Jamie Lee Curtis Explains How Halloween Kills Has Gotten Even More Timely

Jamie Lee Curtis Explains How Halloween Kills Has Gotten Even More Timely

One of the hardest COVID-19-related movie delays to swallow for fans has been Halloween Killswhich was pushed back a whole year from this October to next October. It was especially crushing as Blumhouse is hyping the follow-up to its 2018 reboot-quel up as what could be one of the best entries in the 40-year saga. Now, star Jamie Lee Curtis has pointed out how Kills would have been such a timely film for 2020 as it accidentally touches on one of the biggest events of the year.

While speaking on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Curtis talked about something that’s been teased before, that this movie is less about Laurie’s personal trauma and more about the trauma felt by the town of Haddonfield, Illinois as a whole, as Michael Myers’ murdering antics have affected the local citizens at large, not just the Strode family. Curtis explains, then, that Kills is about what happens when a mob mentality takes over.

“[Halloween] 2018 was about Laurie’s trauma, right? It was focused on Laurie Strode, but you know, there are a lot of other people that had the result of Michael Myers in 1978,” Curtis explains. “…Halloween Kills movie is about a mob. So what I will tell you is that what we were seeing around the country of the power of the rage of voices, big groups of people coming together enraged at the set of circumstances, that’s what the movie is. The movie is about a mob. And so it’s very interesting because it takes on what happens when trauma infects an entire community.”

To the actress, this story choice turned out to be eerily prescient of all that went on over this summer with the #BLM movement and the associated rioting and clashing of groups of different ideologies that took place primarily in the States but also in many places around the world. Curtis believes that Kills reflects the societal attitudes that we’ve all seen play out in real life of late.

“We’re seeing it in action and Halloween Kills weirdly enough, dovetailed onto that proceeded it, it was written before that occurred, but then of course, so when you see it, it’s a seething group of people moving through the story as a big angry group, it’s really, really, really intense… because the trauma isn’t just Laurie’s…. And again, I want to remind everybody, it was pre Black Lives Matter movement, and yet the same activity takes over in Halloween Kills.”

It’s not just its unintended social commentary that the movie has going for it, though. Curtis also gave a brief review of her thoughts on David Gordon Green’s second Halloween film and she made clear that she’s a fan: “It’s a masterpiece,” she said. And Curtis has been in enough Halloween flicks to know the different between a good and bad one, so this is a pretty ringing endorsement.

Sadly, we didn’t get to catch Halloween Kills this October, but it’s coming next year instead. Luckily, there are a bevy of other films in the franchise to watch this Halloween night in its place.

Watch: The Dark Knight Battles Machines In Batman Vs. Terminator Fan Trailer

Even though the iconic Terminator franchise remains officially on ice for now, the story of Bruce Wayne is set to continue in 2022 with Matt Reeves’ much-anticipated reboot, The Batman. While all the key ingredients are in place for an exciting return to the dark and seedy criminal underbelly of Gotham’s shadowy streets, some alleged reports of behind the scenes troubles err a little on the negative side, to say the least. Still, if you can’t wait to get your Batman fix, we’ve got a very cool fan-made trailer that may scratch a similar Bat-shaped itch.

You see, much like the terrific Back To The Future 4 and Lord Vader fan videos that dropped recently, we now have a well-made concept teaser that’s been cut and edited by a talented YouTuber. Specifically, thanks must go to Billy Crammer for his impressive skills and as far as fan trailers go, Batman Vs. Terminator is pretty damn awesome.

Clearly, the video is made up of an amalgamation of footage from Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy interlaced with recognizable scenes from the Terminator series, and focuses on a potential showdown between two of cinema’s most beloved heroes (we can all agree that the Arnie in Terminator 2 was a hero, right?). Interestingly, this particular fan-trailer seemingly poses the question of what if T2‘s beloved Schwarzenegger faces off against Christian Bale’s Caped Crusader? Well, from what we can gather, there’d be a ton of entertaining actions sequences and memorable one-liners, that’s what.

Obviously, this is strictly just a very well-constructed fan trailer, so nothing official is currently in the pipeline for a Batman Vs. Terminator movie. But from what we’ve seen here, this YouTuber could be onto something with such a crazy “what if?” idea.

What do you think, though? Would you like to see more Batman Vs. Terminator? Or was watching the video above already a fate worse than death? Hop into your Batmobiles and let us know in the usual place down below!

Hugh Jackman Pays Tribute To Sean Connery

Hugh Jackman Pays Tribute To Sean Connery

2020 somehow managed to get that little bit worse today with the news that the legendary Sean Connery had passed away at the age of 90. The actor had been ill for some time, and had largely retired from public life over the last decade, making very few appearances in person. However, that hasn’t made the loss of a genuine Hollywood heavyweight any less impactful.

