Birds Of Prey Set To Undergo Major Reshoots Next Month

Though most people will always know him as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ewan McGregor will soon be appearing in another popular franchise over in the DCEU. As you’ve surely heard, the beloved actor’s playing Black Mask in Warner Bros.’ villain-filled flick, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), and apparently, he’s one of the best parts of the film.

Though the movie won’t be with us until next year, test screenings have been very positive so far, with audiences praising McGregor’s performance in particular, along with the gritty and violent tone of the film and its steps towards more LGBTQ representation in the franchise. But apparently, not everyone’s happy with what director Cathy Yan has put together.

Not too long ago, reports surfaced that said Warner Bros. execs weren’t pleased with the current cut of Birds of Prey and now we’re hearing that the movie is headed back for major reshoots next month. What exactly’s being changed is unclear, but understandably, fans have taken to social media to express their concern. And frankly, we don’t blame them.

True, reshoots are pretty standard for most Hollywood blockbusters and again, test screening reactions have been good, but we all know that WB has a history of meddling with DC films and often, things don’t turn out well when they do. Do we need to remind you that both Justice League and Suicide Squad were very different – and probably better – movies before the studio got involved?

In any case, it’s probably a bit too early to start getting worried just yet, but we’re hopeful that the execs at Warner Bros. have learned from their past mistakes and let Yan do what she set out to with Birds of Prey. I guess we’ll know for sure though if that’s what they decide to do on February 7th, 2020, when the movie hits theaters.
