Marlon Brando Almost Played The Villain In Rambo III

Marlon Brando Almost Played The Villain In Rambo III

Marlon Brando can comfortably be named as one of the greatest actors to have ever graced the screen, not to mention one of the most important and influential, who revolutionized the way talent approached their roles by becoming the first high-profile Hollywood star to embrace Method acting.

His reputation and legacy in the business will endure forever, but we can only imagine what he could have accomplished had he not become so apathetic in the later years of his career. Brando was famous for turning up to set either incredibly late or not at all, while on many occasions he didn’t even bother learning his lines and had people standing just off camera holding cue cards for him to read from.

The Academy Award winner took a break from acting that lasted almost a decade between 1980 and 1989, but right in the middle he could have made his return in the most unexpected of places. Brando was offered the role of Colonel Alexei Zaysen in Rambo III, and even went as far as reading the script and adding his own notes regarding the character, but talks eventually broke down.

The Colonel Zaysen we got in Rambo III was a caricature who existed solely to be taken out by Sylvester Stallone’s title hero, in the most explosive and action packed installment of the entire franchise. While late-stage Brando often ran the risk of going through the motions and causing trouble on set, it would have been fascinating to see him tackle the villain in an 80s shoot-em’-up, if only to watch him acting opposite Stallone, who invited comparisons to the legendary star for his naturalistic and grounded breakout performance in the first Rocky over a decade previously.

DC Fans Want Bridgerton Star As J.J. Abrams’ Superman

DC Fans Want Bridgerton Star As J.J. Abrams’ Superman

It’s only been 48 hours since it was first announced that J.J. Abrams would be rebooting Superman with a script from Ta-Nehisi Coates, but the rampant speculation has almost immediately consigned Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel to the history books, when there’s no indication that his time under the costume is over, and the precedent for him to continue on as the DCEU’s resident Son of Krypton has already been set.

Cavill confirmed a long time ago that he still had one film left on his contract after Justice League, and by all accounts he extended that deal last summer. Not only that, but The Flash is giving us Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as two different versions of Batman in the same movie, while Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight exists in his own pocket of the universe, so there’s no reason why we can’t end up with two Supermen as well.

Until we get confirmation from either the studio or the actor himself, he’s still part of the franchise, but the casting rumors have already started for Abrams’ impending reboot. Michael B. Jordan was instantly installed as the front-runner after he revealed he’d previously talked with Warner Bros. about Superman, while John Boyega has also been mentioned.

Now Bridgerton fans are throwing their weight behind the show’s resident heartthrob Regé-Jean Page to suit up as either Calvin Ellis or Val-Zod, and you can check out some of the reactions below.

Ironically, Page has also been heavily linked with James Bond recently, a role many believe is Cavill’s to lose once No Time to Die is finally released, but given that Abrams’ Superman was only confirmed two days ago, it’ll be a long time before any casting announcements are made.

Dwayne Johnson Reportedly Looking For New Nostalgic Franchise To Revive

Dwayne Johnson Reportedly Looking For New Nostalgic Franchise To Revive

For a man who dubbed himself ‘Franchise Viagra’ and then went on to prove it by lending his name to several properties that instantly experienced a huge jump in box office takings, Dwayne Johnson hasn’t starred in nearly as many sequels as his reputation would have you believe.

In fact, he’s only ever played three characters on more than one occasion, and he’s also never had a multi-film series built entirely around his star power. Johnson boarded The Mummy, Fast & Furious, Journey, G.I. Joe and Jumanji franchises after the first installments, while his big budget star vehicles like Hercules, Rampage, San Andreas and Skyscraper didn’t get sequels, or at least they haven’t yet.

Insider Daniel Richtman is claiming, though, that the 48 year-old wants to revive and feature in another older brand with built-in nostalgia value, similar to how Jumanji morphed from a beloved Robin Williams family film into a $150 million action comedy that raked in close to a billion dollars at the box office.

“The Rock wants to revive and star in other nostalgic franchise like he did with Jumanji he is now searching for the next one,” says Richtman.

Of course, Sony went to Johnson with the idea of Jumanji and not the other way round, with the actor not entering talks to star in the project until April 2016, over four years after it first entered development. Then again, he’s a powerhouse producer in his own right through his Seven Bucks banner, and has more than enough clout to do pretty much whatever he wants at this stage.

That being said, as the hardest worker in the room, there are going to be scheduling conflicts to overcome if Dwayne Johnson wants to add another franchise to his plate. Jungle Cruise and Red Notice might be in the can and awaiting release, but Black Adam shoots soon, while sequels to Jumanji: The Next Level and Hobbs & Shaw are on the cards as well. Not to mention he’s also got comic book adaptation Ball & Chain set up at Netflix with Emily Blunt.

Disney Plus Is Adding 5 New Movies/TV Shows This Week

Disney Plus Is Adding 5 New Movies/TV Shows This Week

The first weekly Disney Plus haul of the new month isn’t one of the biggest, but it’s quality over quantity on this occasion as the Mouse House’s streaming platform’s latest roll-out contains a couple of major originals. Out of the five new arrivals debuting this Friday, March 5th, one of them is the season finale of the internet’s current favorite TV obsession and a much-anticipated Disney animated movie.

