Jim Carrey Rumored To Be Playing Major MCU Villain

Jim Carrey Rumored To Be Playing Major MCU Villain

A new MCU rumor states that Jim Carrey is set to play a major Marvel villain in the future of the franchise. Carey is no stranger to the comic book world, having starred in The Mask and Batman Forever in the 1990s and Kick-Ass 2 back in 2013. Now it looks like he’s following up his recent comeback to the blockbuster world in Sonic the Hedgehog by joining the Marvel Studios family, apparently across multiple projects.

A host of new MCU rumors have been shared online by the moderators of the Marvel Studios subreddit, as supplied to them by an anonymous source. According to them, Carrey has been cast to play none other than MODOK in a variety of Disney Plus series. He may even make his debut as early as 2022’s She-Hulk. The mods note that a different source stated that MODOK also appears in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quatumania, but that information remains unverified.

A Marvel One-Shot Is Among The Most Popular Titles On Disney Plus

A Marvel One-Shot Is Among The Most Popular Titles On Disney Plus

There’s been a lot of talk recently about the potential return of the Marvel One-Shot, which many thought had been cast aside and viewed as obsolete when the Marvel Cinematic Universe began expanding onto television via series of mega budget Disney Plus exclusives.

While six to nine episode TV shows offer much more in terms of scope, scale, spectacle, world-building and content, there’s definitely still a place for the humble One-Shot on the MCU roster. A series of shorts could tie up loose story threads, sow seeds for what’s to come or give fan favorites ten or fifteen minutes in the spotlight, all without breaking the bank.

Army Of The Dead Rockets Up The Netflix Ranks As Prequel Tops The Charts

There was no other outcome than Matthias Schweighöfer’s Army of Thieves topping the Netflix most-watched list as soon as it became available to stream on Friday, with the romantic comedy heist caper winning strong reviews from critics and enthusiastic reactions from subscribers.

It might not be able to trouble its predecessor in terms of overall viewership, with Zack Snyder’s opening salvo becoming one of the platform’s ten most-watched original movies ever, but fans have clearly been double-dipping the Army of the Dead universe this weekend.

October Box Office Delivers Best Month Since January 2020

October Box Office Delivers Best Month Since January 2020

The prognosis was looking very grim for the theatrical industry for a while, with many insiders and analysts wondering if business would ever return to pre-pandemic levels, or if things had been drastically changed forever. While we’re not quite back to the glory days quite yet, there’s plenty of reason to celebrate.

As per Deadline, October has delivered the highest-grossing month domestically since January 2020, although revenue has been driven largely by four titles. Venom: Let There Be Carnage, No Time to Die, Halloween Kills and Dune are responsible for 75% of the $638 million total, but that’s still impressive when you consider the latter two were given simultaneous streaming debuts.

3 Movies Now Within Touching Distance Of Major Box Office Milestones

There hasn’t been a lot for the theatrical industry to celebrate over the last eighteen months, with tens of billions of dollars being lost to the pandemic, but there finally seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

October of 2021 was the biggest month we’ve seen for a long time, and it’s put three Hollywood blockbusters on course to hit some major box office milestones that not that many titles have been lucky enough to reach since the age of COVID-19 began.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Theory Ties Multiversal Villains To Doctor Strange

Spider-Man: No Way Home Theory Ties Multiversal Villains To Doctor Strange

We know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man: No Way Home is going to feature returning villains from both the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb franchises, and the trailer hinted that a spell cast by Doctor Strange to aid Peter Parker going awry is the cause of the multiversal chaos.

As fans pored over every frame from the first trailer, many believed a glimpse of Rhys Ifans’ Lizard could be seen lunging towards Tom Holland’s title hero, in a location that looks very similar to the basement of the Sanctum Santorum, which might be how the Sorcerer Supreme plans to keep the various bad guys on ice once they’ve been defeated.

