This year marks the 30th anniversary of the infamous Super Mario Bros., and the blockbuster video game adaptation is still seeking to attain a level of consistency that will see it shake off the “cursed” label that’s followed the genre around since its inception. Based on the latest from Borderlands, though, we could be staring another failure straight in the face.
Things have been virtually radio silent on Eli Roth’s video game adaptation ever since principal photography first wrapped towards the end of 2021, which is never an encouraging sign. The filmmaker may be best known as the godfather of torture porn, but The House with a Clock in Its Walls showed that he could deliver surprisingly strong work outside of his comfort zone.
