Chris Evans Slams Donald Trump For Tone-Deaf El Paso Survivor Photo

Chris Evans might’ve retired from the role of Captain America, but that doesn’t mean he’s done fighting for the good of this country. Ever since Donald Trump was elected to the Oval Office in 2016, the actor has been very vocal about his displeasure with the controversial commander-in-chief. Recently, Evans took issue with a photo that the president took alongside a two-month-old survivor of a recent mass shooting.

The horrific act of domestic terror that left 22 dead and injured 24 others at a Wal-Mart in El Paso, Texas on August 3rd rocked America to its core. The parents of two-month-old Paul Anchondo were two of the unfortunate victims who died while trying to shield their son from bullets. The heartbreaking story quickly went viral, as anyone with a soul felt their hearts break for this poor orphan. The president visited the city last week and took the time to pose for an opportunistic photo-op with the infantile survivor.

The cringe-worthy picture shows Trump and his wife standing with the baby and his new guardians. Despite the obvious solemnity of the occasion, both Donald and First Lady Melania have wide smiles on their faces. Perhaps even more disturbing is the fact that the president is giving a big thumbs-up to the camera. Regardless of one’s opinion on the leader, it’s clear that his demeanor in this photograph is far from appropriate.

Evans quoted the aforementioned image on Twitter and said: “I don’t even have the words. How dare this man.” While his disdain for Trump is evident, it would be interesting to hear what he has to say about the Chairman of Marvel Entertainment being one of the Republican’s largest financial contributors. This is definitely not something that sits well with him or the majority of his co-stars, but so far no one other than Armie Hammer has spoken out against the executive.

Trump has had his beefs with celebrities even before he decided to run for office. Now that everyone is blaming his inflammatory rhetoric for the hate crime in El Paso and his lackluster response to it, he’s doubling down on his criticism of Hollywood. Rather than take some of the blame, he’s deflected it towards cinema and even managed to convince Universal to pull the plug on their upcoming film The Hunt by claiming that it was made “to cause chaos.”

Still, there’s no escaping the fact that his words inspired this bigot to commit a disgusting hate crime. His response thereafter was somehow even worse than what his many critics could’ve expected. Whenever anyone finds themselves getting roasted by Captain America, it’s probably not a good sign. Maybe now Trump will finally take a hard look in the mirror and reconsider the way he behaves. Unfortunately, that’s about as likely as him landing a role in the MCU.
