Tony Todd Confirms He’ll Return For Candyman Reboot

Jordan Peele is a director to keep your eye on. Make no mistake about it.

Having suitably spooked horror fans with his near perfect feature film debut Get Out back in 2017, he then dove deeper into the American psyche, resulting in the very creepy and unsettling Us. For all of his barnstorming success, though, Peele isn’t one to rest on his laurels. Not at all.

To begin with, he’s already brought The Twilight Zone into the 21st century, with the CBS All Access series premiering last month, and now he’s beginning to make serious headway on a reboot of Candyman, which has Nia DaCosta sitting behind the camera. We don’t know much about what the pair are cooking up for us just yet, but while appearing on the Sofa King Cool podcast (h/t Bloody Disgusting), original star Tony Todd – who played the titular role in the 1992 cult classic – has confirmed that he’ll have a role in the upcoming film.

“Out of the blue, I got a phone call from Jordan Peele. We’re still waiting for the contract, but the way he explained it to me was that it’s gonna be applause-worthy moments. That’s his words. No matter what happens with that, it’s gonna just put renewed attention on the original.”

Unfortunately, Todd wouldn’t say how big or small his part will be, or if it’ll be anything more than a cameo, but his involvement alone should be enough to get fans excited. Of course, it also doesn’t hurt that he’ll be joined by Aquaman‘s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and If Beale Street Could Talk star Teyonah Parris, who’s going to play the art dealer girlfriend of Abdul-Mateen’s character

Candyman is yet to carve out a release date, but we’ll notify you if and when that changes. In the meantime, feel free to head on down to the comments section and let us know what your hopes are for Peele’s upcoming reboot of the beloved horror flick.