Jon Favreau Reveals How Transformers Saved One Of Iron Man’s Most Memorable Scenes

Jon Favreau Reveals How Transformers Saved One Of Iron Man’s Most Memorable Scenes

Michael Bay’s Transformers arrived in the summer of 2007, and while the narrative was lacking in almost every regard, the spectacle and visual effects were nigh-on flawless. Giant alien robots turning into vehicles in a series of intricate, complex CGI sequences had never been done before on a blockbuster scale, and it ended up saving a key scene from Iron Man.

As technology advances, it’s gotten easier and easier for the superhero genre to bring fantastical powers to life, but Industrial Light & Magic were struggling with one sequence in particular on Jon Favreau’s Marvel Cinematic Universe launchpad, to the extent that there was talk it would end up being cut from the film altogether.

Anthony Hopkins Almost Quit Acting Before Joining The MCU

Anthony Hopkins Almost Quit Acting Before Joining The MCU

Things could have turned out very differently for the Thor franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe at large and Anthony Hopkins, had the acting legend not ended up landing the role of Odin in Kenneth Branagh’s Asgardian epic.

The veteran star brought his natural gravitas and fatherly warmth to the part, and he fit seamlessly with the Shakespearean trappings that characterized the first installment in the God of Thunder’s solo series. As hard as it sounds to believe, Mel Gibson actually turned down the role before Hopkins was cast, and he’d have definitely made for a much more grizzled Allfather.

Edgar Wright’s breakthrough feature Shaun of the Dead became an instant cult classic when it arrived in 2004, going on to earn a solid $30 million at the box office on a budget of $6 million, before instantly finding a new lease of life on home video.

It’s remained a staple of spooky season ever since, with Simon Pegg even wondering why the movie was trending just a few days ago. As it turns out, the reasons were simple; fans still celebrate the rom-zom-com on an annual basis, which is the least that it deserves.

Dune Leads A Disappointing Weekend At The Box Office

Dune Leads A Disappointing Weekend At The Box Office

Nobody was expecting any fireworks from the box office this weekend when everyone was otherwise occupied readying themselves for Halloween, but a weak frame is still disheartening when theatrical business has been booming all month, with October 2021 tracking just 4% behind pre-pandemic levels.

Denis Villenueve’s Dune easily topped the charts with a second weekend of $15.5 million, pushing the first half of the filmmaker’s two-part epic closer to a worldwide tally of $300 million, as per Deadline. The bad news is that the outlet reports that it was also the most pirated title of the week, so it might not have much legs left with paying customers.

Rob Zombie Celebrates Halloween With New Munsters Art

Rob Zombie Celebrates Halloween With New Munsters Art

Rob Zombie is treating, not tricking, his fans this Halloween with this new artwork highlighting the characters from his upcoming reboot of The Munsters. For the past few months, the horror director has been keeping his social media followers up to date with every development on the film. Just recently, he unveiled our first look at its trio of leads in costume – Sheri Moon Zombie (Lily), Jeff Daniel Phillips (Herman) and Dan Roebuck (Grandpa) – on set of 1313 Mockingbird Lane, which has been faithfully recreated in Budapest, Hungary.

Now, Zombie has followed that up with this official cartoonish artwork depicting the Munsters clan celebrating what must be their favorite night of the year. The filmmaker shared the image on Facebook, writing “HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM THE MUNSTERS!” The art showcases just how close to the original characters Zombie’s versions are, with the only big difference being the addition of Grandpa’s mustache. See what Zombie had to share via the gallery below:

Now that the multiverse is officially in play, it can’t be definitively ruled out that a few familiar faces from Fox’s X-Men mythology could end up returning as part of official Marvel Cinematic Universe canon.

Evan Peters has already made the jump, but his winking recurring role in WandaVision technically wasn’t a direct continuation of the mutant mythology, while Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy have both found themselves linked to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and those Hugh Jackman rumors still aren’t going anywhere.

