Marvel seems to be working hard to increase the number of leading heroines in the MCU over the next few years. Following Captain Marvel, the franchise’s first female-starring movie, we’ve got the likes of Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, WandaVision, Thor: Love and Thunder and more coming across various platforms in Phase 4. It almost makes you think the studio is working towards something, doesn’t it? Well, maybe they are.
We Got This Covered has heard that an A-Force movie is in development. Our sources – the same ones who revealed the She-Hulk show back in April and Black Knight being introduced into the MCU during the same month, both of which are now confirmed – tell us that Kevin Feige is planning an all-female team-up film, based on the group that first appeared in 2015 in the comics.
The line-up, we’re told, will include Valkyrie, Jane Foster’s Thor, Captain Marvel, Miss America and She-Hulk, among others. Jennifer Walters is typically the leader of A-Force and, sure enough, we’ve been informed that the She-Hulk Disney Plus series will be the first step towards the formation of the team.
What’s more, they aim to have a female writer and director helm the project. Getting more women filmmakers on board is also something Marvel seems to be addressing of late. After all, Anna Boden became the first female director of the MCU with Captain Marvel, which she co-directed with Ryan Fleck. Both of the 2020 movies will be helmed by women, too. Namely, Cate Shortland (Black Widow) and Chloe Zhao (The Eternals).
Talk of an all-female Avengers movie first rose up following a BTS shot of Avengers: Endgame‘s leading ladies going viral in 2017. We then learned that Tessa Thompson and a bunch of actresses had pitched the idea to Feige on set. The Marvel Studios president has since said the project’s a possibility, and given the popularity of the concept, it makes sense that we’re now hearing he’s ready to actively pursue it.
As She-Hulk isn’t due until 2022 at the earliest, don’t expect A-Force to arrive until at least 2023 (if not later). However, it’s exciting to hear that it may be on its way relatively soon and once we learn more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
