of Kingsman and the underwhelming Robin Hood movie, embodies the beloved musician and brings him to life perfectly – from the star-spangled costumes down to his beloved singing voice.

Of course, another big selling point about the film – aside from Egerton’s stunning performance – is the R-rating, which allows Rocketman to be raunchier and a lot more mature than your average music biopic. It’s much more open about Elton’s sexuality and drug usage, too – one of the biggest detriments of Bohemian Rhapsody – which in turn adds another layer of faithfulness to the story. But it seems that some distributors aren’t quite alright with everything that’s shown in the movie.

Central Partnership, the Russian distributor for Rocketman, has removed all of the scenes depicting drug use and homosexual content. This was done in an effort to “conform with the Russian Federation’s legislation against homosexual propaganda,” and understandably, it’s ruffled a few feathers.

John, in particular, has taken issue with it, blasting the distributor for what they did via a statement released by his team earlier today.

“We reject in the strongest possible terms the decision to pander to local laws and censor Rocketman for the Russian market, a move we were unaware of until today. Paramount Pictures have been brave and bold partners in allowing us to create a film which is a true representation of Elton’s extraordinary life, warts and all.

That the local distributor has edited out certain scenes, denying the audience the opportunity to see the film as it was intended is a sad reflection of the divided world we still live in and how it can still be so cruelly unaccepting of the love between two people. We believe in building bridges and open dialogue, and will continue to push for the breaking down of barriers until all people are heard equally across the world.”

Paramount, meanwhile, chimed in as well, saying:

“We are incredibly proud of the movie that we made, which is told in the way that Elton John wanted his story to be depicted. We are releasing the film in its entirety around the world regardless of rating, but like all studios, we must adhere to local laws and requirements in certain territories in which the film is being shown.”

All fair points, and while it’s a shame that some territories feel the need to censor the movie and not show it as it’s intended to be shown to audiences, like Paramount says, they need to adhere to the local laws.

Thankfully, though, here in North America and most major markets, Rocketman is being released into theaters in all its glory, and while reviews have been a little mixed thus far, the general consensus is that it’s a well made biopic with a strong central performance and some incredible musical numbers that’ll keep audiences entertained throughout.

Cancelled X-Men Movie Would’ve Featured Fantastic Four And Deadpool

Cancelled X-Men Movie Would’ve Featured Fantastic Four And Deadpool

We’re now at the tail-end of the era of Fox’s Marvel movies, as the recent Disney deal means that Marvel Studios has hoovered up the rights to their comic book characters. As we await Dark Phoenix, though, it’s worth reflecting on an epic crossover of Fox’s Marvel properties that could’ve been at the start of the decade. Apparently, the studio was planning to do an Avengers of their own, featuring the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Deadpool and Daredevil!

Speaking with Kevin Smith on his Fatman Beyond podcast, X-Men: First Class screenwriter Zack Stentz revealed that he and former writing partner Ashley Edward Miller penned a script for an abandoned movie that would’ve reunited every major Marvel character Fox had access to at the time. It sounds like he’s still restricted from saying too much, but he did comment that Bourne director Paul Greengrass was attached and it could’ve been “really good.”

“My ex-partner and I, when we were working at Fox and we were working on X-Men: First Class, we did a secret movie for them that, I can’t tell you what the plot was, but I can tell you that it used all of the characters, all of the Marvel characters that Fox had at the time in 2011. It used the X-Men. It used the Fantastic Four. It used Daredevil. It used Deadpool. Daredevil was still at Fox at the time. We almost had Paul Greengrass directing it which would’ve been so cool but he had another project to do instead. It didn’t end up going but it was a script I was really proud of and it would’ve been really good.”

As this was back in 2011, let’s take a moment to work out what this jaw-dropping cast would’ve looked like. Presumably, it would’ve brought back the team from First Class, especially considering Stentz’s involvement. Rise of the Silver Surfer was only four years before, too, so it may have also brought back the original Fantastic Four cast – though Chris Evans had just signed up as Captain America. As for Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds had been attached to that role since 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so it probably would’ve been him.

Daredevil’s an interesting one, though, as Ben Affleck’s movie was back in 2003, so Fox would no doubt have found a fresh actor to play Matt Murdock. As the studio didn’t end up reusing the character, Marvel got the rights back and gave us Netflix’s Daredevil. In a world where this crossover film was made, though, they likely would’ve kept hold of the hero.

While this didn’t happen, all of these characters will soon be able to interact with each other under the umbrella of the MCU once Kevin Feige sets about folding Fox’s properties into the franchise. In the meantime, Dark Phoenix brings the original X-Men saga to a close on June 7th.

