Marvel’s Avengers is a difficult game to gauge. As of now, almost two months since its announcement at E3, the general public still hasn’t been allowed to see its superpowered cast in action. Not officially, at least. Almost immediately following the aforementioned event’s conclusion, a minutes-long reel of hazy gameplay leaked into the public domain. In it, fans were able to catch their first glimpse of Captain America, Hulk and Black Widow gleefully beating an army of mysterious masked soldiers into submission.
Besides the odd teaser here and there, not a peep has been heard out of developer Crystal Dynamics since then. Until recently, that is. The studio held a special panel at last week’s San Diego Comic-Con that not only showed a new cinematic hinting at Ms. Marvel’s inclusion but new gameplay to boot. Similar to before, of course, this footage was only shown to a select few but that didn’t stop one attendee from capturing some cheeky off-screen footage.
That leak provided a first-look at Thor and Iron Man battling what’s presumed to be Taskmaster’s forces and sent hype levels through the roof. If Crystal had, up until this point, been reluctant to show Marvel’s Avengers to the public for fear of reprisal, it needn’t anymore. For those of you that have so far held off on watching the leaks in preference for the real deal, so to speak, your patience will soon(ish) pay off.
Following the conclusion of Gamescom in August, the first publicly available gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Avengers will be released. If, however, you’re like me and are unable to exercise any modicum of patience and self-control, don’t get too excited. There’s a high chance that what’s dropped in August will largely be a combination of both leaks. On the bright side, though, you’ll at least not be required to squint in order to make out the small details.
Marvel’s Avengers is out in early 2020 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Expect further details to come at Gamescom.
