Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Trailer May Hint That Rey’s Now A Jedi Master

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Trailer May Hint That Rey’s Now A Jedi Master

If comments last year from John Boyega are anything to go by, then the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker should feature a one-year time-jump from the events of The Last Jedi. If so, then we can expect the remaining members of the Resistance to have undergone a few changes by the time we see them next, and according to a new theory from ScreenRant, the young Rey may have even used the time between episodes to graduate to the status of Jedi Master.

The theory stems largely from a single shot from the recent Rise of Skywalker trailer in which the heroine is seen training in a forest. As Rey reaches to catch her lightsaber, you’ll notice that she’s wearing a red sash on her left hand.

Now, for all we know, it’s quite possible that this accessory is purely decorative. Then again, it’s perhaps worth noting that a red sash is also used in real world “lightsaber” training academies as a symbol of mastery in the use of weapons. You therefore have to wonder if J.J. Abrams has granted the sash a similar significance in the franchise canon.

Of course, this is all just speculation for the time being, but even if Rey’s red sash carries no such meaning, there’s still a very good chance that the heroine will achieve Master status by the end of her next film. After all, Rey has always shown herself to be a fast learner, and it’s practically a given that the Sequel Trilogy finale will find a way of concluding her arc as a Jedi in training.

In any case, we’ll find out what’s really in store for Daisy Ridley’s character when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20th.

Joker Received An 8 Minute Standing Ovation At Venice Film Festival

Joker Received An 8 Minute Standing Ovation At Venice Film Festival

The buzz surrounding Joker is already pointing to it being one of the most imaginative comic book movies ever seen, as well as a dark exploration of the character. This reception was boosted today by an eight-minute standing ovation for the pic’s premiere at the Venice Film Festival, with stars Joaquin Phoenix and Zazie Beetz, and director Todd Phillips, on hand to answer questions at the event.

Speaking about his ambitions for Joker, Phillips had the following to say to the crowd:

“Why can’t you do a genre comic-book film like that? We thought this could be an exciting approach to this genre. I’m not sure what it means for DC or Marvel … It was a hard movie for us to get made, to convince DC and the studio at first, but we thought we would keep pushing because we thought it would be special.”

Although the director has already admitted that Phoenix’s Joker will eventually be rebooted, it seems that Phillips has pulled off the feat of infusing a familiar character with a style and moral complexity that’s rarely seen in a major studio film. Furthermore, he’s cited at Venice the extent to which Joker is indebted to both Martin Scorsese’s work and silent landmarks such as The Man Who Laughs. How much this take on the Clown Prince of Crime will be sustained into future DC films is hard to say at the moment though, with some theories suggesting that this may not be the final version of the character.

In any case, we’re very excited to see what all the fuss is about when Joker hits theaters this October 4th. If some of the early reviews and the reactions at the Venice festival are accurate, then we could be seeing not only a great comic book movie, but one of the best films of the year. Not to mention an Oscar nomination for Phoenix to boot.

Dave Bautista Says He Would Do Anything For A Drax Solo Movie

Dave Bautista Says He Would Do Anything For A Drax Solo Movie

Dave Bautista wants a Drax solo movie so much that he’d do anything to get it made. That includes giving up the role to a bigger star.

The Guardians of the Galaxy actor responded to a fan on Twitter who mourned the lack of a Drax and Hulk team-up or a proper Drax vs. Thanos moment in Avengers: EndgameBautista made clear that he also feels that there’s so much more to be explored with the Destroyer that he should be given his own movie. And it doesn’t even have to be him playing the lead role.

Before you get worried, though, Bautista went on to clarify that he’s not planning on handing over the role of Drax to anyone else. It’s just that he believes Marvel would “make the movie with someone else” and he’s so keen to see a film based on the character made that he’d be “happy to step aside” if it came to it. He even joked that “a white guy named Chris” would probably be his replacement.

From Bautista’s comments, we can presumably infer that he’s pitched the idea of a Drax-centric effort to Marvel but they’re not interested. Maybe the project could work better as a Disney Plus series instead? After all, many heroes who’ve never had standalone films are getting their own shows on the streaming service – see WandaVision, Hawkeye and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

There’s currently not anything on the slate that spins off from the Guardians corner of the MCU, so a Drax series could fill that void perfectly. It’d also be a great opportunity to let Bautista stretch his dramatic muscles. The character’s become increasingly comical over the movies, which the actor is great at, but there’s a lot of tragedy and darkness in him as well. Bautista seems keen to explore that and I’m sure the fans would be interested, too.

In any case, we’ll next see the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 whenever that finally gets here. But would you like to get a Drax movie or some kind of solo project after that? Have your say in the comments section down below.