Connery will always be best known as the first and still arguably best actor to ever play James Bond, with his debut in 1962’s Dr. No instantly ascending to iconic status and setting his suave and effortlessly charismatic performance as the benchmark for all future successors as 007 to try and match.

Any self-respecting movie fan has done at least one Sean Connery impression in their life, and the Scottish star’s distinctive accent made him one of the most widely quoted actors in history. On top of that, he also won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor thanks to his turn in Brian De Palma’s The Untouchables, ironically for one of the very few movies in his career where he tried to actively disguise his native tongue and failed miserably.

James Bond Sean Connery

Hugh Jackman, who turned down the role of James Bond when the casting process was underway for Casino Royale, paid tributes to one of his heroes on social media, as you can see below.

Connery essentially retired from acting after the experience he had on the set of Stephen Norrington’s disastrous League of Extraordinary Gentlemen back in 2003, and resisted any and all offers to make a comeback. He always did things on his own terms, and leaves behind a lasting legacy that will endure for generations to come.

Watch: Willy’s Wonderland Trailer Teases Nicolas Cage’s Next Insane Adventure

Watch: Willy’s Wonderland Trailer Teases Nicolas Cage’s Next Insane Adventure

For the last decade or so, Nicolas Cage has been one of the most prolific actors in the business, churning out multiple movies on an annual basis. The vast majority of them haven’t been particularly good, though, and the Academy Award winner has largely stuck to generic action thrillers that don’t require him to do very much besides show up and go home with a paycheck.

However, a lightbulb appears to have gone off in the 56 year-old’s head, one that seems to have convinced him to sign on to the most insane sounding projects that come across his desk, and his fans couldn’t be happier. Cage starred in seven entirely forgettable movies last year, but his next four sound like they’ll definitely be worth seeking out based entirely on how crazy they seem.

Next month’s Jiu Jitsu sees him playing a martial arts master battling an extraterrestrial threat, Pig stars the action icon as a mushroom forager whose prize truffle hunting porker goes missing, while he’s currently shooting The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself that gets paid to attend birthday parties to reenact his most famous scenes, but also gets caught up with drug cartels and the CIA for good measure.

Then there’s also Willy’s Wonderland, which sounds so crazy that it has to be required viewing when it arrives next year. The film sees Cage play a janitor stranded in a remote town who spends the night in an abandoned theme park, only to discover that the animatronic animals that inhabit the place have come to life and are trying to kill him.

That sounds like an incredible opportunity for scenery-chewing Cage Rage and the memes that come with it, and with a teaser now out in the open, it shouldn’t be too long until we see a full-length trailer for Willy’s Wonderland.

Watch: New Trailer For Jackie Chan’s Globetrotting Action Movie Vanguard

Watch: New Trailer For Jackie Chan’s Globetrotting Action Movie Vanguard

Jackie Chan may not be as regular a presence in Hollywood as he was a decade or so ago, but the 66 year-old action legend continues to be one of Chinese cinema’s most popular stars and biggest box office draws, with four movies currently in post-production and set for release by the end of 2021.

Having put his body through the wringer for decades in the name of our entertainment and suffering a laundry list of injuries that would put any actor in their prime off the idea of doing their own stunts never mind someone that’s pushing 70, nobody would begrudge Chan if he were to take a step back and focus on smaller, more intimate projects at this stage in his career.

jackie chan vanguard

However, that’s obviously not going to be the case, and this new trailer for Vanguard promises a globetrotting action blockbuster that sees the Rush Hour star doing what he does best, in what looks like a very expensive movie packed with impressive visual effects and no shortage of the intricate stunt work that’s been Chan’s stock in trade since the 1970s.

Vanguard was originally scheduled to hit Chinese theaters in January, but was delayed due to the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic, and while it won’t arrive Stateside until the end of next month, it did finally land on the big screen overseas in September. Unfortunately, though, it performed poorly after only managing to earn $37 million in two weeks, making it one of Chan’s worst local releases in quite some time and leading to serious questions surrounding his continued viability as a reliable draw, especially when he’s also one of the country’s highest-paid actors.

New Silent Hill PS5 Game Reveal Date Reportedly Leaked

New Silent Hill PS5 Game Reveal Date Reportedly Leaked

The long-awaited next chapter in Konami’s beloved Silent Hill franchise still has a chance to be revealed this year, it seems.

For those not aware, rumors concerning a sequel or reboot, of sorts, have been doing the rounds online for several months now, with several parties, including Sony and former Konami employee Hideo Kojima all tipped to be involved in some form or fashion. Sadly, the collective hopes of fans around the world ultimately lead to disappointment back in the summer when Sony, heavily rumored to reveal a new Silent Hill project during its initial PlayStation 5 showcase, had absolutely nothing of the sort to show – not even a teaser.

