Playstation Hits Range Just Added Some Great Horror Games

Sony has announced that they’re bolstering their PlayStation Hits range with some truly excellent titles. Of note to horror fans will be the pants-wettingly terrifying Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Friday the 13th: The Game

In addition to those offerings, Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition, God of War III Remastered, Nioh, Tales of Berseria and Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2 will also be permanently discounted to $19.99, both on the PlayStation store and physical editions (which can be distinguished by a red Playstation Hits banner).

I’ve been an enormous Resident Evil fan since the 90s, so when I heard that the seventh entry in the franchise was going to be a first person game, I was naturally suspicious. Not to mention that this seemed almost to be a soft reboot, shedding the silly but entertaining lore that’s built up over many titles and years.

So imagine my surprise when Resident Evil 7 quickly proved to be my favorite title to date. I put this solely down to playing the entire game through PlayStation VR, which made it an experience so completely terrifying that I had to take breaks every 20 minutes or so to remind myself that there wasn’t actually a shovel-wielding mutant psychopath out to get me. At $19.99, it’s a snip if you haven’t already played it, and if you’ve got PSVR it’s a no-brainer.

Conversely, Friday the 13th: The Game is a more difficult sell. I really enjoyed the game, but it’s been the victim of the ongoing legal dispute as to who owns the franchise rights. The lack of a resolution resulted in developer Gun Media curtailing their DLC plans and the player base has gradually dwindled since then. Plus, the title was relatively recently given out for free to PlayStation Plus subscribers, meaning you may already have it in your library.

Of the others, the complete edition of Horizon Zero Dawn is also an excellent bargain at this price. With the summer video games sales having kicked off in earnest and featuring many good deals, the only real question is where are we going to find the time to play all these titles?
