Andrew Lincoln might’ve left The Walking Dead TV show behind last year, but Rick Grimes will return in his own spinoff movie. The film, which is planned as the first of a possible trilogy, will explore what happened next to the former Alexandrian leader after he was flown away from his friends and family by Anne in his last episode.
Though he’s far from home, fans are still hoping that a few familiar faces will show up in the movie to reunite with Rick. In fact, it’s not just the fans who want this but the stars, too. IGN caught up with a trio of TWD‘s leads and in the interview, Norman Reedus made it clear that he wants Daryl Dixon to meet his old pal again on the big screen.
“I definitely think, if that’s on the cards, that should without a doubt happen. It’s such a family group, and it would be hard not to have that family be part of the story dynamic, you know what I mean?”
Jeffrey Dean Morgan concurred with Reedus’ point, agreeing that the Walking Dead movie should build on what’s come before and feature a few faces from Rick’s old life.
“You hope that the film, whatever that film is, will tie into what we’ve already built with the TV [show] and at least a character or two that is on the show, because this world is so big and vast.”
Young actress Cailey Fleming, who plays Judith Grimes, would also like to appear in the film, as she thinks it would be “cool” for her character to meet her father. “I think he would be [proud of her],” Fleming says, on if they ever reunited.
We’re not sure about Negan or Judith showing up, but there’s been talk of Reedus putting in an appearance in the movie. Mostly, though, it’s expected that Danai Gurira will turn up as Michonne, seeing as she’s following on from Lincoln and quitting TWD this season.
The Walking Dead season 10 kicks off on Sunday, October 6th on AMC. Andrew Lincoln’s movie, meanwhile, coming exclusively to cinemas, is due sometime in 2020.