Robin Will Reportedly Feature In Matt Reeves’ The Batman

Robin Will Reportedly Feature In Matt Reeves’ The Batman

At last, Robert Pattinson was officially announced as the new Batman today, meaning that Matt Reeves’ upcoming reboot of the Dark Knight’s big screen adventures is finally on the go. Alongside that news though, we might’ve also learned that Pattinson’s hero won’t be saving Gotham all by his lonesome but may be about to form a dynamic duo with Robin.

Forbes reports that the Boy Wonder could “potentially” play a role in The Batman, with a casting announcement said to be coming soon. When it’ll arrive, we can’t say for sure, but while Batman and Robin are traditionally inseparable in the comics, in the movies, it’s a different story.

Only four of the ten Batman solo films released so far have featured Dick Grayson’s sidekick. And one of those is Michael Cera’s turn in The LEGO Batman Movie. Another, meanwhile, is Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s “Robin” John Blake from The Dark Knight Rises, who hardly counts, while the two other are obviously Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, starring Chris O’Donnell.

It’s worth mentioning that Forbes doesn’t specify that Reeves will use the Grayson iteration of the character, so other Robins like Tim Drake, Jason Todd or even Damian Wayne could stand a chance of getting their due. However, seeing as the film is set to explore the Bat’s earlier years, it stands to reason that it would include the original Robin.

Forbes also adds that the Riddler is likely to appear as one of The Batman‘s six villains, alongside the previously confirmed Penguin and Catwoman. This corroborates intel that We Got This Covered previously shared about Edward Nygma serving as the tertiary antagonist of the movie. Again, though, no casting was mentioned in regards to the role.

Though Warner Bros. has yet to officially announce any of this, it certainly makes sense that Reeves would want to establish so many key characters from the Bat-mythos, as he’s hoping to turn The Batman into a trilogy. As long as he doesn’t overstuff the film with too many familiar faces, he should be fine and as soon as we hear who he may be eyeing for the Dark Knight’s sidekick, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Fantastic Four Producer Thinks Marvel’s Reboot Will Be A Masterpiece

Fantastic Four Producer Thinks Marvel’s Reboot Will Be A Masterpiece

For the guy who produced the abysmal 2015 Fantastic Four reboot, Matthew Vaughn sure does have a bright outlook for the franchise’s future. Since he also helped bring us X-Men: First Class, if he has an idea that might give us the F4 we deserve, then by Thor, we need to hear the man out.

The producer, director, and writer of a very large amount of comic book movies recently sat down with CinemaBlend’s ReelBlend podcast and talked X-Men, Kingsman and Rocketman. One of those things do not belong, but I’ll let you figure out which one.

Anyways, Vaughn had some very cool things to say about the Fantastic Four and their future with Marvel, now that Disney has seemingly bought every studio in the universe.

“As the man that produced the last terrible Fantastic Four – and I will say that because I said it from day one, but no one listened to me — I think Fan Four is, for me, it’s the live action version of The Incredibles. It’s probably the most, I think, commercially viable Marvel Comic. Kevin Feige will get ahold of that and probably make a masterpiece.

He makes a great point. The Incredibles did so well that the second movie came out 14 years after the original and still pulled in almost $1.25 billion (yes, billion) at the worldwide box office. The super-fam premise is obviously well-loved and the faith Vaughn puts in Kevin Feige is spot-on, too. After all, what other film producer/studio president can say he’s made over $25 billion off of superheroes?

Vaughn also talks about the X-Men and Fantastic Four in the podcast, comparing the two and which would be the smart movie to make right now. He wisely chooses the latter, since fans have probably gotten more than their fix of the mutants by this point.

“And the X-Men world, I imagine that might get put on ice for a little bit. I think it needs a little bit of breathing room. They made a hell of a lot since First Class, if you think about it. Fan Four would be the thing I’d like to see them do next. Disney and Fan Four and Marvel is a really potent combination.”

With the new Disney/Marvel/Fox era in full swing, if the Fantastic Four family were brought to the big screen, there’s a really good chance moviegoers would finally love the hell out of it. We’ve already had three years to recover from the last F4 reboot, but what do you think? Can Kevin Feige deliver to us the film that we deserve? Let us know in the comments section down below.

Here’s Your Cheat Sheet For Fortnite Season 9 Week 4 Challenges

Here’s Your Cheat Sheet For Fortnite Season 9 Week 4 Challenges

Fortnite Season 9 is now in its fourth week of operation, meaning a slew of brand new challenges has arrived to test your knowledge of Battle Island. By now, hardcore players will likely be intimately familiar with new Points of Interest Neo Tilted and Mega Mall but even if you’re a fresh-faced newbie, fear not – there’s no shortage of resources to help you get acquainted with Fortnite‘s popular progression system.

As always, the challenges accompanying this reset are split down the middle between free and Battle Pass exclusive and, as luck would have it, the majority this week should be a walk in the park. Unlike Week 3, there are no skill-testing vehicular stunts or eliminations required this time around. Instead, Epic is requiring that you don your finest attire for a session or two of spontaneous dancing. Similarly to prior staged challenges, you’ll need to bust a move at several different locations before ticking this particular task off the list.

