Simu Liu to host 2022 Juno Awards celebrating Canadian music

The last 12 months have been a crazy ride for Simu Liu. The Kim’s Convenience star made his MCU debut last summer in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the second-biggest movie of the year in the U.S., transforming him into a household name. He’s since followed that up with a hosting gig on Saturday Night Live in November, and he’s about to extend his hosting skills by helming the 2022 Juno Awards, the annual ceremony celebrating Canadian music.

Liu will be the one to host the next Juno Awards night when it occurs in May, making him the first actor to have the honor since Star Trek legend William Shatner in 2012. This year will also be the first in-person version of the event since 2019, with the last two happening remotely due to COVID-19. The 32-year-old star — who was born in China before his family moved to Canada when he was five — expressed how much getting this gig means to him in a statement:

What happened to The Tinder Swindler? Where is Simon Leviev now?

Netflix’s latest true-crime potboiler, The Tinder Swindler, just dropped, and it’s already becoming a new obsession. The documentary tells the story of a man who, posing as a diamond mogul and jet-set billionaire, bilked women out of millions and how those women set about trying to bring him to justice. It’s a story of the ultimate catfish, draped in diamonds and furs and flown in on a private jet that left the victims destitute and ruined. As the network teaser states, “You’ll never ‘swipe right’ the same again.”

Shimon Yehuda Hayut, better known by his alias, Simon Leviev, is an Israeli-born conman who used the popular dating app Tinder to seek out and defraud his victims. Hayut managed to scam his Tinder dates out of money using so-called long con tactics, surrounding himself with the trappings of extreme wealth and then asking for money when he was supposedly in a desperate situation. The Tinder Swindler focuses on three of the women he targeted on the app and their painful discovery that he was not the wealthy businessman he pretended to be.

Italian cinema legend Monica Vitti dies at 90

After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, the ‘Queen of Italian Cinema,’ Monica Vitti, has died at the age of 90.
Vitti is best known for her work with Italian auteur Michelangelo Antonioni on his films L’Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), L’Eclisse (1962), and Red Desert (1964).

Despite being the touchstone of her legacy, L’Avventura, opened to a “chorus of boos” from the Cannes Film Festival audience, according to The New York Times. Vitti thought her career was over and left the theater in tears. “A cabal of filmmakers, led by Roberto Rossellini, wrote an impassioned defense of the film, and it went on to win the festival’s Special Jury Prize and to become widely hailed as a cinematic landmark.”

An abject Bruce Willis disaster is one of Netflix’s biggest movies

Proving that we have failed as a society, one of the countless Bruce Willis action thrillers to have been panned by critics is currently one of the ten most-watched titles on Netflix around the world.

‘2 Fast 2 Furious’ star would love to return to the franchise

As the Fast & Furious family keeps getting bigger, it’s becoming harder to find room in the ensemble for everybody’s personal fan favorite, with Dominic Toretto’s close-knit group now more of a small army.

The problem has been rectified in rather unfortunate circumstances by Dwayne Johnson ruling himself out of any more appearances in the mainline Fast Saga as Luke Hobbs, even if he remains committed to the idea of sequel to his chrome-domed Jason Statham spinoff.
