Keanu Reeves’ Constantine Is Coming To DC Universe This Month

While Constantine, the whacky gothic 2005 film starring Keanu Reeves, may not be a completely faithful adaptation to the comics that inspired it, it’s been standing tall on its own two feet as a cult classic. And it seems like DC has finally realized that fact, having announced that the supernatural thriller will be making its way onto the company’s streaming service, DC Universe, this month.

Having just been pulled recently from Netflix, it looks like we now know why. It seems DC’s joining the ranks of Disney in the upcoming battle of the streaming services, while taking their marketing strategy as well. In the upcoming months, we should expect to see more of this, since DC Universe’s hoping to be the one-stop-shop for everything DC related.

For those of you unfamiliar with the site, a membership includes a vast collection of films, television shows (including the entirety of Batman: The Animated Series), and over 20 thousand comics to enjoy. While the Constantine series starring Matt Ryan has yet to cross over onto the platform, it may only be a matter of time.

But that show’s quite different from the Keanu-starring movie. Reeves’ Constantine sees and hunts demons, and spends the majority of the film attempting to find his place in heaven and relinquish himself from the grips of the devil (played thrillingly by Peter Stormare).

If you couldn’t gather from that small description, this film contains plenty more religious overtones than the comics, which dealt with religion but was more supernatural than anything. Does anybody else remember Keanu’s weapon that looked more like a holy water gun?

But anyways, it’s a fun enough picture to experience if you haven’t yet done so. So be sure to look out for Constantine on DC Universe this August.
