Chris Pratt Can’t Wait To See Mahershala Ali As Blade

Marvel announced their full Phase 4 line-up at Comic-Con last weekend, with Kevin Feige also teasing some movies to come after that as well. The big one that’s got fans excited is the news that a Blade reboot is on its way, with Mahershala Ali portraying the vampire hunter.

It’s not just the fans who are excited, though, as at least one other star of the MCU can’t wait to see the new take on the classic cult hero. Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt, was speaking with Variety recently when he discussed how he was blown away by the revelation that the project was in the works. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor is apparently a big fan of the original trilogy, too, saying:

“Oh my God, I cannot wait to see Blade. That to me is going to be so sick. I’m a huge fan of the original [starring Wesley Snipes as the vampire vigilante]. Mahershala Ali as Blade, when I heard that I was like ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to see that.’”

A lot of folks are in the same boat as Pratt. Blade wasn’t one of Marvel’s most celebrated heroes before Wesley Snipes brought him to life for two great, one not-so-great movies in the late-90s/early-00s, but he’s now a firm fan favorite. There’s been a lot of talk about Snipes reprising his role in the MCU as well, mostly from Snipes himself, but if anyone can replace him, the internet’s agreed that an Oscar winner like Ali is the perfect person for the job. Even Snipes is behind the casting, sharing his positive reactions to the news on social media.

It’s basically thanks to Ali that we’ve got this new Blade, too, as the star booked a meeting with Kevin Feige and showed interest in playing the Daywalker. Apparently, the Marvel Studios president latched onto the idea and now, here we are. But are you as excited for this reboot as Chris Pratt is? Or are you just watching the clock until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 gets here? Have your say in the comments section below.
