Marvel Fans Flock To Twitter To Pay Tribute To Tony Stark On His Birthday

If you were to ask someone what May 29th, 1970, meant to them, there’s a good chance that they’d stare back at you with a confused expression on their face. Add the phrase “within the Marvel Cinematic Universe” to the end of your question, and you could get an entirely different response. If you’re reading this article and are unsure as to what we’re getting at, you might have just forgotten about one of the most important dates associated with the MCU.

Back in 2008, Robert Downey Jr. helped kick off Marvel’s never-ending film series thanks to Iron Man, and, as it turns out, the titular character was born on May 29th, 1970. That means today is his 49th birthday, and fans from all over the world have flocked to Twitter to celebrate the occasion by posting videos, heartfelt messages, and some impressive artwork.

Of course, today comes as a bittersweet moment, seeing as how Tony sacrificed his life at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Some observant MCU enthusiasts have been quick to mention that while Iron Man is gone, he’s technically still alive at this point along the series’ timeline, considering he didn’t die until 2023, which is when the bulk of Endgame takes place.

Even though he might be gone from the MCU, it’s clear that fans won’t be forgetting Tony Stark anytime soon, and the outpouring of emotion today just goes to show how impactful his character was.
