Another day, another Star Wars rumor to pore over.
Truth be told, this one has been doing the rounds for quite some time – since the arrival of The Force Awakens, really. But over on Twitter, Lucasfilm alum Pablo Hidalgo shut down any allegations that Rey is actually Han Solo’s daughter.
In the build-up to The Rise of Skywalker, the ninth and final installment in the Skywalker Saga, one curious fan asked Hidalgo whether he knows anything about J.J. Abrams’ approach to Episode IX and, more specifically, whether rumors of Rey’s familial ties to the Solo family are true.
Alas, it’s not even remotely true; as Hidalgo himself points out, such a bait-and-switch would be at odds with the series timeline.
That doesn’t fit with the timeline. Han and Leia were together up until about 5 years before TFA when it all went to hell, and Rey is 19.

And that’s that, really. Any digitized kernel of information claiming that Rey is, in fact, Han Solo’s daughter is total bogus, as it doesn’t coincide with the core Star Wars timeline. Besides, revealing Rey and Kylo Ren to be siblings would only undermine their fiery dynamic, and play into the cliché that every major Star Wars character can be traced back to the Skywalker family tree.
Thankfully, this online rumor is just that, a baseless claim with no real evidence to support it. It’s also worth keeping in mind that The Rise of Skywalker may well introduce Keri Russell’s Zorri Bliss as the mother of Rey. Sure, it goes against Kylo’s fiery outburst from The Last Jedi, but it would be heartening to see Rey reunited with at least one parental figure after all this time.
In any case, all will be revealed once Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker descends into theaters on December 20th. Don’t miss it.
