Putting aside the awful news that Sony Pictures and Disney weren’t able to come to an agreement on a new financing and co-production deal (effectively booting Spider-Man from the MCU), there was plenty of exciting announcements last week, with most of them coming out of the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. Until last weekend, details surrounding the upcoming Disney Plus streaming platform were, for all intents and purposes, rather vague.
Now, after a deluge of announcements, we’re a little more excited about what we can come to expect from the service during its first few years. In case you haven’t been keeping up to date, here’s a complete list of all original movies and shows that subscribers will have access to. Take note, not all of these will be available on launch day!
- The Mandalorian – as the first live-action TV series in the history of Star Wars, this show was co-created by Iron Man director Jon Favreau
- High School Musical: The Musical: The Series – this tongue-twister of a show follows a group of students who try to stage their own production of the original High School Musical TV movie
- Lady and the Tramp – this remake of the animated classic will be available on launch day
- Noelle – starring Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader, Noelle looks to be another holiday comedy that fans of Elf or The Santa Clause are sure to enjoy
- Monsters At Work – this direct sequel to Pixar’s 2001 classic is a TV show that follows the exploits of Tylor Tuskman, the newest employee of Monsters, Incorporated.
- Untitled Star Wars: Rogue One Prequel Series – not much is known about this one, except that Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk will reprise their roles of Cassian Andor and K-2SO
- Untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi Series – our industry insider was right on the mark, seeing as how Ewan McGregor is, in fact, coming back to play the legendary Jedi
- The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan are coming back for Disney Plus’ first MCU show
- WandaVision – this reality-bending series will likely explain how Vision and Scarlet Witch are able to reunite, seeing as how the former died during Infinity War
- Loki – one of the more curious projects, Tom Hiddleston will return as the trickster god, who escaped with the Tesseract during one of the Avengers’ trips through time
- Hawkeye – In this series, Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) will pass on the mantle to Kate Bishop, in a move pulled right from the comic books
There are plenty of other projects in the works too, including The World According To Jeff Goldblum, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Moon Knight, What If…?, an untitled Lizzie McGuire reboot, Diary of a Female President, The Sandlot, and plenty more.
