James Wan’s New Horror Flick Silvercup Finds Its Male Lead

James Wan is the king of modern horror franchises. From Saw to Insidious to The Conjuring, it seems that practically everything the filmmaker touches turns to cinematic gold. His upcoming scary film Silvercup seems like it has the potential to follow in the footsteps of its predecessors. Wan has already cast frequent collaborator Annabelle Wallis in the movie. Now, he’s reportedly selected George Young to star alongside her as the male lead.

This could be a breakout role for the English actor, who hasn’t starred in anything major to this point in his career. The 39-year-old endeared himself to international audiences in HBO Asia’s 2014 miniseries Grace and recently appeared in the first two parts of an indie film series  entitled A Bread Factory. American viewers may recognize him from the CW’s short-lived drama Containment.

Wallis, on the other hand, is much more familiar to those in the United States. She’s most known for appearing in The Tudors, The Mummy, X-Men: First Class, Tag, Peaky Blinders and The Loudest Voice. People who have followed Wan’s career will especially recognize the actress from her work in Annabelle and Annabelle: Creation. The feature will definitely be in good hands with Wallis at the forefront.

Little is known about the plot for this mysterious flick. There are rumors that the story follows “two women on the run from a monster”, but that has yet to be confirmed. Given that Wan is attached to the project, horror fans should have high hopes. If this movie has anywhere near the level of success that he’s used to, this project could spawn countless sequels and spin-offs.

Silvercup is definitely a film that moviegoers are going to want to watch out for this fall. Like many of Wan’s movies, it could end up being a sleeper hit that helps put George Young on the map and kickstart yet another iconic horror series that endures for years to come.