The current situation, then, is much like before. Konami, reluctant to acknowledge rumors or anything else of the sort, has remained tight-lipped regarding the future of the popular survival horror IP, with the only concrete information available being that various members of the original game’s development team are working on something.

Silent Hill

According to the claims of business analyst Roberto Serrano, however, there’s still one gaming event left in the current calendar year that could – and reportedly will – play host to a special announcement. The rumor, as shared over on Twitter, stipulates that the world premiere of a fresh Silent Hill title will take place at the Game Awards in December and, what’s more will be confirmed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive experience.

The event, presented and produced by video game journalist Geoff Keighley since its inception in 2014, has served as the staging ground for several major revelations in the past, including NetherRealm Studio’s Mortal Kombat 11 back in 2018 and FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Silent Hill almost certainly fits the bill as big enough to wow audiences at this year’s show, then, though it’s worth noting that Serrano provides no source for the leak, so we’d recommend exercising extreme caution.

Whatever the outcome, gamers won’t have to wait long in order to discern the truth for themselves. The Game Awards take place on December 12th as a digital-only event due to Covid-19.

Netflix’s New Horror Film Is Dominating Today

Netflix’s New Horror Film Is Dominating Today

If you’re still looking for a horror movie to watch tonight, then Netflix‘s His House may be a good option. The thriller from Remi Weekes is already doing well with audiences and critics, to the extent that it’s now broken into the top five most popular films on the platform in the United States. What, then, can we attribute His House‘s success to?

Tackling the refugee crisis, Weekes’ picture benefits from a timely story by Toby Venables and Felicity Evans. The plot focuses on Bol (Sope Dirisu) and Rial (Wunmi Mosaku) as a South Sudanese couple forced into a dangerous journey to the UK, one that ends up with them being housed in a London building that holds disturbing secrets. Despite trying to assimilate, Bol has to deal with the ghosts of their past and how they’ve followed them to their new home.

Viewers have been quick to note the creepy atmosphere and jumpy moments in His House, as well as its willingness to tackle controversial issues and foreground a black cast. Indeed, when considered in the context of recent black-led genre work like Get Out and Us, it appears that His House might be another significant hit for Netflix as a home for content that may otherwise not have enjoyed a wide release.

His House

The strong cast also includes Matt Smith in a supporting role, while Mosaku has been involved in this year’s Lovecraft Country, which shares a similar commitment to His House in foregrounding black history and trauma alongside supernatural elements. If His House isn’t to your liking, though, there’s plenty of other Netflix choices for Halloween, including current chart successes such as Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight, and lighter fare like Hubie Halloween and ParaNorman.

Have you had a chance to catch His House on Netflix yet, though? As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments section down below.

Ryan Reynolds Shares New Red Notice BTS Photos As Production Wraps

Ryan Reynolds Shares New Red Notice BTS Photos As Production Wraps

Ryan Reynolds is finally starting to put a dent in those thirteen films he’s got in development, which can only be good news for the Marvel Cinematic Universe fans patiently waiting for Deadpool 3 to start moving forward. The 44 year-old has The Croods: A New Age and Free Guy set for release over the next few weeks, The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is in the can and hitting theaters next summer, while shooting has officially wrapped on Netflix action blockbuster Red Notice.

The mega budget streaming exclusive originally kicked off production at the start of the year, but was forced into a six-month hiatus as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. When shooting resumed, Johnson claimed that Red Notice had implemented the most aggressive health and safety measures in Hollywood, while Reynolds celebrated his return to the set by posting a picture of himself undergoing a COVID-19 test.

With the globetrotting action adventure now officially done with principal photography, the 6 Underground star posted a series of images online while praising the efforts of the cast and crew for getting such a huge project over the finishing line in such difficult circumstances, which you can check out below.

“There haven’t been a lot of movies lately,” said the actor. “I miss them. Yesterday was my final day on #RedNotice. We started this film 10 months ago. We stopped in March with no idea when or if we’d go back. With the help of so many whip-smart health and safety workers, Netflix found a way to get us back to work.”

Reynolds doesn’t have any time to relax, though, and in just a couple of weeks he’ll be back to work on Netflix’s untitled time travel movie that sees him reuniting with his Free Guy director Shawn Levy. Red Notice doesn’t have an official release date as of yet, but with Rawson Marshall Thurber having called it a wrap on his latest collaboration with Dwayne Johnson, the hotly anticipated and star-studded actioner is expected to debut on the world’s biggest streaming service before the end of 2021.