Fortunately, however, Fortnite Insider is on hand, as always, to provide a cheat sheet detailing exactly where you need to go. And you can check it out for yourself below:

As for the remainder of Week 4, landing at different locations after jumping from the Battle Bus are all self-explanatory and straightforward, as too, are weapon eliminations. Do note, however, that three of those kills must be achieved while wielding a Legendary weapon. Scarce as they are, there’s normally no guarantee you’ll find such lucrative gear in any given match, but there are methods available that drastically up your chances.

One of those is Loot Carriers. Introduced in the latest patch, these drones always carry loot of rare or higher quality and you’ll need to destroy at least three as part of a challenge regardless. If luck is on your side, it shouldn’t take long to kit yourself out in the best gear V-bucks can buy.

With that, we’ve about covered all the major talking points for Fortnite Season 9’s Week 4 challenges. Those wishing to peruse the entire list can do so below.

Free Challenges

  • Deal damage with Sniper Rifles to opponents
  • Staged Challenge: Dance at different locations
  • Legendary weapon eliminations

Battle Pass Challenges

  • Destroy a Loot Carrier in different matches
  • Staged Challenge: Land at different locations
  • Eliminate opponents in Haunted Hills or Dusty Divot
  • Visit different Named Locations in a single match

Matt Reeves’ The Batman Will Have No Ties To Previous DCEU Films

Matt Reeves’ The Batman Will Have No Ties To Previous DCEU Films

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is slated to start filming this fall. So it makes sense that we’re starting to get a whole lot of news about the upcoming project.

Most recently, we found out that Twilight star Robert Pattinson’s 100% confirmed to don the cape and cowl. When this decision was just a rumor, it sparked a massive internet controversy, which in turn quickly (and unsurprisingly) prompted an online petition to recast the role. So stay tuned for official outrage now that Pattinson’s expected to sign the dotted line here shortly.

But something else we’ve learned is that Reeves’ film will have absolutely no ties to the DCEU atrocities of the past. According to DeadlineThe Batman “will in no way carry on the work that Ben Affleck did as the older Batman in [Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice] and Justice League.”

This report’s in line with previous details we know about the movie’s plot, which will apparently be set in the ’90s, and the fact that the director’s been looking around for a younger caped crusader.

While there may be many people who’ll groan over the casting choice, just as many, if not more, will be pleased to hear that The Batman‘s disassociated with Zack Snyder’s movies. The two films were completely underwhelming both critically and at the box office – averaging a horrendous 33% combined on Rotten Tomatoes.

Again, we know the bare minimum as of now. So far, the names of Vanessa Hudgens, Josh Gad, Theo Rossi and Toby Kebbell have been tossed around the project, but nothing’s confirmed. Personally, I’m excited that Ralph Fiennes has expressed interest in the film. But we’ll have to wait and see what all happens once The Batman hits theaters June 25th, 2021.

Bond 25 Writer Says The Franchise Needs To Treat Women Properly

Bond 25 Writer Says The Franchise Needs To Treat Women Properly

News broke last month that Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) had been hired to spruce up the script for Bond 25, upon an invitation from Daniel Craig himself. Since then, we’ve heard that she’s been asked to strengthen the dialogue and the characters. In a new interview with Deadline, though, the writer/producer/actress explained in her own words how she’s contributing to Craig’s final outing as 007.

First of all, Waller-Bridge addressed an issue that’s surrounded the character of James Bond of late: the question of how he fits into a post-#MeToo world. She thinks Bond remains “absolutely relevant” so long as the films treat their female characters with respect – even if the super-spy himself doesn’t.

“There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not [the Bond franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women. I think that’s bollocks. I think he’s absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to this character.”

Waller-Bridge then added that she’s always been a fan of what Craig’s brought to the character since 2005’s Casino Royale, so that’s what she’s trying to honor with her rewrite of the script.

“When I saw his Bond for the first time, there was a wryness to his performance that I really loved. So, I was really excited about writing dialogue for him. I mean, the script was there. It’s already there. I think it’s unfair to say that I’m writing the script.”

Finally, Waller-Bridge is very keen to ensure that the women of the movie – Lea Seydoux, Lashana Lunch and Ana de Armas – each have something to work with and that their characters “feel like real people.”

“I just want to make sure that when they get those pages through, that Lashana, Léa and Ana open them and go, ‘I can’t wait to do that.’ As an actress, I very rarely had that feeling early in my career. That brings me much pleasure, knowing that I’m giving that to an actress.”

Production on Bond 25 has currently been put on hold after an accident during filming in Jamaica resulted in Daniel Craig attaining an ankle injury. Hopefully he’ll recover and get back in the saddle soon though so that the movie can still make its release date of April 8th, 2020.