For starters, there’s season 2 of National Geographic docuseries Heartland Does, DVM and the sixth episode of Disney Channel show Secrets of Sulphur Springs. Not to mention the latest film inherited from Fox to go up on Disney Plus – Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, the 2006 sequel starring Bill Murray as the lasagna-loving cat, with Breckin Meyer and Jennifer Love Hewitt as the live-action leads. Here’s your handy itemized guide to what’s new on Disney Plus this week:

Raya and the Last Dragon (Disney+ Premier Access)
WandaVision: Season Finale
Disney Secrets of Sulphur Springs, Episode 6
Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties
Heartland Docs, DVM, Season 2

Yes, after two months of endless sitcom weirdness, mind-bending developments and endless fan theories, Marvel’s WandaVision reaches its final episode this Friday. Expect Elizabeth Olsen’s newly christened Scarlet Witch to engage in a witchy battle for the ages against Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) as she fights to keep her family together and protect the town of Westview from SWORD.

Last but not least, your new favorite Disney animation Raya and the Last Dragon lands on D+ this week. Star Wars’ Kelly Marie Tran leads as Disney’s first Southeast Asian princess, the eponymous Raya, who must journey to find the last dragon in existence – the surprisingly goofy Sisu (Awkwafina). Gemma Chan, Sandra Oh and Daniel Dae Kim also feature. Like Mulan before it, Raya is released via the streamer’s Premier Access label, costing an additional $29.99 to purchase.

Let us know if you’ll be checking out Raya and these other titles on Disney Plus this Friday in the comments.

Netflix Added 13 New Movies/TV Shows This Week

Netflix Added 13 New Movies/TV Shows This Week

The last few days of the month typically find the list of new additions to streaming starting to wind down before the cycle begins anew on the first of the next one, and February has been no different. Not that we mind, though, with March shaping up to be one of the most stacked months ever for all of the major platforms when it comes to both original and established content.

There’s only been thirteen new arrivals on Netflix over the last seven days, none of which have managed to make much of a dent in either the most-watched rankings or the public consciousness, but there’s still plenty to keep subscribers occupied, no matter your preferences. We’ve got documentaries, foreign films, action thrillers, anime and comedy, the full list of which you can check out below.

Our Idiot Brother

Sports fans should take a look at Pelé, which documents the life and career of the man many deem to be the greatest soccer player in history, although almost everyone would agree that he’s definitely one of the top five at the very least. The animated Bigfoot Family should keep younger viewers distracted for at least a little while, and Captain Fantastic delivers thought-provoking prestige drama.

In terms of appeal, the two standouts this week are No Escape and Our Idiot Brother. The former offers up the sort of B-tier genre thrills that have always proven popular with Netflix subscribers, especially when it’s a rare thing to see Owen Wilson in an action movie, and the latter gives the beloved Paul Rudd an all too rare chance to take leading man status in a star-studded ensemble comedy. It’s been relatively slim pickings, but there’s still plenty of quality to be found.

Zack Snyder Teases Batman And Deathstroke Teaming Up In Justice League

Zack Snyder Teases Batman And Deathstroke Teaming Up In Justice League

In an alternate universe, The Batman was directed, co-written and executive produced by Ben Affleck, with the actor’s grizzled veteran Dark Knight facing the biggest challenge of his lengthy crimefighting career when he was forced to go up against Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke, in a movie that would lead directly into a spinoff for the comic book villain, helmed by The Raid‘s Gareth Evans.

Of course, the trajectory of the DCEU is completely different from where it was heading prior to the release of Justice League, but Manganiello says he’ll never give up on the idea of headlining his own solo outing as Slade Wilson. So far, the 44 year-old’s entire involvement in the franchise boils down to a brief post-credits appearance in Joss Whedon’s theatrical edition, a far cry from the big plans DC Films originally had in store.

However, Manganiello was one of the few names to be recruited for Zack Snyder’s additional reshoots, and in a new interview the filmmaker teased that Batman and Deathstroke could put their differences to one side in Justice League to fight a common enemy.

“Joe’s character in this movie when we find him, clearly he and Batman have struck some sort of a deal and they have a bit of a partnership. There’s a bigger enemy, I guess. I think that’s the big difference. They’re not locked in mortal combat. They’re actually working together to try to figure out how to make this world work.”

Similar to Jared Leto’s Joker, Deathstroke isn’t expected to play a major role in the Snyder Cut, with the additional footage only amounting to four or five minutes of Justice League‘s four-hour running time. It already looks as though Batman and the Clown Prince of Crime have forged a tenuous alliance in the Knightmare timeline, and it’s looking a lot more likely that Deathstroke will find himself in the same boat. Some fans might not like the idea of the Caped Crusader teaming up with two of his most notorious enemies, but you’d imagine it’ll at least make sense within the context of the movie.
