Star Wars: The Bad Batch’s Rancor Wasn’t The Same One As In Return Of The Jedi

Star Wars: The Bad Batch’s Rancor Wasn’t The Same One As In Return Of The Jedi

Dry those eyes and put your hankies away, as a Star Wars sob story has just been averted. Episode 5 of The Bad Batch opened with our heroes seeking out an old Jedi informant named Cid, who may be in possession of key information about the whereabouts of Fennec Shand. To get this, they were tasked with recovering Muchi, who they eventually discovered was a young Rancor (and quite cute, in her own way).

The squad was successful, though the ending left some viewers aghast when they realized its implications. The closing moments saw Clone Force 99 deliver Muchi to Bib Fortuna, Jabba the Hutt’s majordomo. It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to put the pieces together and conclude that Muchi is the same Rancor we saw Luke Skywalker heroically kill in Return of the Jedi. Emotions happened, and feels were felt.

But, as it turns out, Muchi and the Return of the Jedi rancor are two completely different creatures. As established by Wookiepedia, the rancor Luke killed was named Pateesa and is male, whereas Muchi is female. According to the canon, Pateesa was given to Jabba as a birthday present by Bib Fortuna around the time of The Phantom Menace and trained to consume those who displeased the crime lord.

Unfortunately, while Muchi wasn’t skewered by Luke, it’s doubtful she lived a rich and fulfilling life. Animal welfare isn’t high on the agenda in Jabba’s Palace (judging by his choice of snack anyway), so she may have died off screen prior to Luke, Han and Leia’s arrival. Still, there’s a small chance that she went on to escape Bib Fortuna and lead a happy existence out in the Tatooine sand. At least that’s what I’m going to keep telling myself.

Let’s hope Star Wars: The Bad Batch drops by to check in on her from time to time.

A Disappointing Ryan Reynolds Movie Hits Disney Plus This Week

A Disappointing Ryan Reynolds Movie Hits Disney Plus This Week

Ryan Reynolds knew long before X-Men Origins: Wolverine was released that the movie had f*cked up Deadpool very badly, so it must have been hugely frustrating for the actor to play the role, having already spent five years trying to get a solo effort off the ground, knowing all along that it was going to be a complete misrepresentation of the comic book fan favorite that would leave audiences pissed.

In the years since, Reynolds has admitted that he only agreed to star in the prequel because he didn’t want anyone else cast as Wade Wilson to potentially jeopardize his chances of getting the Merc with a Mouth his own franchise, but it would be another seven years after the release of Origins that it finally happened.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Ironically, Deadpool earned over twice as much money at the box office as the Hugh Jackman-starring pic to become the highest-grossing R-rated feature ever made, a crown it would lose two years later to its own sequel. And now, Origins is being added as part of the Marvel Legacy Collection on Disney Plus this coming Friday, but if you’ve never seen if before, then you’re best turning it off after the phenomenal opening credits, because it’s all downhill from there.

Hugh Jackman is as reliable as ever in the lead role, and Ryan Reynolds shines before his mouth gets sewn shut, but other than that it’s comfortably one of the weakest installments in Fox’s thirteen-film mutant franchise. X-Men Origins: Wolverine saw the studio’s plans to develop an entire line of prequels abandoned at the first hurdle, and pointed the property in the direction of a full-blown reboot instead, so it did kind of work out eventually in the long run.

She-Hulk Will Reportedly Become One Of The MCU’s Strongest Heroes

She-Hulk Will Reportedly Become One Of The MCU’s Strongest Heroes

We’ve got a lot of burning questions for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s She-Hulk to answer, but so far Kevin Feige has been reluctant to divulge much in the way of specifics, and barely a single set photo has managed to make its way online since shooting got underway back in March.

Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer teased that the project is a half-hour legal comedy, but it hasn’t been outlined whether or not it’ll tell an origin story of sorts for Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters, or if she’ll arrived fully-formed, green and gamma radiated from the second she first appears on our screens, and that’s without even asking how the character will be brought to life. Is it motion capture like Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk? Is it CGI enhancements being used on Maslany’s on-set performance? Or do they go full Lou Ferrigno and get the paint out?

These are answers we no doubt won’t be getting for a while, but we do know that She-Hulk will play a major role in the MCU moving forward after a leaked casting call teased her becoming a member of the Avengers, which means multiple feature film appearances once her Disney Plus series draws to a close.

Not only that, but we’ve now heard from our sources – the same ones who told us the show was in development for streaming long before it was first announced – that She-Hulk will become established as one of the franchise’s strongest heroes, which isn’t a million miles away from her canonical cousin Bruce Banner.

A lawyer with super strength that doesn’t have the Hulk’s anger issues is a formidable foe on paper, and with a big future in store for She-Hulk, it’s only fitting she be given a superior skill set to match.

Vin Diesel Reportedly Wants To Work With Chris Pratt In Jurassic World/Fast & Furious Crossover

Vin Diesel Reportedly Wants To Work With Chris Pratt In Jurassic World/Fast & Furious Crossover

Don’t get us wrong, the idea of a crossover between Fast & Furious and Jurassic World would more than likely be one of the greatest things to ever happen to cinema, opening itself up to such wild possibilities as Vin Diesel and Jeff Goldblum having a discussion about family while trying to outrun a pack of Velociraptors, while Dwayne Johnson punches a T-Rex in the face and Ludacris uses the arched back of a Brontosaurus as a ramp for a sweet jump, but it’s very unlikely to come to fruition.

For such a preposterous mashup to ever occur, both franchises would have to officially declare themselves creatively bankrupt given that they’ve hauled in over $11 billion between them, and there’s much more money to be made apart than together. However, that hasn’t stopped insider Daniel Richtman from claiming that Universal are keen on the idea and the tipster has now gone one step further by saying Vin Diesel wants to reunite with his Guardians of the Galaxy co-star Chris Pratt to make it happen.

“Vin wants him and Chris Pratt to work together [again], possibly in the FnF-JW crossover,” says Richtman.

Fast & Furious 9 has already made well over $200 million internationally after a week in release and Jurassic World: Dominion is virtually guaranteed to join its two immediate predecessors as part of the billion-dollar club, so there’s clearly still a lot of gas left in their respective tanks even if directors Justin Lin and Colin Trevorrow have teased that the finish line might be in sight for each of their brands.

Or, Universal execs could simply opt for the ‘ah, f*ck it’ mentality and just go for it, in which case Fast & Furious vs. Jurassic World, or whatever gloriously stupid title the marketing team would no doubt come up with, should comfortably eat Avatar for breakfast to become the highest-grossing movie in history.
