Former X-Men Star Passes On Advice For The MCU’s Cyclops

Marvel Studios is set to relaunch the X-Men franchise within the MCU over the next few years, meaning fans should get ready to meet a recast roster of mutant heroes. Usual leader of the team Scott Summers will likely be among them, but what advice does veteran Cyclops actor James Marsden offer to the next person to don Cyke’s ruby quartz visor?

Well, actually, his advice has everything to do with the X-Man’s snazzy red-tinged headgear. In an interview with Collider to promote Sonic the Hedgehog, Marsden talked about how the biggest challenge of bringing Cyclops to life as an actor is building a three-dimensional character without the use of your eyes. Especially a straight-down-the-line character like Scott.

“The biggest challenge was that, the audience and other actors never being able to see your eyes. Definitely was a handicap in bringing a persona to the character, and an energy to the character. To a character who is also very, by nature, very by-the-books. Kind of a Boy Scout, ‘do the right thing.’ He’s a foil to Wolverine’s character, who is more fly by the seat of his pants, a little more unpredictable, and aggressive.”

When facing this challenge, Marsden urged whoever’s the next Cyclops to tackle the character however they see fit – and to not necessarily prescribe to the comic books in doing so.

“I would just say lean into it. Own it. And carve out your own thing. The fans of the books are going to tell you ‘it needs to be this’. Find a new way to make it interesting. Because it is tough to like get something interesting and cool and different across when no one ever sees your eyes. Which is obviously, you know, the main part of the character.”

Marsden played Scott four times across Fox’s X-Men universe – in the original trilogy and then for a cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past. His successor was Tye Sheridan, who appeared as the younger Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix, as well as a silent cameo in Deadpool 2. It’s likely Marvel will hire an actor somewhere between Sheridan and Marsden’s ages to play their version, but who they may be eyeing, we don’t yet know.

New Fast & Furious 9 Poster Promises Justice For Han

If you’ve been keeping up to date on the news surrounding Fast & Furious 9, then you’ll know just how surprising today has been. A few hours ago, the film’s first trailer finally made its debut, and with it, revealed that fan-favorite Han is in fact alive, despite his apparent death all the way back in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Of course, WGTC first reported on actor Sung Kang’s return a few months back, but up until today, it wasn’t quite clear if he would be appearing in flashbacks, or whether or not the series’ next entry might take place earlier in the ongoing timeline.

Of course, fans are going wild after hearing of his return, and unsurprisingly, there’s been a renewed call for #JusticeForHan. For those who aren’t entirely familiar with the situation, here’s a quick rundown. As we mentioned, Han was supposedly killed during the events of Tokyo Drift, but it was later revealed in Fast & Furious 6 that the man who was responsible for his “death” was none other than Deckard Shaw. This was all fine and well, but fans took issue with how quickly Shaw was folded into and accepted by Dominic Torreto (Vin Diesel) and his street racing crew. And thus, the #JusticeForHan campaign took form.

Since then, the franchise’s creative crew has promised that Shaw’s role in Han’s “death” would be addressed, and it looks like they might finally be delivering on their promise. Earlier today, a new poster for Fast & Furious 9 began making the rounds, and it’s emblazoned with the tagline “Justice Is Coming.” Seeing as how the poster features Han leaning against a car, it’s reasonable to assume that things will be addressed when the film drops later this year on May 22nd.

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Actress Reportedly Eyed For Mad Max Furiosa Prequel

Jodie Comer is red hot right now. Besides starring in Killing Eve, she had a role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (even if it was a very small one), can be seen next opposite Ryan Reynolds in this summer’s Free Guy and today, sources close to WGTC have told us that she’s being considered for the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, to play a young Furiosa. And given that this comes to us from the same sources who said Transformers is being rebooted and Marvel is eyeing Daniel Radcliffe for Moon Knight, both of which we know to be true, we’ve no reason to doubt it.

We don’t have too many details on the project just yet, but it’s hard to believe it’s already been five years since Fury Road was released. A famously difficult shoot, the film powered through it to become an instant classic that’s not only the best action movie of the decade, but also one of the best of the century, too.

And we all had a few questions after seeing it. For instance, why did it take this long for director George Miller to helm another film? How did no one die while making this? And perhaps most important of all, can we get some more Furiosa, the character played by Charlize Theron?

While it says Mad Max on the posters and billboards, Furiosa was the standout in the pic, drawing comparisons to Sigourney Weaver in the Alien franchise. She’s compelling, smart and a badass. Tom Hardy is fine in the titular role, but he does what Tom Hardy often does in movies: mumble and have his face obscured for a large portion of the film.

Furiosa steals the show and Miller knows it. He’s been trying to make a sequel entitled Mad Max: The Wasteland since releasing Fury Road but despite its rave reviews and multiple Oscar nominations and wins, studios are afraid to produce movies of this size that don’t include capes and tights. And Warner Bros. is currently in the business of superheroes.

In regards to Furiosa, it’s unclear whether the Wasteland script is the same story, but we know that the prequel will feature her as a 12-year-old as well as focusing on her in her mid-to-late ‘20s. This is where Comer comes in, and if we really want to see the birth of Furiosa in all her madness and motivation, the actress is a great choice based on her performance in Killing Eve. She’s an edgy hit woman who takes what she wants and becomes quite displeased when she doesn’t get it. And her role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was a complete waste of her talents.

