Ever since the end of Breaking Bad all the way back in 2013, fans have been clamoring to get more information about its characters and backstory, especially concerning Jesse Pinkman, the only main player to make it to the end of the series alive. Now, we’re finally getting the chance to dive back into that world with El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie.
The Netflix original has already been wrapped and is ready for release, though few details are available about its narrative, other than the fact that it’ll follow Jesse’s story after he escaped from his captors in the final chapter of the series. Aaron Paul, who once again reprises his role as Pinkman, recently teased some of the other familiar faces that will show up in El Camino and though he wouldn’t divulge any specifics, he did offer the following:
“All I can say, I think people will be really happy with what they see.”
The response came as an answer to the question of whether the movie will see appearances by Jesse’s slimy lawyer Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk or his ex-girlfriend Jane Margolis, played by Krysten Ritter. Not to mention the leading attraction himself, chemistry teacher, drug lord and Jesse’s mentor Walter White AKA Heisenberg, played by Bryan Cranston.
While Breaking Bad was never known for unnecessary fan service, it was one of the few shows that were able to maintain the quality of the writing right up until the stormy and unexpected finale. Vince Gilligan, who created the series and wrote and directed the movie as well, may yet be able to incorporate some of our favorite characters from Breaking Bad via flashback, as most of them were dead by the end of the show.
Then again, it may feel a little forced if too many familiar faces are thrown into El Camino, so hopefully if Gilligan does choose to bring back anyone other than Jesse, it’s done for storytelling purposes and not just to please the fans with a brief cameo.
