A useless legal thriller that wasted a top-tier cast gets held in contempt by streaming users

It’s arguably a lot more difficult to make a bad movie when there’s enough talent in the cast to elevate even the shakiest of material above mediocrity, but no amount of recognizable names and living legends could manage to polish the cinematic turd that was 2016’s Misconduct.

About as banal and uninteresting as its title, Shintaro Shimosawa’s directorial debut deservedly landed an objectionable seven percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. The user rating may have been over three times as high, but 22 percent is hardly a barometer of quality that you’d expect given the names on display.

LFF Review: ‘Women Talking’ marks a new level of maturity for writer director Sarah Polley

Adapted from the novel by Miriam Toews, Women Talking represents a cinematic deconstruction of feminine identity. Complex in its dissection, comprehensive in its encompassing approach, and packed with powerhouse performances on all sides this feels like a political treatise.  

Charting the course of conversations discussing female roles within an isolated colony, following heinous physical assaults and no apparent retribution, writer-director Sarah Polley brings together the full force of some formidable character actors. Polley lays down her agenda and sets her cinematic stall to hold court on a woman’s role in society, shaping, molding, and refining Women Talking into an even-handed examination of what that means in reality.

We’ve got our first close-up look at the new ‘Black Panther’ costume thanks to ‘Wakanda Forever’ premiere

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is finally getting its premiere and the actors are not the only stars getting their photos snapped on the red carpet. The premiere is also displaying the phenomenal costumes from the film including the much anticipated new Black Panther suit, the crown jewel of the collection.

With the film just over two weeks away from release in theatres many are still wondering who it is under the mask after the trailer gave us a glimpse at the latest iteration of Black Panther. We now know that it will be a woman wearing the suit, and there are even suspicions that there will be more than one person taking on the mantle after viewers thought they spotted a second suit in the trailer.

NieR creator pulls the rug on gacha whales with the ending of his mobile game

NieR director Yoko Taro has gained himself a cult following over the years for the ways in which he subverts expectations for storytelling in video games, and the upcoming finale to the mobile game SINoALICE, which Taro directed, will be no different.

While the exact details of the game’s ending are still yet to be revealed, players of the game have been given a roadmap to how it can be unlocked, as well as a stark warning – once they view the game’s final cinematic, they will be logged out of the game, and their accounts will be deleted – never to return to the game again.

Was Jonathan Majors’ ‘Creed III’ character introduced in the first movie?

It’s time to put on our tin-foil hats because we’re about to enter some unexplored fan theory territory when it comes to Jonathan Majors’ character in the upcoming boxing drama Creed III.

The first trailer for the movie, released last week, confirmed once and for all that Majors’ character is not the son of Mr. T’s Clubber Lang from Rocky III. Instead, Majors will play a wholly original character to the Rocky franchise, Damian Anderson, who ties into the upbringing of our protagonist, Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis Creed. New DC exec. James Gunn addresses whether he’ll keep directing movies

James Gunn, the director of such movies as Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and DC’s The Suicide Squad, is now addressing whether he will continue to direct movies now that he is a newly-minted executive at Warner Bros. Discovery as the co-chair and co-CEO of the newly-formed DC Studios.

Gunn is sharing his duties as the leader of DC Studios with movie producer Peter Safran, as We Got This Covered previously reported.

Claims of James Cameron ripping off Pocahontas abound after comments on Marvel

James Cameron has officially joined the ranks of Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola by being the latest movie director to deride the supposedly shallow storytelling found in Marvel and DC movies. However, defenders of superhero flicks are now pointing out the widely held opinion that Cameron’s Avatar is itself quite derivate of other stories, such as Pocahontas.

Now that James Gunn is DC’s Kevin Feige, is a Marvel crossover next?

Now that Warner Bros. Discovery has found their Kevin Feige-like figureheads of the newly-minted DC Studios — which includes co-chairs and co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran — fans are hoping that a Marvel and DC crossover event will happen at some point in the future.

Since Gunn is helming the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for Marvel — while at the same time now being DC Studios’ boss — it has made people wonder whether an Avengers vs Justice League film may actually take place. As one Twitter user correctly pointed out, Marvel boss Feige famously said “never say never” when it comes to a potential crossover with DC.