Unfortunately, we don’t yet know when this Mad Max prequel might happen – Miller says he’s making it next, for what it’s worth – but let’s just hope there isn’t another decades-long gap that we’re forced to sit through.

New Mythical Pokémon For Sword And Shield Being Revealed Next Month

The Pokémon Company has something special in store for fans of the franchise next month, it seems.

According to translations provided by folks over at ResetEra, next month’s Pokémon Day celebrations will include the reveal of a brand new mythical creature for Switch games Sword and Shield. The mystery ‘Mon is said to also be the central focus of this year’s next film installment, Pokémon The Movie: Coco, itself scheduled for release on July 10th in Japan. A teaser trailer for the animated flick (which sadly doesn’t include a sneak peek at the new critter in question) can be seen below.

To coincide with the above, a new event for Pokémon Go is also scheduled to take place, with Sword and Shield players having a special Max Raid Battle to look forward to. Whether or not this will be the avenue in which Trainers can expect to catch and add the new mythical Pokémon to their collection remains to be seen, however, as Sword and Shield developer Game Freak still has yet to make a number of Gigantamax forms available in-game. Given what we know of the occasion so far, further details can likely be expected to arrive closer to Pokémon Day on February 27th, so stay tuned on that front.

With any luck, we might even be fortunate enough to learn more details about Sword and Shield‘s upcoming Expansion Pass. Beginning in June with the Isle of Armor and culminating in the fall with Crown Tundra, each add-on represents the first-ever instance of a mainline Pokémon title receiving DLC. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Reportedly Features Alternate Versions Of MCU Heroes

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is, without a doubt, one of the most impressive and lucrative franchises in all of cinematic history. Not to mention that the sheer extent of the many characters and destinations featured throughout the films is staggering.

And with Phase 4 now on the horizon, fans are eagerly awaiting all the upcoming installments headed their way, one of which is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Benedict Cumberbatch is set to reprise his titular role in the continuation of the Doctor Strange saga within the MCU and as the franchise progresses, it seeks to bedazzle its audience with more far-out sci-fi concepts.

It’s evolved from alien encounters to inter-dimensional portals to time travel. And now, the forthcoming sequel will look to explore the multiverse. Although, this isn’t the first time the idea of the multiverse has been touched on in a Marvel movie. While not necessarily an inclusion of the MCU franchise, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) displayed a more narrowly-defined example of it. In the case of the Miles Morales’ story, the multiverse explicitly dealt with Marvel’s web-slinging vigilantes.

While it’s yet unclear how the multiverse aspect will come into play in the next Doctor Strange installment, it has made for some interesting theories. In the comics, for instance, when the multiverse comes up, it’s led to doppelgängers of familiar characters but from other worlds.

With this context in mind, fans have suggested that the MCU could include variants of some of the iconic characters we’ve come to know and love. It could even potentially open the doors for characters who’ve died in the current timeline. And it seems that might just be the plan, as MCU Cosmic claims the following:

“The concept of the Multiverse means there are other alternate realities where there are known MCU characters, but they could be very different. And according to a reliable source, the Doctor Strange sequel will explore that and it sounds like we may see some known MCU characters but in very different ways.”

The multiverse allows for unending possibilities, no doubt, and it’ll be intriguing to see if this means that we might see, say, an alt-Captain America or an alt-Iron Man show up at some point in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As MCU Cosmic notes, it may not be the original actors playing them, but it’d still be a lot of fun to have characters we previously thought were gone from the franchise turn up for a quick appearance. Universal Reportedly Planning To Reboot Jason Bourne Franchise

The Jason Bourne franchise has been a reliable source of high-tech action and espionage for nearly two decades. Matt Damon’s Bourne has become a symbol of no-nonsense action, with the films setting themselves apart from the crowd with real stunt work, staying away from big CGI set pieces and generally keeping both feet firmly planted on the ground when it comes to realism. Since The Bourne Identity hit cinemas back in 2002, the franchise has grossed over $1.6 billion for Universal, but now it seems they’re preparing to hit the reset button and take the series back to basics.

We last saw the character in 2016’s Jason Bourne, though after that Damon said that could be his final appearance in the franchise as audiences “might be done” with the hero. Universal seem to agree, too, as our sources have told us that they’re currently searching for a new actor for a planned reboot.

Details are thin on the ground at this early stage, though we know that the studio intends to introduce a fresh cast of characters and a younger hero in his early thirties. We also know that the Hobbs & Shaw team of writer Drew Pearce and director David Leitch are currently attached. And given that this intel comes to us from the same sources who said Transformers is being rebooted, and Lethal Weapon 5 is moving forward with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, both of which have now been confirmed, we have no reason to doubt it.

The details we’ve been given end there, unfortunately, but one thing that might indicate where they’re heading with this is the Treadstone spinoff series. Though most assumed it was set in the existing universe, the first season only tacitly acknowledged the events of the movies and Bourne himself. So, if they eventually want to move in a new direction, they could use that as a launchpad.

It’s also worth remembering that Universal has already tried a soft reboot of the franchise. 2012’s The Bourne Legacy attempted to establish Jeremy Renner’s black ops agent Aaron Cross as the new protagonist. However, the critical and audience response to it was decidedly lukewarm, and plans for sequels starring Renner were quietly shelved.
