Marvel officially announced their full slate of projects for Phase 4 of the MCU earlier this month, with 5 movies and 5 TV shows set to arrive over the years 2020 and 2021. However, this is just the beginning of the future for the never-ending franchise, according to one exec.
Victoria Alonso, Marvel Studios’ executive vice president of physical production, delivered a keygraph at the SIGGRAPH conference and teased that there is “so much more to come” once Phase 4 wraps up. As we’ve reported elsewhere, Alonso believes there’s enough clout in the Marvel universe to make sure that it lasts for pretty much all of eternity.
“There are so many stories to tell. The thing about Marvel is we have 6,000 characters in our library. There will be children forever telling these stories.” She also quipped that at Marvel, “dying is just a state of mind.”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige promised much the same at the end of his Comic-Con panel announcing Phase 4. He revealed that some of the exciting projects coming in Phase 5 include a Blade movie with Mahershala Ali, sequels for Captain Marvel, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy and the much-anticipated X-Men and Fantastic Four reboots.
As for those coming in the next couple of years, they include Black Widow, The Eternals, Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange 2 and Thor: Love and Thunder. The advent of Disney Plus means that we’re getting the following big budget miniseries as well: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, WandaVision, Loki, What If? and Hawkeye. An intriguing comment made by Feige has also got us wondering if there’s a secret eleventh Phase 4 project, too.
This could be Spider-Man 3, which must be a cert after Far From Home has earned over $1 billion at the box office. If it’s not, then it must be one of the movies Alonso’s promising will come following 2021. Along with a fifth Avengers film, whatever form that ends up taking.
