Avengers: Endgame Writers Explain What It Feels Like To Be Snapped

For better or worse, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is essentially finished until next year. Spider-Man: Far From Home was the final MCU film of 2019 and new movies and Disney Plus TV shows won’t premiere until 2020. Still, there’s plenty to get excited about, especially if you’re a fan of Avengers: Endgame

Just last week, the Russo brothers’ magnum opus released on digital platforms, and those looking to pick it up on 4K and Blu-Ray only have two more days of waiting ahead of them. As you might expect, there’s been a flurry of new information and trivia unearthed thanks to Endgame‘s special features and commentary tracks, but it seems that some of the movie’s creative team have been promoting the film’s home release. As ComicBook.com reports, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely recently spoke to Backstory Magazine and revealed an interesting tidbit regarding Thanos’ destructive snap.

As you might remember, during the climax of Avengers: Infinity War, the Mad Titan wiped out half of all life in the universe with a snap of his fingers – an event which is being referred to as “The Blip” within the MCU. If you’ve seen the movie for yourself, you probably noticed how some of the franchise’s key players had a rather peculiar look on their face before they were removed from existence. It turns out that Thanos’ victims actually felt something during their final moments. Markus provided some more concrete details when he was asked if the “unsnapped” remembered what had happened before they came back to life during Endgame.

“I got the feeling that being snapped away is a bit like when you know you’re about to throw up and you can kind of feel it building in you,” he explained. “Then you throw up, and I think they feel themselves starting to become dissolute and maybe you could see your fingers start to go dusty — and then it snaps off your nervous system.”

Knowing that our favorite characters experienced some level of pain before they disappeared won’t make rewatching Infinity War any easier. Thankfully, we’ll always have the chance to watch them come back to life and collectively work together to defeat Thanos in Avengers: Endgame
