Jon Hamm Really Wants To Join The Star Wars Franchise

Jon Hamm has shown over the years that he has quite an expansive acting range. He’s won Emmys for his iconic character in Mad Men, cracked up audiences with his parts in Bridesmaids and Tag and starred in hit films like Baby DriverThe TownBad Times at the el Royale and more. Still, the acclaimed actor has yet to journey into the final frontier: space. With the release of several new Star Wars films on the horizon, Hamm is hoping that he will finally be able to land a role in the legendary intergalactic universe.

During an interview, fellow Good Omens co-star Nick Offerman revealed that he auditioned for Lord of the Rings years ago. Despite being a huge fan of the original source material, the job ultimately went to someone else. This inspired Hamm to reveal that he has also long been a fan of a popular series that has yet to cast him.

“My version of that is the Star Wars stuff,” he says. “There’ve been more Star Wars things with more people in them. Where’s my phone call? I’ve been a nerf-herder. I get the lingo.”

Your move, Disney. Hamm is dying to take part in the space saga. Adding his talents to an already stellar cast of all-timers and up-and-comers seems like it would be a great move for the franchise.

Then again, it’s not like Star Wars really needs much help. The series is already doing fine as is. Additionally, it’s doubtful that Hamm is the only A-lister who wants a role in these movies. If the studio started casting celebrities based just on how badly they wanted the parts, then the films would start looking more Dancing with the Stars than anything else.

That being said, it would be nice to see the 48-year-old performer become a part of the Star Wars canon. There’s no doubt that he would excel onscreen in any capacity. It remains to be seen whether or not the actor ever gets a chance to shine alongside the Jedis and stormtroopers, but it’s certainly an interesting idea worth discussing.

Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker will be released on December 20, 2019. Jon Hamm is unfortunately not expected to make an appearance anywhere besides the audience.
