Fans say Ray Liotta’s swan song ‘Cocaine Bear’ destined for Oscar greatness

Fans say Ray Liotta’s swan song ‘Cocaine Bear’ destined for Oscar greatness

The world lost a national treasure earlier this year when the late, great Goodfellas actor Ray Liotta passed away. But his posthumous film, Cocaine Bear, is already getting a lot of buzz as a worthy swan song and maybe even an Oscar contender.

Cocaine Bear is the over-the-top dark comedy coming to theaters next year that focuses on a black bear who consumes cocaine and then goes on a rampage. It is inspired by a true story of a bear who ate 75 pounds of cocaine from a crashed drug runner’s plane in the forests of Georgia in 1985.

Complaints of ‘woke nonsense’ in ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ trailer get reasonably roasted

Complaints of ‘woke nonsense’ in ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ trailer get reasonably roasted

First it was Chris Pratt’s Mario, now it’s “woke nonsense.” Twitter finds a fault in everything, whether it be deserving of the criticism or not. Following the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie official trailer, fans were in awe of the character designs, world-building and stand-out voice performances from the likes of Jack Black and Anya Taylor-Joy. There were heaps of references to the Super Mario game series, including the inclusion of the Mushroom Kingdom, Warp Pipes, Tanooki Mario and the Fire Flowers. However, it wasn’t any of these things that amped up the nostalgia more than the Mario Kart reference.

In the final seconds of the trailer, we see Mario — driving his four-wheel kart — land on a model of Rainbow Road, the infamous Mario Kart level (notorious for being one of the most difficult), accompanied by the likes of Peach, Toad, Donkey Kong and others. It’s a minor moment in the grand scheme of the trailer, which offers a lot for audiences to unpack, but it’s still managed to get the internet talking. Specifically, it led to one Twitter user — whether it be a joke or not — complaining about the “woke pride flag nonsense” that Rainbow Road represents. Yeah…

A husband-and-wife duo’s ludicrously deranged horror sensation is already destined for cult status

A husband-and-wife duo’s ludicrously deranged horror sensation is already destined for cult status

People tend to formulate an opinion that the sanctity of marriage creates familiarity with one’s existence, leading to a state of formulaic domestic bliss that pumps the brakes on such trivialities as passion and creativity. Evidently, nobody bothered to tell Deadstream creators Vanessa and Joseph Winter.

Putting their heads together, the husband-and-wife duo co-wrote, co-directed, co-produced, and co-edited the found footage horror sensation, with Joseph also composing the score and playing the lead role of Shawn. Already dubbed “Evil Dead II for Gen Z,” the ludicrous blend of gross-out gore, jump scares, and belly laughs has been heralded as an instant cult classic, and it’s not a sentiment anyone on a recent Reddit thread is ready to disagree with.

Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Red One’ sounds like it’s going to be messy, and not in a good way

Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Red One’ sounds like it’s going to be messy, and not in a good way

David Harbour’s Violent Night may have been winning rave reviews out of the gate, and may yet give the leading man the gift of a “sexy daddies” cinematic universe, but an even bigger star is in the midst of shooting an even bigger festive action movie, with Dwayne Johnson’s Red One currently in front of cameras.

It can’t be denied that The Rock is perhaps the biggest and most popular on-camera talent in the industry, but his track record with critics pales in comparison to how audiences feel about his filmography. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, nor does he care in the slightest given that he’s been so open about making movies for the fans first and foremost, but Red One sounds like an overstuffed mess waiting to happen.

J.K. Rowling forgets ‘Harry Potter’ lore, leaving concerns for future sequels at HBO Max

Harry Potter seems to be in for an inevitable comeback if Warner Bros. has anything to say on the matter, but its creator J.K. Rowling might not have as strong a creative grip on the franchise as she once did.

The best-selling novelist is infamous these days for a very different reason, but even before setting her career prospects on fire with insensitive comments toward the LGBTQ+ community, Rowling would provoke the ire of Potterheads by constantly changing established Harry Potter lore on social media, of all places.

Latest Marvel News: James Gunn can’t stop biting back at the trolls as a forgotten Marvel trailblazer passes away

There’s sad news in the world of Marvel today, with an overlooked trailblazer who turned an iconic superhero into the star of a live-action feature film for the very first time passing away.

Positivity abounds elsewhere, though, with James Gunn luxuriating in his latest unexpected addition to the cinematic universe’s official canon, with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special continuing to invite takes of both a wholesome, spicy, and questionable nature across the wild and wonderful world of social media.

Latest Fantasy News: The next ‘Witcher’ spinoff reportedly revealed as fans realize Daemon’s actor from ‘House of the Dragon’ isn’t like his character at all

Even despite the fact that the main show on Netflix is standing on the precipice with Henry Cavill’s departure, The Witcher world is only expanding its horizons with more spinoffs, the latest of which is going to depict an unlikely gang of rogues trying to make their way in the volatile landscape of the Continent.

In other parts of the fantasy community, House of the Dragons fans have only just realized all over again that Matt Smith is the spitting opposite of the character he portrays on the show. If anything, the man just gives off a vibe that reminds us of the Raggedy Eleventh Doctor, so maybe even now, he subconsciously remains an ambassador for the show that made his name all those years ago.

Hugh Jackman reveals the iconic movie role he turned down for Wolverine

Hugh Jackman reveals the iconic movie role he turned down for Wolverine

The role of James Bond is one of the most iconic in cinema history, with the constant discussion around who will take on the mantle next seems to keep many entertained for years. Hugh Jackman was also once considered for the role before it was taken by Daniel Craig, though the Australian actor wasn’t exactly jumping at the chance.

