It’s been a pretty big couple of days when it comes to discussing the cast for The Suicide Squad. If you haven’t been keeping up, then we’ll remind you that Steve Agee has been brought on board to voice King Shark, while Nathan Fillion has also signed up for an undisclosed role. And now, someone who most fans would call geek royalty has joined the project as well.
According to Deadline, none other than Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi will be getting involved in the upcoming DC movie. It’s unclear what part he’ll play and how big it’ll be, but the outlet says he’s currently in talks for a role. And given that the filmmaker has more than proven his chops in front of the camera on several occasions now, that’s hugely exciting.
We imagine Waititi will be playing someone from DC Comics lore, but we won’t jump to conclusions just yet. After all, let’s not forget how much mystery surrounded Scott Eastwood’s involvement in 2016’s Suicide Squad and he ended up playing an inconsequential soldier, even though many people firmly believed he’d be portraying Dick Grayson.
In any case, Waititi now joins an eclectic cast that includes Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) and Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) as well as new castmembers Idris Elba, David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), Flula Borg, Steve Agee (King Shark) and Nathan Fillion. Excited yet?
Plot details still remain hard to come by, but with an impressive roster of talent now locked into place, we should hopefully start to learn a little more before The Suicide Squad arrives in theaters on August 6th, 2021. After that’s out of the way, James Gunn will get to work on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
