Though the absence of a mainline Fast and Furious film has left us with a car-shaped hole in the summer blockbuster schedule, it definitely looks like the upcoming spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw, will provide more than enough high-octane action and crazy car chases to fill the gap.
For those unfamiliar with the project, it’ll focus on Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw as they team up alongside new players like Vanessa Kirby, Eiza Gonzalez, Eddie Marsan, Stephanie Vogt and, of course, Idris Elba, who’s going to be the villain of the piece. It’s an incredible cast, to be sure, but it seems that there’s one person who Universal’s been hiding in the shadows, hoping to keep his involvement a secret until the film hits theaters.
As you likely surmised by the title, we’re talking about none other than Kevin Hart. Yes, the beloved comedian/actor has apparently boarded The Fast and the Furious franchise and will appear in Hobbs & Shaw as an Air Marshall who gets caught up in the adventure somehow. Sources close to We Got This Covered have informed us that it’s unknown whether he’ll also be showing up in future installments in the franchise following this one, but given that he’s a pretty big name, we imagine he might be.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any further details on Hart’s role at the moment, but as with Keanu Reeves and Ryan Reynolds, who are also in the film, it sounds like Hobbs & Shaw may just give him a small part in order to set up a larger presence for him in another movie down the road. Or, it could just be a fun cameo and this might be Hart’s only appearance in the franchise. Time will tell.
Regardless, it’s exciting to learn that the always enjoyable actor will be showing up in the spinoff and his incredible energy and comedic timing will no doubt be a welcome addition to the film. Coupled with the rest of the cast, it looks like Hobbs & Shaw has all the makings of a huge summer hit and will likely prove to be another exhilarating outing for The Fast and the Furious franchise when it zooms into theaters on August 2nd.
