While the Halloween film franchise has enjoyed its share of triumphs, it’s also experienced its share of missteps just as any long-running series will. I’m serious, for every H20, we get a Curse of Michael Myers or Resurrection. Or, we get led so far off the tried and true path that 2009’s Halloween II becomes a reality.
Luckily, we have people like David Gordon Green now steering the ship. In my view, he and those surrounding him understand what makes this franchise tick better than pretty much anybody in Hollywood – save for John Carpenter, of course. Because of that, I’m very much excited to see the their two followups – Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends – over the next couple of years.
According to screenwriter Danny McBride, we have no reason to fear seeing the likes of weirdo doomsday cults or white horses when we next venture to cinemas, telling Collider the following:
“It’s just a continuation of it. It’s telling the story, moving forward. It’s not another reinvention, or anything like that. It’s this world that we’ve established, and then it continues beyond the events of the first one.”
Based on how straightforward the titles of both sequels are, McBride’s words seem to ring pretty true. If these folks are able to pull it off, then maybe we’ll wind up with the horror equivalent of The Dark Knight Trilogy. At least, that’s one of the better parallels I’m able to draw at the present time.
With filming set to commence this September, we should be hearing much more about the next entries into this beloved slasher saga before long. Hey, Jamie Lee Curtis is already confirmed to be back on board, so I’d say this production is shaping up nicely.
Halloween Kills arrives in theaters on October 16th, 2020, with Halloween Ends bringing up the rear on October 15th, 2021.
