SnyderVerse Supporters Now Have To Renew Their HBO Max Subscriptions To See Mortal Kombat

SnyderVerse Supporters Now Have To Renew Their HBO Max Subscriptions To See Mortal Kombat

The Mortal Kombat reboot was recently hit with another delay, but it was a very minor one by the standards of the last twelve months. The martial arts fantasy actioner will now debut one week later than intended on April 23rd, in what was described as a move designed to give the freshly-released Godzilla vs. Kong time to breathe at the box office and on HBO Max.

However, the more cynical among us could view the decision as a way to get staunch supporters of Zack Snyder’s Justice League to renew their subscriptions. The massive amount of new customers who may’ve signed up to the platform specifically to see the Snyder Cut before watching it on repeat to support the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse movement would have had 48 hours to watch Mortal Kombat before the first month was up and they could cancel.

By shunting the video game adaptation back by a week, though, anyone that’s on the fence about whether or not to continue shelling out the monthly fee no longer has the option to check out Simon McQuoid’s feature debut before they need to make that decision. Either way, it’s been a hell of a few weeks for WarnerMedia’s in-house service with Justice League, Godzilla vs. Kong and Mortal Kombat all arriving within the space of 35 days.

The Snyder Cut has led to a 60% increase in viewership across HBO Max already, and it’ll be interesting to see if that level of growth continues as the four-hour DCEU epic finally gets replaced at the top of the pop culture totem pole, first by Godzilla vs. Kong and then Mortal Kombat, as Warner Bros.’ bold call to give all of their 2021 movies a hybrid release continues to reap the rewards both theatrically and on streaming.

Watch: Henry Cavill’s Superman Returns In Awesome Man Of Steel 2 Fan Trailer

Watch: Henry Cavill’s Superman Returns In Awesome Man Of Steel 2 Fan Trailer

Zack Snyder’s Justice League hasn’t closed the book on the SnyderVerse like Warner Bros. hoped. Instead it’s only made DCEU fans even hungrier for further films starring Snyder’s heroes. Most of all, another solo movie for Henry Cavill’s Superman is a must for many. With a reboot in the works, though, the British actor’s future in the franchise remains unclear. But this epic fan-made trailer allows us to imagine what a Man of Steel 2 could look like.

YouTuber Billster has created this trailer, and pretty much brought DCEU lovers’ dreams to life. This suggested sequel picks up after Superman’s resurrection in Justice League, with the Last Son of Krypton teaming up with Ben Affleck’s Batman to battle the Legion of Doom, including Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor and Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke. The trailer also imagines Metallo entering the fray. Check it out in the player above.

While fans are fighting to get more of Cavill’s Kal-El, WB looks intent on rebooting the Kryptonian mythos in the DCEU. Sasha Calle is playing Supergirl in The Flash movie, but it’s currently unclear whether she’s connected to Cavill or not. J.J. Abrams is also producing a new Superman movie, which is believed to star a Black version of the hero. This character is unlikely to be Clark Kent, so that does leave the door open for Cavill’s return, but the gap is getting narrower.

The good news for Cavill fans is that he reportedly has Dwayne Johnson fighting in his corner. The pair are good friends and the Rock is pushing for the chance to fight Cavill’s Supes in the Black Adam franchise. Johnson is said to have a lot of sway with the studio, too, so if anyone can save Superman, it’s him. In the meantime, we’ll settle for exciting fan trailers like this one that remind us how awesome a Man of Steel 2 would be.

The Internet Is Going Crazy For Godzilla Vs. Kong

The Internet Is Going Crazy For Godzilla Vs. Kong

International audiences got the chance to see Godzilla vs. Kong a week before their counterparts in the United States and Canada, and looking at the numbers, there are a whole lot of people who rushed out to watch the two iconic monsters engage in a battle for the ages. The latest chapter in the MonsterVerse scored an overseas opening weekend of $123 million, which is positively massive by the standards of the COVID-19 era.

Domestically, Adam Wingard’s mega budget creature feature is poised to smash all sorts of records now that it finally released nationwide today. It would comfortably be the biggest motion picture event of the year so far if if wasn’t for a little thing called Zack Snyder’s Justice League, but it can’t be stressed enough that Godzilla vs. Kong deserves to be seen on the largest screen possible.

Those still not convinced about heading down to their local multiplex can check it out from the comfort of their own homes thanks to the HBO Max hybrid debut, but whichever way it’s being consumed, the pic is all that anyone can seem to talk about today, as you can see from the reactions below.

It’s already the highest-rated MonsterVerse film on Rotten Tomatoes, and we gave it a hugely positive review of our own, while the critical acclaim could help propel Godzilla vs. Kong to serious box office heights. If you’re not on board with the concept, then it’s not the movie for you, but if you want the type of spectacle-driven blockbuster that’s been sorely missing from our lives over the last twelve months, then it should be appointment viewing whether it’s at the cinema or on HBO Max.

Amber Heard Hits Back At Johnny Depp In New Instagram Post

Amber Heard Hits Back At Johnny Depp In New Instagram Post

Amber Heard has taken a sly shot at ex-husband Johnny Depp in her latest Instagram post. The former couple’s ongoing legal problems grabbed the headlines again over the past week, as Depp’s appeal against the 2020 libel case that went in Heard’s favor was rejected. The Aquaman actress has now obliquely responded to the development on social media, by linking recent events to the start of her accusations against Depp.

Heard took to Instagram to share two photos, taken four years apart, of her wearing the same black dress. The first comes from May 2016, snapped as she exited court after Depp was ordered to stay away from her following her allegations of domestic abuse. The second was taken in July 2020, during the UK libel case that Depp just unsuccessfully tried to overturn. In her caption, the star wrote, “One dress, four years apart. Sometimes it’s important to wear the same thing twice,”

The intention of Heard’s post is clear. The UK courts’ continued dismissal of Depp’s case has let her feeling vindicated in her initial decision to publicly come forward with her alleged abuse at his hands. Obviously, it’s hard to miss all the backlash against the actress online from those who remain loyal to Depp and believe that her claims aren’t genuine, but legally, Heard is very much in the clear.

Depp is not giving up just yet, though, and is set to take his ex-wife back to court for a $50 million defamation lawsuit in the US next year. The duo’s trials aren’t over yet, then, but Heard and her representatives are likely feeling fairly confident about the 2022 case given how this one went. Likewise, Amber Heard‘s career is in a much better place right now. Though rumors have pointed otherwise, as far as we know, she’s due to reprise her role as Mera in Aquaman 2, which drops next summer.
