A diabolical comedic passion project fails to wring laughs out of Netflix viewers

A diabolical comedic passion project fails to wring laughs out of Netflix viewers

As far as passion projects go, they don’t come much stranger than Josh Duhamel’s Buddy Games. The actor made his feature-length directorial debut on the project, as well as playing the lead role, producing, and co-writing the script alongside Bob Schwartz and Jude Weng, but the end result was about as unfunny a comedy as you’re likely to see.

Thanks to the pandemic, it didn’t find much of an audience either, not that it was likely to curry much favor anyway when you take the 16 percent Rotten Tomatoes score and 22 Metacritic rating into account. The ensemble effort first premiered at the Mammoth Film Festival in February 2019, but it wouldn’t score a VOD release until the following November.

Morbin’ Time isn’t going away, does Sony have to give ‘Morbius’ a sequel?

Morbin’ Time isn’t going away, does Sony have to give ‘Morbius’ a sequel?

The long, winding, and increasingly bizarre tale of Morbius continues to gather new wrinkles on a daily basis, with the latest finding the movie’s official Twitter account coming painstakingly close to just coming right out and announcing that it is, in fact, Morbin’ Time.

Of course, the ironic appreciation of the Living Vampire’s live-action debut would no doubt end in an instant were Sony to embrace the memes, but the massively unexpected and stupidly entertaining post-release appeal of Morbius has potentially put the studio in a tricky position when it comes to dealing with the protagonist’s future.

Watch: New ‘Lightyear’ TV spot puts the focus on Team Buzz

Watch: New ‘Lightyear’ TV spot puts the focus on Team Buzz

As the title suggests, Lightyear marks the first time that everyone’s favorite plastic astronaut Buzz Lightyear is going solo, with Pixar’s Toy Story spinoff revealing the “true story” of the heroic Space Ranger that the action figure’s based on. Although we’re all waiting on the movie to get a look at Chris Evans’ revisionist take on the iconic character, the Captain America star’s Buzz will be ably supported by a motley crew of rookie rangers who might just threaten to steal the film from its eponymous protagonist.

And this new Lightyear TV spot puts the spotlight on Buzz’s reluctant teammates. In particular, the promo offers fresh footage of Keke Palmer’s Izzy Hawthorne, the movie’s female lead. Unlike veteran explorer Buzz, Izzy’s a newbie at shooting into the stars, as it turns out she’s got a fear of space. The promo also offers glimpses of Taika Waititi’s Mo, Dale Soules as elderly recruit Darby Steel, and Buzz’s feline A.I. companion Sox (Peter Sohn).

‘Doctor Strange 2’ star only saw the movie for the first time last night

‘Doctor Strange 2’ star only saw the movie for the first time last night

The rest of the world might’ve already seen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness at the beginning of the month, but one of the Marvel movie’s secret stars has only just caught up. The Illuminati scene in Sam Raimi’s sorcery-themed sequel featured half a dozen mind-blowing cameos, with arguably the most surprising being the return of the king of the Inhumans himself, Blackagar Boltagon, with Anson Mount reprising his role from ABC’s short-lived Inhumans TV series.

Due to all the cloak and dagger surrounding Mount’s reappearance as Black Bolt, then, he wasn’t invited to the film’s big premiere a few weeks ago — however, it turns out Marvel has finally made it up to him by hosting a special screening for Mount and a bunch of his friends and family this weekend.

Stunt woman shares jaw-dropping concept video for ‘Wonder Woman’

Stunt woman shares jaw-dropping concept video for ‘Wonder Woman’

Samantha Win — an actor, stunt performer, and martial artist — is sharing an incredible concept video for Wonder Woman a year before the film went into production that highlights the importance of the pre-visualization work when it comes to stunt choreography and action direction.

Win portrays Diana Prince in the video, albeit in a cloth tiara and a t-shirt, but totally kicks butt nonetheless. Although Gal Gadot would go on to perform the role in the films Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman, and Justice League, Win nevertheless got to don a “real” tiara when she portrayed the Amazonian Euboea in the 2017 Patty Jenkins-directed film. Win shared the video on Instagram Friday.

‘Star Wars’ deems Kumail Nanjiani officially cooler than his cousin

There are lots of ways to build clout if you’re a Star Wars fan. Memorization of obscure trivia, mastery of cosplay, acquisition of bigger and better toys, are all ways to climb your way to the top of Star Wars Nerd Mountain. But some people, Like Obi-Wan Kenobi star Kumail Nanjiani, really take it to the next level.

In the interest of keeping things spoiler-free, we won’t go into who Nanjiani plays in the new Disney Plus series that just began playing today. We can say that the actor-comedian is sufficiently blown away by the fact that he, as a person who played with Star Wars toys with his family during his childhood in Karachi, Pakistan, is now a co-star of a television show about OG Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi. So much so that he couldn’t help rubbing a relative’s face in it a bit with his recent Twitter post.