The offer was put to Jackman in his early heyday playing the now iconic character of Wolverine. Under Jackson’s magnificent performances as the character, the clawed mutant has become almost as big an action star as 007, arguably more so in the eyes of many Marvel fans. It makes sense then, that having watched him play that character, audiences and casting directors could see him in the role of James Bond. Despite having the option to play two of the world’s biggest action stars at once, Jackson felt that this wasn’t the route for him.

‘Disney character turned slasher villain’ horror film fatigue is already setting in

We’ve had movies, animated films, and cinema more broadly in our lives for roughly a century now.

Now that copyright is expiring on the earliest works across these mediums and they become a part of Creative Commons, we’re slowly and surely seeing more and more once-upon-a-time innocent children’s stories getting adapted into tried and true nightmare fuel. Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, and Bambi have all fallen victim to it so far.

DC defenders try and make sense of a confusing twist from Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’

When a director does something or fans successfully whine and complain, they can get a new version of something old and will discuss it for all eternity. Zack Snyder’s Justice League is in this category and, at the back end of 2022, people still do not get one aspect of it.

For those unaware and who may have wisely stayed off of the internet for the last decade, this take on the 2017 critical and commercial failure features a number of points that weren’t included in the theatrical cut.

Right now, James Gunn has a tough task ahead of him. After his time in the MCU comes to a close for the foreseeable future, he will be steering the DCU in a new direction beyond its chaotic past and present. Several people have ideas, some things are uncertain and, for fans, there are a number of hopes for just what exactly the white-haired wonder will end up authorizing.

A new post on Reddit — sporting images of Green Arrow, Booster Gold, Static Shock, Zatanna, and Nightwing — invites fans to explain what they would greenlight first if they were Gunn, and it’s burning up. While there are those in support of and in opposition to each, one user argues Gunn will pull a misdirection with any new content.

A cynical festive favorite that required assistance from the CIA spreads malicious cheer all over streaming

A cynical festive favorite that required assistance from the CIA spreads malicious cheer all over streaming

Whenever the CIA lends its expertise to a film or television production, there’s a 99 percent likelihood that the project in question requires intimate knowledge of how the organization works, or there are technical advisors ensuring the filmmakers keep things as realistic as possible. That extra one percent is there for a reason, though, which is where How the Grinch Stole Christmas comes in.

Star Jim Carrey came perilously close to quitting the festive blockbuster due to the rigors of getting in and out of costume, which could often take up to eight and a half hours given the voluminous amounts of makeup and prosthetics required. To combat the soul-crushing experience, a CIA veteran with experience of teaching people to survive torture was brought in to lend the actor a helping hand, which is every bit as bonkers as it sounds.

Review: ‘Disenchanted’ is not the sequel that we wanted, but it’s there

Disney isn’t afraid to ask “what happens after happily ever after?”. The studio has been doing it for more than two decades with other fairytales such as Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen, just to name a few. So when Disney announced that it would be releasing Disenchanted, a sequel to the 2007 film Enchanted, some fans wondered if this was necessary, especially since the opener was released 15 years ago. But in the end, it’s here and available to stream on Disney Plus.

Disenchanted is a Disney film about life after happily ever after, and how it’s not as we expected it to be. It starts with Pip the Chipmunk giving a recap of Enchanted to his two children. They asked for more, so he told them the story of Disenchanted, a tale about life after the events of the original.

DC boss James Gunn offers impatient fans a reminder you can’t fix a broken franchise in 3 weeks

It was a bold move for James Gunn to take his first step onto the corporate ladder by agreeing to take over DC Studios as co-CEO alongside Peter Safran, because the franchise has been on a shaky nail for a long time.

That’s not to say it’s ever come close to imploding and being discarded entirely, but there’s been so many stops and starts, canceled and abandoned projects, in-fighting, social media vitriol, and warring factions both in the boardroom and on the internet that it was beginning to feel like nobody wanted the job in the first place after the search for DC’s own Kevin Feige figure dragged on and on and on.

Latest Fantasy News: ‘Stranger Things’ fans come up with a perfect series ending as ‘The Rings of Power’ finds more acclaim on the internet

Stranger Things fans are, for lack of a better word, twiddling their thumbs until the fifth and final season concludes this ambitious story somewhere down the line. As with every other beloved franchise out there that not necessarily overstays its welcome, the Strangers also have a few ideas about the ultimate resolution, and it doesn’t necessarily bode well for the main heroine.

Meanwhile, House of the Dragon fans have just realized that its creator, George R.R. Martin, is actually encouraging folks to pick sides in the Greens vs. Blacks conflict, though for him, this has more to do with understanding the nuances of history’s conflicted narrative rather than feeding the furnaces of endless social media debates. If that conveniently happens to bolster the story’s reputation, well, we’re just going to have to accept that side effect.

Latest Marvel News: A dream ‘Star Wars’ cameo turns out to be a lie as hopes for ‘Wakanda Forever’s best spinoff are destroyed

Off the back of the festive high we received yesterday thanks to the debut of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, today’s biggest Marvel news stories have brought us back down to Earth with a bump as some unfortunate updates have come our way that will leave fans disappointed. It turns out what would’ve been a perfect cameo has turned out to be a lie while everyone’s ideal Wakanda Forever spinoff has been confirmed to never happen. Let’s proceed…

We finally know if that’s actually Mark Hamill in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

Well, that was fun while it lasted. For a hot minute there, MCU fans were convinced that none other than Mark Hamill turned up in the Guardians Holiday Special for a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo as a boozy Santa Claus. This would’ve been both the perfect callback to the Star Wars Holiday Special and the culmination of many years of James Gunn and Hamill teasing they want to work together. As it happens, though, the guy in question is definitely not Luke Skywalker, as revealed by those in the know.
