Isn’t Tom Holland such a cutie? I wanna just eat him up, which, according to my doctors, would be bad for my already skyrocketing cholesterol. Maybe he’ll help me squeeze some cardio in next weekend after Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters and get my heart pumping. Or, perhaps I can use my fully-charged aortic valves to send some cardiac healing Tom’s way, as he recently experienced a true, genuine heartbreak.
I’m kidding; he recently made a joke about Gwyneth Paltrow forgetting her minor role in Spider-Man: Homecoming. During a round of Ultimate Spider-Man Trivia with the people over at POPSUGAR, Tom, sitting with co-stars Zendaya (MJ) and Jacob Batalon (Ned), cracked up while saying that her not remembering her bit part in the first MCU Spider-film “broke his heart,” barely able to get the sentence out through his laughter. He then says, in her defense, that they did only work together once, which he then corrects:
“No, actually no, that’s not true. One time when we were shooting Avengers…Infinity War? No, Endgame. She was in her blue suit, and I was in my Spider-Man suit, and she came up and she asked me for a photo with me and Robert. And I think she posted it and she said, ‘Robert Downey Jr. and myself and this guy.’ I was just the guy. It was cute.”
Ya can’t really blame Ms. Paltrow for forgetting that she was in Homecoming, considering her character has one or two lines in the scene, and that it might have been an intro to Infinity War given the context of the situation. Plus, she’s got all that GOOP to sell! I think Tom played it off like the silly little nothing that it is, wringing a few laughs out of the situation. If he was some punk new star on the block with a poor attitude, this might have been a negative, tabloid-y story.
Thankfully, Tom Holland is a gift from the heavens above us. Hearing his actual British accent is still jarring, but also kind of intriguing. Did you hear about him saving that girl from a mob of photographers the other day? Yep, he’s Spider-Man in real life, too. All the more reason to check out his fictional antics in Spider-Man: Far From Home, where he’ll finally fight Mysterio! Hopefully. I haven’t seen it yet, but our own Matt Donato has.
