Ryan Reynolds To Return In Hobbs & Shaw 2, Will Have A Bigger Role

Hobbs & Shaw arrived in theaters this month and though it didn’t make as big of an impact as the mainline installments have in recent years, fans of the Fast and Furious series still thoroughly enjoyed the spinoff featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, which had them battling a villainous Idris Elba.

Of course, the film was also full of several exciting cameos, one of which was Ryan Reynolds. If you’ve seen the movie already, you’ll know that the Deadpool star showed up as a CIA apparatchik named Locke. He didn’t get a ton of time on screen, of course, but his brief appearance certainly added a lot of enjoyment to the film and left fans eager to see more of him in the franchise.

Thankfully, then, it sounds like they’ll get just that. According to our sources, Reynolds will return in the inevitable sequel and not only will he return, but he’ll have a larger role. Unfortunately, the details on his involvement end there, but rest assured, Locke will be back.

Of course, Universal has yet to formally announce a Hobbs & Shaw 2 and as such, we imagine the studio and/or Reynolds may publicly deny this. But with $338 million and counting under its belt at the box office, a follow-up is all but confirmed to be happening at this point.

Not to mention that this intel comes from the same sources who revealed that both Reynolds and Kevin Hart had cameos in Hobbs & Shaw months before it hit theaters. And that Keanu Reeves was going to have a small part as well before the idea got scrapped. Given that all of that turned out to be true, we have no reason to doubt that Ryan will be back for the sequel.

Still, it’ll probably be a while before we get another outing headlined by The Rock and Jason Statham, but while we wait for them to join forces again, there’s the upcoming Fast & Furious 9 to look forward to, which arrives on May 22nd, 2020.
