Having spent the last eight years as a supporting player in the MCU, Clint Barton is finally getting his own vehicle with the upcoming Hawkeye TV show. Though we’d been hearing reports for some time about the archer landing a Disney Plus series, the news only just became official at last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con. But now that the cat’s out of the bag, Jeremy Renner has spent these last few days hyping up the the project through his various social media accounts.
This latest tease takes the form of a photo from Marvel’s Hall H panel, featuring the outline of Renner in front of the show’s stylish new logo and one of its key characters. While the logo is heavily inspired by Matt Fraction and David Aja’s run with the character, the heroine pictured is none other than Kate Bishop, the third character in the comics to adopt the Hawkeye name.
At the moment, details on the show are still in short supply, with last weekend’s panel leaving much to the imagination. At the very least, we can expect to see a passing of the torch between Clint and Kate, perhaps paving the way for that Young Avengers project that the rumor mill keeps insisting will happen.
In any case, we still have over two years to speculate on the possibilities of Clint and Kate’s small-screen adventures before Hawkeye comes to Disney Plus in 2021. In the meantime, Marvel’s Phase 4 finally gets going with the release of Black Widow on May 1st, 2020, before The Falcon and the Winter Soldier serves as the MCU’s first Disney Plus series when it premieres in the fall of next year.