Marvel Fans Aren’t Exactly Hyped For A New Morbius Trailer

All of the talk surrounding the post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and the impending arrival of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man: No Way Home has rendered Morbius largely obsolete in the eyes of fans, which is a shame for the people who worked so hard on the movie.

The vampiric comic book adaptation was originally scheduled for release in July of 2020, but it suffered greatly from the pandemic-era domino effect, and it’s now coming to theaters just six weeks after No Way Home on January 28, 2022. As the first non-Venom movie in Sony’s shared superhero universe, there’s quite a lot riding on Morbius to succeed, at least when it comes to proving the studio’s ability to deliver hit superhero blockbusters that don’t have a leading man named Tom.

The Book of Boba Fett is in the can, The Mandalorian Season 3 is in production as we speak, while Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor have wrapped shooting. Hayden Christensen recently boarded Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka and The Acolyte is rumored to be getting underway in January, so the Mouse House has plenty of options with which to tantalize us, whether it be casting announcements, release dates, images or footage.

Army Of Thieves Has An Homage To Zack Snyder’s Dawn Of The Dead

Based on nothing but his filmography as a writer, director and producer, Zack Snyder clearly loves zombies and superheroes above all else. Of the 21 movies and two TV shows to his name, including his quartet of in-development Netflix projects, eighteen of them are either comic book adaptations or involve hordes of the undead.

Army of Thieves isn’t a zombie film per se, but it does feature several fever dreams experienced by Matthias Schweighöfer’s Dieter that tie directly to the apocalypse unfolding over in Las Vegas, which he ultimately finds himself in the middle of six years later when Army of the Dead takes place.

Of course, that’ll continue to ebb and flow the closer we get to release this coming Friday, and Marvel Studios are pulling out all of the stops when it comes to the marketing blitz in an effort to ensure that as many people as possible check out the franchise’s 26th installment on the big screen, regardless of what the critics say.

However, one rumor hinted that a well-known actress could be set for a cameo appearance as Gozer, which would tie the hybrid of sequel and reboot directly to the 1984 original. The most recent revolved around rumored character descriptions, which offered that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield would show up wearing Spidey suits very similar to the ones we last saw them in, while Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin will get an upgrade that leans harder into his comic book origins than Sam Raimi’s 2002 effort.

Marvel Advisors Didn’t Want Captain America: The First Avenger To Be A Period Piece

During the buildup to Captain America: The First Avenger, many insiders and analysts were predicting that the movie may struggle to reel in international audiences given its reliance on the United States’ World War II effort, and a star-spangled title hero who acts as the living embodiment of Americana.

To combat this, Marvel Studios and distributor Paramount allowed overseas markets to drop the Captain America prefix if they wanted to, an offer that was gladly taken up by Russia, South Korea and Ukraine. However, it turns out that the comic book company’s own advisors were against the idea of a period piece, and they wanted Kevin Feige to set The First Avengers in the present day.

Spider-Man: No Way Home Can Finally Pay Off Sony’s 7-Year Plan

Spider-Man: No Way Home Can Finally Pay Off Sony’s 7-Year Plan

Spider-Man: No Way Home might be about to finally pay off not one, but two prior Spidey movies. While it hasn’t been officially, officially confirmed as yet, all the signs are pointing to the incoming threequel forming the Sinister Six for the very first time on the big screen. Fans have been waiting forever for half a dozen of Peter Parker’s greatest foes to come together – and Sony has actually teased that the Six was about to unite twice before. Just not quite like this.

2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the first time Sony tried to get the Six off the ground. The movie itself featured three villains – Electro (Jamie Foxx), Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan) and Rhino (Paul Giamatti). The very end of the film then teased the mysterious Gentleman (Michael Massee) uniting those three with Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and new versions of Vulture and Doctor Octopus. But, of course, Sony elected to shut down the series and reboot the Spider-Verse within the MCU after TASM 2 underperformed at the box office.
