Though he might be one of the greatest comic book villains of all-time, the adaptations of Doctor Doom we’ve seen on the silver screen so far have been pretty underwhelming. 2005’s Fantastic Four and its sequel, 2007’s Rise of the Silver Surfer, featured a miscast Julian McMahon as Victor Von Doom while Toby Kebbell’s take on the character in 2015’s FF reboot was entirely forgettable.
Thankfully, then, it sounds like we’ll be getting a much more faithful and successful version of the sorcerer/scientist king of Latveria when he finally makes his MCU debut. When that’ll be, we can’t say for sure, but a source close to We Got This Covered has informed us that Marvel has big plans for Doctor Doom in the franchise.
It’s unlikely he’ll be introduced before the end of Phase 4, or maybe even the beginning of Phase 5, but from what we understand, the studio wants him to have a big presence in the MCU and he’ll apparently be a threat for all the major heroes, like Thanos was, and not just for the Fantastic Four. We’re also hearing that his country, Latveria, will play a role in the MCU, though it’s unclear how that will go down.
While we weren’t able to extract any further intel from our source aside from what we just mentioned, it’s still hugely exciting to know that Marvel Studios has big plans for Doctor Doom. After all, there’s been a widespread feeling for some time now that they’ll finally be able to get the character right, and again, after both Julian McMahon and Toby Kebbel’s versions from the three Fantastic Four movies disappointed, we really need a proper portrayal of the villain on the big screen.
With it looking likely that Norman Osborn will be the next major MCU threat, it’ll probably still be several years before Doctor Doom is introduced. And after that, Marvel will probably need even more time to build him up and turn him into a truly formidable foe. But rest assured, Victor Von Doom is on his way to the big screen, and if one thing’s for certain, it’s that our heroes better watch out for him.
