The Batman Will Focus On Bruce Becoming A Genius Detective

Slowly but surely, we’re beginning to learn more and more about Matt Reeves’ upcoming project The Batman. Twilight alum Robert Pattinson has now officially been confirmed for the titular role (a decision that continues to polarize the internet) and we’re being told that the story won’t have any ties to previous outings in the DCEU – which is probably for the best.

While we still know very little about the plot itself, THR has revealed today that it’ll focus heavily on Bruce Wayne becoming a genius detective. In a report detailing how Pattinson snagged role and beat out fellow frontrunner Nicholas Hoult, the outlet explained the following:

“This new Batman needed to conform to a defined age bracket. He is written as around 30 years old, and the story is neither another re-hashing of his origin nor the tale of a seasoned crimefighter ruling Gotham City. He is Bruce Wayne still trying to find his footing on his way to becoming the genius detective.”

It’s an interesting angle to take, to be sure, as it’ll help The Batman stand apart from previous movies featuring the Dark Knight, which often treated him like more of a meathead and a physical brawler. In fact, very rarely have the films that we’ve already seen shed much of a light on the detective aspect of the character, so it’ll be fascinating to learn how Reeves does that and what kind of movie he churns out taking this unique approach.

Unfortunately, THR’s report didn’t go into much more detail, but this little tidbit is sure to spawn speculation and debate amongst the fanbase as The Batman inches closer and closer to production. And as soon as we learn any additional information on what Warner Bros. has planned for us with the hugely anticipated project, we’ll be sure to let you know, so stay tuned.
