Watch: ‘Halo’ teaser released ahead of tomorrow’s full-length trailer

Watch: ‘Halo’ teaser released ahead of tomorrow’s full-length trailer

Paramount Pictures has promised fans a full-length trailer for the upcoming television adaptation of Halo at the AFC Championship Game tomorrow, but for those of us who can’t possibly wait any longer to see Master Chief in live-action in all his glory, this newly released teaser shows off a monumental military TV show in the making.

In the age of streaming, where numerous platforms are competing with one another to output content, the existence of a high-budget Halo adaptation is not as far-fetched as some might assume. But a decade ago when that wasn’t the case is a completely different story. In fact, if there’d been any scuttlebutt about such a project back then, most fans of the long-running science-fiction FPS video game franchise would laugh at your face.

The 10 most underrated PS Vita Games

The 10 most underrated PS Vita Games

The PlayStation Vita had a great lineup of video games for a handheld system that only lasted 10 years. Due to its short life span, it’s easy for fans to forget some of the best games the console had to offer when discussing their favorites.

Maybe it’s because the successor to the PSP was lacking in PlayStation originals. Maybe it’s because most of the catalogue was already available somewhere else. Whatever the reason, no one can dispute when you include all ports, originals, and PlayStation backward compatible titles that the PS Vita really had an amazing collection of games on offer.

Review: ‘Rainbow Six Extraction’ is a good formula gone to waste

Review: ‘Rainbow Six Extraction’ is a good formula gone to waste

I’m going to be honest, my eyes glazed over mere moments into the opening cutscene of this one. As a connoisseur of mid-co-op PvE shooters, I’ve seen it all — the horrifying, unforgiving atmosphere of GTFO, the whacky and diverse excursions of Deep Rock Galactic, or the bland re-hashing of the legendary Left 4 Dead, Back 4 Blood. I really enjoy Rainbow Six Siege’s slow-paced and thoughtful gameplay loop, so I was excited to see how it could be utilized in such an environment. But when I saw the Statue of Liberty’s head get popped off by some kind of black goo I rolled my eyes. I immediately knew this was going to be another gutless, apolitical, vapid exercise in monotony. I was right.

Rainbow Six Extraction is… hollow. The main loop breaks down like so: enter a map with three distinct sectors alone or with two others, complete a randomly assigned objective in each, and either leave or continue on to the next. There’s a sort of appealing risk-reward dynamic in whether to keep trucking on or back out early between objectives, but the choice was usually relatively easy to make. Never did I feel like we just may be able to get by — after a few sessions it was clear whether we were going to get creamed or not should my squad continue on.

This hilarious ‘Endgame’ edit pokes fun at Sony after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision

This hilarious ‘Endgame’ edit pokes fun at Sony after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision

It’s been a few days since Microsoft dropped the bombshell of the decade by revealing that they’re buying Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion and we’re still not completely over the news. The entire online community is shaken by it, though many are having a ton of fun with its industry-shattering implications.

After all, it’s not just the fact that Xbox now owns some of the most profitable and revenue-generating video games of the past decade (e.g. Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Candy Crush) but also the idea that the first-party output for Microsoft’s ninth-generation console counterpart to Sony’s PlayStation 5 is projected to dominate the mainstream gaming market in the near future.

Review: ‘Monster Hunter Rise’ shines on PC

Review: ‘Monster Hunter Rise’ shines on PC

There’s only one feeling that adequately describes Monster Hunter Rise on PC when compared to its Nintendo Switch counterpart. That feeling is speed

That being said, the most tragic part of playing Monster Hunter Rise on PC is that I couldn’t import my save file from my Switch. I didn’t think this would be a huge deal — I’d simply choose a different weapon and the game would change dramatically enough that fighting the same monsters all over again would be fresh and fun. On this point, I was correct. However, what wasn’t fun was gathering a bunch of like, mushrooms and dingleberries for the townsfolk so I could unlock the necessary facilities to rake in extra materials and travel around each map quickly. That part sucked.

Xbox Game Pass to receive a ton of Activision games following Microsoft acquisition

Xbox Game Pass to receive a ton of Activision games following Microsoft acquisition

If you’ve somehow missed today’s bombshell, Microsoft has just bought out Activision Blizzard for a significant sum of $68.7 billion. But what does the Xbox team exactly gain from this maelstrom of a deal?

Microsoft is pulling out all the big guns to compete against Sony’s long-time gaming adversary in the current ninth generation of video game consoles. When the company acquired Zenimax (parent company of Bethesda Softworks) with a staggering $7.5 billion in late 2020, everyone gasped in utter shock at the prospects of such a hugely independent corporation falling at the hands of the green team. Flash forward two years, and Microsoft has now truly outdone itself. By tenfold, if we’re splitting hairs.

Legendary director John Carpenter is praising ‘Halo Infinite,’ and so is Elon Musk

Few Hollywood directors really engage with the video game industry as an art form, or even just an economic powerhouse. John Carpenter, the legendary horror filmmaker, is an exception to this and has always been an avid fan of the medium.

It was Carpenter’s son who actually introduced him to the interactive world of video games in the 90s. “My son would play as he was growing up and introduced me to various games and I went through the gamut,” He told the media back in 2017. Carpenter is also credited as a narrator and story consultant on the survival shooter game F.E.A.R. 3.

‘God of War’ peaking on Steam with 65,000 concurrent players in just 24 hours

As one of the best video games of the past decade, certainly among the top contenders in the eighth generation, God of War was sure to supersede sales expectations when it finally launched on PC.

TIn spite of the fact that it’s only been a day since the game became available on Steam. SteamDB reports that God of War has had more than 65,000 concurrent players over the last 24 hours, currently sitting at the 14th spot in terms of user engagement on the platform. This is a huge success for Sony, especially when you consider the fact that almost every other game on that list is a multiplayer title.

Embargo lifts on PC version of ‘God of War,’ critics are raving about the port

Embargo lifts on PC version of ‘God of War,’ critics are raving about the port

If you would’ve told us back in the early 2010s that a PlayStation exclusive was going to make its way to PC, and a title as prominent as 2018’s God of War, no less, we would’ve burst out laughing. But now, this is actually turning into something of a tradition for Sony, and the results are anything but discouraging.

Despite some technical issues at launch, the release of Horizon Zero Dawn – another PS4 exclusive – on PC turned out to be a huge success for Sony. Not only did PC gamers get a chance to play the acclaimed title, which generated a hefty revenue for the company, it also gave quite a few of them the necessary nudge to buy a PlayStation console to play the game’s upcoming sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.
