Blade Will Reportedly Join The Avengers In The MCU’s Phase 5

He’s not due until Phase 5, but Blade will be coming to the MCU in a few short years. Marvel made the shock announcement at Comic-Con a week ago that the vampire hunter was getting a reboot, with Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali set to take over from Wesley Snipes as the Daywalker. The presence of Blade in the MCU suggests a whole new, supernatural corner of the franchise will be opened up, and we’re hearing that Marvel has big plans for him.

In fact, We Got This Covered has been told by a source that Blade will ultimately go on to join the Avengers when the time comes to reboot their roster, likely in the touted New Avengers movie. At the moment, it’s unclear who exactly will be on the team, but we’ve been told that heroes like Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Jane Foster’s Thor, Shangi-Chi and more will all feature, among others.

Of course, as with all rumors of this ilk, we imagine Marvel and those involved in the Blade reboot may publicly deny it, but let’s not forget that this is the same source who told us Robert Pattinson was Batman before that got confirmed, and that Taskmaster would be the main villain in Black Widow. Not to mention that Black Adam will be appearing in Shazam! 3, which Zachary Levi later confirmed.

But we digress. As we’re familiar with a lot of these other heroes already, Blade’s presence among them may initially make him feel out of place. However, though he’s often thought of as occupying a different space in the Marvel universe from the Avengers, Eric Brooks does have a history with the team in the comics.

He’s been part of various versions of the group over the years, like the Mighty Avengers and the Avengers of the Supernatural, and was a prominent member of the Avengers of the Ultimate universe. MCU fans will know that the franchise has frequently borrowed from the Ultimate comics as well.

Just because he’ll be rubbing shoulders with the Avengers, though, it doesn’t sound like Marvel’s going to tone down the horror elements of the Blade mythos. We don’t know for sure whether the movie will be R-rated, but our intel has also pointed to none other than Dracula serving as the big bad of Ali’s first film in the MCU, which is hugely exciting. And as the production continues to ramp up, we’ll be sure to bring you any further updates on Blade that come our way.
